Not too bad for a low budget horror movie. It was basically The Running Man with more horror movie and less sci-fi (and without the plot about the winners dying). It was fun even though the acting was sometime less than good.

62. An Inconvenient Truth
A whole lot to digest but the message was certainly inspiring. So many things could be done to reverse and/or slow the damage we're doing I really felt and shared Al's frustration.
Who knew Al Gore could be so witty and engaging? I think my favorite bit was the White House power point slide showing the world being weighed against gold bars.... what the hell is that supposed to mean? "Mmmm.... gold bars." So funny, and just plain freaking sad.

The few extracts I tested from HT's discovered download suggested this needed to be seen on the big screen. I wasn't wrong. An original linear story concept and some terrific visuals drive this breakout hit from director Danny Boyle. Can't say it promotes India as a tourist destination - indeed the exact opposite. The transformation of Bombay into Mumbai is especially prescient given the recent troubles. This film is just going to get bigger and bigger and might even get an Oscar nom or two. It's not about hats either, despite the game show host continuously asking "Who Wants to be a Milliner?"

Movies seen in 2008 (only first time viewings will be posted)
1. LAYER CAKE (1/3/08 - DVD - 4.5 out of 5 - "Fucking females is for poofs.")
2. JUNO (1/5/08 - AMC Kennesaw - 4.5 out of 5 - "I'm going to punch that Bleeker kid in the wiener.")
3. I AM LEGEND (1/5/08 - AMC Kennesaw - 3.5 out of 5 - "Three litttle biirdsss....")
4. STARTING OUT IN THE EVENING (1/6/08 - Tara Cinemas - 5 out of 5 - "You insult me. You insult me.")
5. NATIONAL TREASURE (1/9/08 - DVD - 2.5 out of 5 - The Greg: "This would have been much better if it wasn't Nick Cage. Like, it if was George Clooney instead." Me: "Everything is better with George Clooney.")
6. 27 DRESSES (1/10/08 - Phipps Plaza Sneak Preview - 3 out of 5 - "The bitch said 'Up'! It's up!")
7. NATIONAL TREASURE 2: BOOK OF SECRETS (1/14/08 - AMC Pkwy Point - 2.5 out of 5 - Helen Mirren's ta-tas go on an adventure)
8. CLOVERFIELD (1/18/08 - AMC Pkwy Point - 4 out of 5 - "I'll document this.")
9. EL ORFANATO (1/25/08 - I'd rather not say how/where I watched it - "1..2..3..toca la pared!")
10. LICENSE TO WED (2/8/08 - DVD chosen by out of town guest - 1 out of 5 - Thank God the annoying out of town guest talked over most of the movie. 1 star for Mandy Moore being so cute. That's about it.)
11. THERE WILL BE BLOOD (2/9/08 - AMC Pkwy Point - 2.5 out of 5 - "You are a bastard in a basket!")
12. DEFINITELY, MAYBE (2/15/08 - AMC Pkwy Point - 3 out of 5 - I still haven't decided if Rachel Weisz is prettier than Ryan Reynolds. It's a close fucking call.)
13. SEMI PRO (3/1/08 - AMC Pkwy Point - 3 out of 5 - I would have just given this one a 2 but I saw it with my friend, Gwynne. Seeing ANY Will Ferrell movie with her automatically bumps the rating up by one star.)
14. WAITRESS (3/5/08 - DVD at home - 3.5 out of 5 - "I'll have a slice of that Bad Baby Pie...")
15. BRICK (3/16/08 - DVD at home - .5 out of 5 - I hated this movie and that hurts me. I *love* JGL and everything I had read about this movie screamed that it was made for me. But, I reluctantly watched some of it, fell asleep, fast forwarded through the rest and then just sighed. BOO.)
16. CROUPIER (3/28/08 - DVD - 2 out of 5 - I probably would have liked this much more if I had seen it 10 years ago when it first came out. But, it really didn't do much for me at this point. Nothing terribly fresh about the story and I didn't give 2 shits about any of the characters.)
17. THE BANK JOB (3/29/08 - AMC Pkwy Point - 2.5 out of 5 - not enough HEIST excitement & there was too much going on to really make the movie feel completely fleshed out. But, I've been laughing about "mutton dagger" for 3 days now. So, there's that & Jason Statham's pretty face. For a change, he was more Handsome Rob than Transporter in this one.)
18. Tyler Perry's WHY DID I GET MARRIED (4/5/08 - DVD - 3.25 out of 5 - loved all the grown-folk drama, even when it got WAAAAAY to over the top. Also disliked it for how over the top it got in parts. Jill Scott was especially great.)
