Monday November 19th, 2007.
Me and Basement Jaxx. I don't know where my head will be, but I'm certain I will be losing my mind.

One of the best videos ever, though.

Market research shows that people love monkeys.

For the record, let it be stated that I decidedly do NOT hate this song going into this task. I sort of picked it because I think it can be very very grating on repeat and I think I can have some fun with it. Not sure what it's going to do to my psyche, but I know I'll never want to hear it again. In fact, when deciding which song it was going to be, I listened to about 3/4 of it and then gave it the green light. Yet... 2-3 days later it was still in my head. Yikes.

I don't think I could listen to it at regular volume- I'd have to turn it down a bit. Cool video- how can you not love monkeys?

Good morning. I thought I should check in on play number 1. 9:15 am on my computer's clock...right on time. I'm very apprehensive and worried about this. This song is probably going to be too repetitive for my own health, but we'll see how this goes.

Time: 10 am.
Head State and Location: Groggy, and definitely on my shoulders.

I'm actually realizing that this repetitive bullsh*t is much MUCH easier to tune out than last years' Death Cab For Cutie. I've already done work today that I'd been dreading doing for a while, and haven't really listened to the track yet. Of course, I didn't get much sleep last night, so maybe I'm focusing on staying awake instead of on the music.

The worst part is, as many people have found, the transition from the end of the song to the beginning. There's nothing smooth about it, as opposed to the rest of the track which is actually composed to sound in synch with itself.

Other random note: there's some bizarre screaming in the middle of the track. Who knew?

I have a strong urge to listen to Tokyo Police Club's "Your English Is Good."

WTF? Why?

A scientific study should be done on the physiological effects listening to the same song over and over and over and over and over has a person.

I would probably actually look forward to listening to this song... at least for an hour or two.

I haven't watched the video yet, excepting the time I saw it when this song came out. Apparently in 2001? That's what iTunes says at least.

Time: 10:30 am
Head State and Location: Getting ahead of myself.

My walls haven't caved in on me yet, and Basement Jaxx (heretofore to be known as BJ) is glad to hear this. They still don't know where my head is at, but at least I've now found myself trapped in the incomprehensible maze. I mean, I know how to be. See, I make it easy on myself, and that's how I roll. What I give is what I get, baby. Oooooh yeah!

Feeling Heady

I'm trying to keep a cool head about this. It's a challenge to keep sane, considering where this is headed. The gap in the middle of the song makes me think they get ahead of themselves, trying to create a decrescendo to put emphasis on their head-banging beat. But it's a tactic that works, so I guess they're head-and-shoulders above the competition. In fact, they may even have been ahead of their time. I mean, when did the monkey thing really take off? Wasn't that until a few years later?

My brain is melting.

Basement Jaxx (heretofore to be known as BJ)

That's because at the end of this experiment you can boast down the pub you had "a couple of hundred BJ's today" isn't it?

Hey CR, I think you should expound upon the way we Americans use "at" at the end of a sentence.

Heh heh...
