I remember someone telling me a story about the label that The Wrens used to be on in the '90s. Something about how the owner of the label decided to focus all his resources and money into one band instead of having a roster of bands like most labels do. So, The Wrens got dropped. The label owner basically risked everything and put all his eggs into one basket.
That basket was for a band named Creed.
I never doubted this, but realize that I don't have it confirmed. Can anyone else back this up?
I was going to say "Not True," but rva beat me to it. There was a local Cincy band called July for Kings being wooed by Wind Up, or some subsidiary thereof, back around 2000. I think they ended up signing with MCA, and got dropped when it folded. They got compared to Creed a lot.

Thanks for RVA's insight to Creed throughout the day.....it was a great read after work. Glad you made it through to the other side.

Well, I wouldn't call them classy, but when held in comparison with the Limp Bizcuts and Korns, they were. Although, that monkey-eyed guitarist for LB always struck me as being kind of cool despite his associations. And until Creed gets the DJ from House of Pain to add "scratch appeal" to the band, they will always come out ahead.
But, how does one compare crap? Sure, camel crap might not smell as foul as lion crap, but they are both digested remnants of food that will probably make you sick if you ingest it. I did recently learn that because the digestive system of an elephant is so poor, you can actually use its dung to make tea. That tea is especially helpful when nursing a sour stomach.
Note to self: Do NOT visit the Tea Cozy Cottage on next trip back to Ohio....

Good job rva and congrats for accepting my challenge. I still don't care what you or anyone says, that song is just flat our horrible.
If it makes you feel any better, all day at work I was giggling like a little girl thinking of your torture, but for at least an hour, I had that god damn "Love Hurts" song by Nazareth running through my mind. God was on your side for at least an hour (with Jesus and Stapp!)

As my daughter says "Super good job!"
I'm glad you held it together, I know I couldn't have handled listening to Creed for that long.

I noticed last night talking to people that I could no longer say "Yeah." Just look at the spelling. It's a messed-up word.
"Yay-eh? Yeeee? Yaaaa? Yeee-haaah? eeeeeya? " It just doesn't feel natural. And every time I said it, it felt like it came out wrong so I'd be all self-conscious and follow it up with an "ok" or "uh-huh" which made it worse.
Is it "Jeremy" where Eddie Vedder breaks into the "YEAH! Uh-huh-uh! WOO! uh-huh-uhng?" That's what it sounded like.
Also, Pat Benatar's "Heartbreaker" was playing on the radio on my way into work I realized I was rocking out embarrassingly. I noticed this when I stopped at a red light and people were staring. "Heartbreaker" just isn't anywhere near good enough a song for that reaction.
