I cannot WAIT to see this. Saw the trailer at the theatre before "The Departed" and was mesmerized.

Yeah, I saw it before The Departed as well. I am such a sucker for movies like this with huge violent battle scenes. I guess I'm just chock full of testosterone.
If I were Tim Allen I'd be grunting right now (and possibly trying to sell whigs an 8ball)

yeah, the preview does look a little good. I'm skeptical about movies that come out in Feb. through April, tho. They tend to be released at that time for a reason (although notable exceptions to this rule abound, including The Matrix, Sin City, and V for Vendetta).

Although I'm also skeptical about the 300 vs. 1 million. Something tells me that's a slight exaggeration. If you're 300 and fighting 50,000 I bet it sure feels like a million. Either way, I'll probably go see it.

Well, according to IMDB, the 300 Spartans could also count on the services of 700 Thespians. I'm not sure how much help they would have been, though.

Interesting. Two of those three were based on comics. 300 is also based on a comic. Hmmmm.....

The teaser from this morning's nytimes.com front page:
“300” is about as violent as “Apocalypto” and twice as stupid, writes A. O. Scott.

Ouch.

I'll be too mesmerized by the visuals to pay attention to the story, at least the first go-round.

Yeah, that's kind of what the entire thing plays like, too.  Saw it last night down at the Waterfront in Pittsburgh.  It was entertaining enough, I suppose.  Funny in parts, creepy in others, and violent as hell.

Oh, and to answer Dan's question about 300 vs. a million...  We're talking 300 Spartan Warriors, who have been trained to fight all their lives- and the way they overcome being out-numbered (and I hope this isn't too spoilery, as it didn't ruin anything for me since Owen explained it in the car on the way to the theater) but they used a bottleneck method so only a certain number of the opposing army could get at them at one time.

The real story (and this shouldn't spoil anything for the movie) is that there were 300 Spartans, but they were supported by thousands of troops from neighboring cities, as well as a small Navy in the sea. The 300 Spartans did indeed hold the pass at Thermopylae via the bottleneck method. They also employed a military stance called the Phalanx, which helped them fight off thousands without suffering signifcant casualties.

Them ancient Greeks was smrat.