19. AKEELAH & THE BEE (4/6/08 - DVD - 4.5 out of 5 - "I have 50,000 coaches." - I loved this movie SO much - great performances from Larry Fishburne and the little girl. Would have given it 5 out of 5 if the Angela Bassett character had been better.
20. DAN IN REAL LIFE (4/12/08 - DVD - 4 out of 5 - "You are a murderer of LOVE!")
21. SHOOT EM UP (4/19/08 - DVD - 0 out of 5 - I didn't finish watching 1/2 of this turd. It wasn't over-the-top in a fun way. It was completely sexist in a revolting way and I HAD to turn it off. I watched it for about 10 more minutes than The Greg.)
22. FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL (4/20/08 - AMC Pkwy Point - 3.5 ouf of 5 - "DIE! DIE! I caaan't.")
23. IRON MAN (5/3/08 - AMC Barrett Commons 24 - 4 out of 5 - Great summer blockbuster! Nearly flawless except for a few scenes that ran a little too long and the romantic tension with PP. The first 45 minutes or so had me 100% hooked! CGI was amazing - some of the best I've ever seen. Oh and Robert Downey Jr. is still the man. I didn't know what to expect from him going into this, but BOY was I happy with his performance. Cad. Such a cad.)
24. LARS AND THE REAL GIRL (5/4/08 - DVD - 3 out of 5 - "I have a visitor.")
25. HAROLD & KUMAR GO TO GUANTANAMO BAY (5/6/08 - AMC Pkwy Point - 1 out of 5 - "Keep your eyes on the road, Neil!!!!" - SUPER DISAPPONTMENT!!!!!!)
26. I COULD NEVER BE YOUR WOMAN (5/9/08 - DVD - 3 out of 5 - "Isn't it moronic, dontcha think?")
27. MADE OF HONOR (5/10/08 - AMC Pkwy Point - 2.75 out of 5 - "What's a coffee collar?")
28. HELLBOY (5/13/08 - DVD - 4 out of 5 - "If I had legs, I'd kick your ass.")
29. CLICK (5/18/08 - Encore - 3 out of 5 - "You gotta teach me that quarter trick." Holy crap! Did I just tear up at the end of an Adam Sandler movie!?!?!?)
30. THE GREAT NEW WONDERFUL (5/22/08 - DVD - 3.5 out of 5 - I really liked this film that takes a look at the lives of several different people living in NYC in September 2002.)
31. SEX AND THE CITY (6/1/08 - AMC Pkwy Point - 4.25 out of 5 - "Distant? You're still inside me!" - I loved this movie and couldn't have asked for much more as a fan of the show. The friendship. The fashion. The eye candy. LURVED IT and saw it with 4 of my best girl friends at 10:30 in the morning on a Sunday. Hello, Church of Samantha!)
32. ROCKET SCIENCE (6/6/08 - DVD - 3 out of 5 - "Do you think she wears a bra? Have you seen a bra?" The kid across the street made the movie for me.)
33. KUNG FU PANDA (6/15/08 -AMC Pkwy Point - 5 out of 5 - "There is no charge for awesomeness... or attractiveness." I don't think I could have liked this any more. ALL of the fight scenes were amazing. Training was beyond fun to watch. Jack Black as a fat panda was AWESOME. Very cool movie.)
34. WANTED (6/28/08 - AMC Pkwy Point - 4 out of 5 - "...or you can kill this mother fucker..." - Hearing Morgan Freeman say lines that HAD to have been written for Sam Jackson was a lot of fun. Jolie was good, McAvoy was nearly great (flip-flopped on the accent). The action and special effects were out of this world good! Amazing but not TOTALLY hitting you over the head like "HEY - I'm a special effect! Time to ooooh and aaaaaah!" Loved it.)
35. SPARTAN (6/29/08 - DVD - 3.5 out of 5 - "Where's the girl?" Loved this for the first 3/4 and then it just felt limp after that with the exception of Kristen Bell's performance. Kilmer was a joy to watch. Love anything with Derek Luke. A Mamet film without Ms. Pidgeon? Wow.)
36. WALL-E (07/04/08 - AMC Pkwy Point - 5 out of 5 - Love love love!!! I totally agree with Butter. The love story is so key here. It's amazing. My heart was nearly broken at the end of the film. I can't say for certain that I totally buy into the ending, but the alternative really would have left me a bit too destroyed after a kid's film. Oh...and PRESTO! was beyond amazing. I want my board name to be ALEC AZAM!!!!!)
37. THE NANNY DIARIES (07/05/08 - DVD - 2.5 out of 5 - I loved the book but thought the movie was just OK. However, I bumped up my rating by .5 for Laura Linney's great performance as Mrs. X but took it back because of Giamatti's casting/performance. ALL WRONG.)
