I've been conditioned to the point whenever I hear an annoying song, I immediately think, "That's good torturethon material.  This song suck balls, but the video is, well, you know when you aren't sure if something is sheer brilliance or utter crap?  That's this.

It is, however, pretty NSFW.

I'm the other way around... I like the song, but hate the video.

Although, it makes for a great animated gif file.

I'm surprised at how well put together the new Devo album "Something For Everybody" is. Granted, it really depends upon how much you like Devo, but it really sounds slick.

It's streaming on the Colbert Report site (right hand side of the screen, near the bottom in upcoming guests).

I have to admit, I actually like late 70's and very early 80's era Genesis.  Like Abacab and that era.

I heard the song Abacab on some muzak somewhere and I was digging it...but I liked it back in 87 too.

Lads, I like the both of you a lot, but Genesis? I heard "Mama" on the radio in the car yesterday, very early in the morning. As soon as Collins opened his gate I nearly punched the CD I had sticking out of its hole thingy into its hole thingy a little too solidly. Fortunately the CD survived and went onto dispell the aural stench of that foul band.

It was Pizzicato 5, for the record.

Heh, it was definitely one of my favorite songs from all of last year. But from past posts I can easily say our music collections would not get along very well, so I can't say I'm shocked that you feel that way. But as long as you don't knock the Dead Milkmen I will respectfully agree to disagree with you, sir.

Actually, I like that song quite a bit... or at least I used to.  It's just not a good song for heavy play as it's strength is in it's earnestness and simplicity.  The punch it packs really diminishes if you hear it like 10,000 times and it just becomes boring.

OTOH, you can play Katy Perry's "California Girls" a zillion times and people's opinions won't change on it.  You either like it or don't but it's a song that's meant to be played and played and played.  It's totally superficial, so it can't become more superficial.

An additional problem for the Avett Brothers is that they play them quite frequently (really far too frequently) on Slacker.  And I wake up to Slacker.  It's a Pavlovian thing.  After awhile you associate that song with being woken out of sleep and having to go to work.  And then when I'm at work I usually hear it a couple more times as it is fairly heavy rotation on both KEXP and The Current, which just makes it worse.

I feel the same way about Phoenix.  Good band, but by this point I want to punch someone every time I hear Lisztomania or 1901.

I and Love and You isn't my favorite song on the album, but I think it's a beautiful song.
I *AM* in love (no, really IN LOVE) with the band though, so I can see that I might be a bit biased.

I heard a fucking fantastic cover version of "Groove is in the Heart" on the radio the other day. It sounded like Pete Kember, the Telescopes, Ride and Daisy Hill Puppy Farm had taken seventeen tonnes of acid and whizz before collaborating on it, to give you an idea. I have no clue which band covered the song, but it's brilliant.
