OK, this is my song, and I will be partaking in this painful task while many of you are hitting the Black Friday sales.  Black Friday will now and forever have an entirely different meaning to me.

I anticipate a severe adverse reaction.   It will start in your toes, then you'll crinkle your nose.

OK, one of my friends has just challenged me to another song.  $25 for listening to Mambo #5 for 8 hrs.  I honestly don't think that will drive me insane, but I don't know.  What do you all think.

Go for the $$.

Mambo #5... that was some dance hit wasn't it? hey, you know what's a bad idea? Listening to dance hits b/c all they do is repeat the same one beat over and over.

The Colbie Caillat song is much more irritating IMHO, it takes itself way to seriously.

Do you think that Sheryl Crow wishes it was 1995 again, and that she'd thought of it first when she hears Bubbly?  I can totally hear this piece of crap on the same album with All I Wanna Do.

Mambo #5? There's no challenge in that for you. You might as well pick a Depeche song ... or Marc Anthony.  Tongue

heh.  That's pretty funny.  I heard Mambo #5 about a month ago, and immediately thought of the torturethon.

That is the one undeniable permanent scar I carry from having participated.  A song will come on, and I'll think "Could I listen to this for eight hours straight?"

My thought on this was that my mind would tend to gravitate towards listening for all the names.  Such an impulse should be avoided at all costs.  If you can manage to do that, it's pretty much just a horn sample.  Grating, to be sure.  But that riff will work itself into your head for hours whenever you hear it anyway.  It's still not going to be pleasant, but reducing the song to just that element is your only chance.

This reminds me: I considered doing The Nails' "Eighty-Eight Lines About 44 Women" for mine. That way every entry could be about one of the women or something like that. It had potential, but I didn't feel ready to ruin said song.

Listening to Mambo would not be any torture to me.  Bubbly will be, so I'm sticking with that.  I told my challenger I'd be glad for him to lose his bet the following week, if he really doesn't believe I could do it Cheesy

Official Start time:  8:45 am

Times played so far: 7

So I popped in my cassette as soon as I got in my car.  Thankfully, the drive into work was much shorter than normal.  There were 4 plays in the car, and then 2 more walking to my office.  And finally 1 more while I was logging in and getting everything ready for the day.  I've now moved over to playing the CD.

The drive in was not so bad, but that's mainly because I'm still sleepy.  I even caught myself humming to the musical interlude.

I'm not going crazy yet.  I'm sitting here doing mindless work, listening to a mindless song.  It's sort of blending into the background for me.  The oooos in the middle and then the very end of song bring it back to my attention.

The ending is the most irritating to me so far.

And this is not nearly as bad (thus far) as last year's song.  I think since it's a ballad, it's just easier to handle.

So the song starts with this:

"Will you count me in?"

This is grating on me.  It doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the lyrics.  Will I count you in for what?  What happens if I don't want to count you in?  If I count you in, will you promise to stop singing this stupid song...forever???

The other thing that this brings to my mind is this:

One!  one hour down
Two!  two hours down
