is all kinds of out for the 360 and PC.

gamespot review

"BioShock creates an amazing world that you'll want to explore from top to bottom and a compelling mystery that slowly comes together as you play."

The Good =
Absolutely amazing atmosphere and visual design with the technical prowess to back it all up.
Lots of character customization options to play around with.
Great voice cast really sells the storyline.

The Bad =
Annoying hitches cause the game to freeze for a few seconds at a time, but it only seems to start happening after playing the game for several hours.**
Lack of death penalty keeps things fun, but also keeps things a little too easy.

"...but also keeps things a little too easy."

hmm, i would kick that review up 0.5 if you play on the hard difficulty lvl.  kicking my ass all around and, for once, that's something i'm really enjoying.

Bioshock is the "spiritual successor" to System Shock 2.  kk, that comment may only resonate w/Doug, but just know that you're in for a !@#$%^$ wild ride.  i have not had much time to enjoy digital crack these days (yepper, that hurts to even type), but this game is so totally worth the loss of sleep.  dig it.

**about 6 hours in and have not seen this happen on the 360.  ??

"...can you?"

Is this a first person shooter?

Yeah pretty much an FPS with secondary (albeit necessary) abilities. It has a nice story, and is well thought out.

I was kind of disappointed in the second half since the first half is such an interesting build up, but other than that, I really enjoyed it.

I picked mine up for the 360 since I heard that the PC version not only has evil copy protection, but also another devious Sony rootkit.

I heard that too.  Actually read about it here...

...so I probably won't be picking it up any time soon.

this is for sure one of the coolest games of a great year for videogames, 2007.

this is a pretty spooky game. there were times as i was playing it late at night by myself that i got a little bit scared. and one time i even got up to make sure my front door was locked.

who would have ever thought that ayn rand philosophy would make for great underpinnings of a videogame? we'll definitely see a seqel, as the game ends on a somewhat incomplete note, and (more importantly) it sold so much that you know the producers are smelling a franchise...

BioShock was easily game of the year for me (followed closely by Portal).  The story was completely engaging and told incredibly well (I remember being actually pissed at the big reveal halfway through the game and really wanting to kill the bad guy because I hated him, not just because I was supposed to), the mechanics are perfect for this type of game, and the atmosphere is beautiful.  This was close to the perfect game for me.
