Speaking of Boo-urns:
[Jen Trynin voice]
"She's also the epitome of a Sunday-through-Wednesday-night folk/acostic-chick-band-wasteland singer-songwriter except that she sings LOUD with one of those opera-style voices complete with trilling vibrato, which she often delivers while loping around the stage, modern-dance style, hitting a tambourine. Otherwise, she plays piano with her legs spread. Her earnest lyrics are chock-full of biblical references concerning topical issues such as The Abuse Of Women In Our World, or how, just maybe, she's actually Jesus Christ 'herself.' She wears sweaters that go down to her shins, doesn't drink or smoke, and as far as I can tell, doesn't laugh. And it's not like I have anything against her being vegan or supporting PETA or not shaving under her arms-- it's just that she talks about it all the time."

I didn't even know Jen Trynin was still around, so this thread has taught me something.

I hate this song before it even starts. Which is a pretty awesome accomplishment for Paula Cole, if you think about it.
There's this "twothreefour" countoff at the beginning. Why is this count-off on the record? Does anyone think there is anything REMOTELY resembling a live situation here? It's a DRUM LOOP. Who has to go "twothreefourPUSH" to start a fucking drum loop? Plus Paula Cole has overdubbed herself like 10,000 times and takes the credit for every single instrument. All those years of training and she can't keep time with herself, a drumloop and a click track??
But here's the REALLY IRRITATING part: At that part of the song there's like this noise as if there are people about. So Paula Cole actually went back and OVERDUBBED a countoff. Who does that?

Four.
That's the number of bars in this song that don't contain Paula Cole's vox. And they are in two separate little drum break before the second and third verses.
It'd be one thing if Paula Cole won't shut up. But what puts this over the top is that she goes back and adds another four or five tracks on top of that so essentially she's singing TWICE (or more) during the whole song. The verses with talking bits are two different tracks-- one with her talking more than singing, one with her singing more than talking. The chorus has her da-doo-doo crap in the background. At the outro, she does they "Yippee-yo, yipee yay" thing, and then there's "ahhs" over the instruments.
And then just because she's so sure 5-6 tracks of Paula Cole vox isn't enough, she goes back and adds that stupid countoff at the beginning. I'm honestly stunned she didn't add a little applause at the end of the song as well. Actually, I guess I'm not. There's no vocals in applause.

btw, the "yippee-yo, yippe-yay" bit is *by far* the most annoying part of this song. You wouldn't think it be possible for one shitty part to stand out amongst so many other shitty parts, especially when the shit all stems from the same source.
"yippee-yo, yippee-yay" is a pretty ridiculous thing to say in a song that takes itself so seriously, but it's the slow buitld to the absolutely torturouis "yippee-yo, yippee-yeahyeahYEAHYEAHYEAH-YAYEEAHYEAY" that puts this over the top.

It's safe to say that I haven't heard this song in eight years.
I would so enjoy keeping it that way.

But it's a song about cowboys, so yippee-yo, yippee-yay is what cowboys say.
