Brunetti in Seattle
Dear friends and comix aficionados,
Take a quick trip to Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery this Friday,
June 8 from 6 to 8 PM and welcome Ivan Brunetti to our fair city.
This multi-talented (and mild-mannered) cartoonist has a lovely new
collection and exciting exhibition, "Misery Loves Comedy," currently
on display. You've seen his hilarious and revealing Schizo comics, as
well as his recent work on the cover of the New Yorker. He'll be
signing books, comics and his exquisite silk screened exhibition
print available in an edition of 50 signed copies for only $20. (See
attached image).
You'll also want to check out a dozen new Fantagraphics titles, our
newly expanded erotic comics section, and a limited-time steep
discount on all hardcover Blab! storybooks by accomplished fine
artists and illustrators including Camille Rose Garcia, Drew
Friedman, Sue Coe and David Sandlin. Fantagraphics Bookstore is open
daily 11:30 to 8:00 PM (Sundays until 5:00 PM) at 1201 S. Vale Street
at Airport Way S. in Seattle's historic Georgetown District. See you
all soon.
Furthermore, if you can't make it to Georgetown on Friday, Brunetti
will be appearing in Olympia on Saturday. This year's Olympia Comics
Festival will take place on Saturday, June 9th. The festival
consists of a Cartoonists Expo and various panels during the day and
a stageshow in the evening.
The Olympia Comics Festival is devoted to the principle of comics as
a unique and powerful art, showcasing some of the greatest
practitioners of the form and to support local and small press
efforts. The Guests of Honor for 2007 are Ivan Brunetti and fellow
Fantagraphics' favorite Ellen Forney.

I LOVE Ivan Brunetti. Schizo was one of my most favorite comic books in college. Although, it kind of needs to be read in smallish doses. But there's a lot to be said for someone who works through his own self-hatred and suicidality so publicly.