38. HELLBOY II (07/12/08 - AMC PKWY POINT - 3 out of 5 - "I'm not a baby. I'm a tumor." Visually stunning, but wasn't quite as snappy as the 1st film. Needed more HELLBOY snarkiness.)
39. BE KIND REWIND (07/16/08 - DVD - 3 out of 5 - "Come on, Balls." Lots of fun and it kept Greg's interest (rare). But, I think I wanted more whimsy or something. I enjoyed all of the movie-making moments but the rest fell flat for me.)
40. THE HAMMER (07/24/08 - DVD - 3.5 out of 5 - "Who hangs a heavy bag with toggle bolts?" - This was sweet, funny and had some great jump roping scenes. LOVED it for the most part. Yay for Adam Corolla!)
41. THE DARK KNIGHT (7/25/08 - AMC Pkwy Point - 4 out of 5 - Loved this movie, but almost too much was going on. Or I just wasn't in the mood to focus. Plus, Bale's growl really started to get on my nerves. But, Ledger was beyond brilliant. CRAVED him to be in every scene. But, he was peppered in JUST enough to be 100% effective.)
42. DEJA VU (7/27/08 - DVD - 3 out of 5 - saw how this was going to end from a mile away. But, still enjoyed the ride. Glad I didn't see it in the theatre, though.)
43. THE FACULTY (7/31/08 - Encore! - 4 out of 5 - " I always thought the only alien in this high school was me." - I can't believe I never saw this. I wasn't really expecting to like it but it was perfectly fun and scary and cool. BTW, who ISN'T in this movie!??!? Jeebus. Plus, it's now 10 YEARS OLD!!! Double-Jeebus.)
44. STEP-BROTHERS (8/2/08 - AMC Parkway Point - 1 out of 5 - "What the fuckity fuck!" - Exactly, Mary Steenbergen. EXACTLY! Only saw this because our STL friends were in town and we all love Will Ferrell. We knew it looked terrible, but it was too hot to do anything outside. I think we would have been better off playing outside till we got sunstroke. It had a COUPLE of hilarious moments. But, over all, it was TERRIBLE!)
45. OCEAN'S THIRTEEN (8/3/08 - DVD - 2 out of 5 - "Viva la Revolucion!" - The only things to save this film from scoring as low as STEP-BROTHERS was Clooney in a tux and all of Casey Affleck's Mexico scenes. Everything else was crap, crap, crap! Jeez.)
46. AMERICAN TEEN (8/7/08 - sneak preview at Tara Cinemas - 2 out of 5 - "Hot Tub, Schmot Tub. I'm trying not to throw up." - There were VERY few moments about this movie that felt real. Nearly everything felt forced. Like, to the point where I started to wonder if the entire town of Warsaw, IN was trying to punk the rest of the country or something. Plus, The Bitch of the movie makes light of my awesome college. So, MEH. The "High School Confidential" series on Oxygen or WE was about 20x better than this movie. I had a few laughs and I did find myself really enjoying all the high school basketball stuff. But, I couldn't recommend to anyone other than a 15 year old who is desperate to find a new rental.)
47. LOST BOYS: THE TRIBE (8/9/08 - straight to DVD - 2.5 out of 5 - "But ALL will try to take you with them." - not NEARLY as bad as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong...it wasn't great. But, it was a little better than expected. Nice little nods to the original, including some CLASSIC lines. Feldman was quite bad...but, good in that "ITSFREAKINCOREYFELDMAN" way. If you are a hardcore, super-duper fan of the original, it's worth the rental. Just cos.)
48. PINEAPPLE EXPRESS (08/16/08 - AMC Rivercrest South Side, Chicago - 2.5 out of 5 - Loved all the scenes with Rogen and Franco together. Gary Cole was SERIOUSLY underused. The plot was horrible. I couldn't tell if I was supposed to take all the action/fighting seriously or not. The punches seemed real but Rogen doing a bit of wire-fu was just hilarious. I'll assume that since he wrote the film, he was like, "I'm fucking coming in on a wire, Dudes. I don't care." Should have just focused more on the stoner aspect and skipped Rosie Perez running around as a bad cop. Definitely had it's moments, but I wish it could have been better.)
49. 21 (08/17/08 - DVD - 3 out of 5 - met my expectations. Didn't disappoint. Wasn't great, but it was good enough for an end of the day rental when you just want to watch something and drink a few beers with friends.)
50. WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS (08/28/08 - DVD - 2.5 out of 5 - It was everything I thought it was going to be with a dash here and there of humor worthy of a true, hearty laugh. Definitely not great and not even worth seeing again. But, it was good for a last minute rental when I got a call from my friend that she had some down time once her son was asleep. But, this sucks that this was #50. I should have planned better and picked a special movie to be #50. Oh well.)
51. BURN AFTER READING (09/04/08 - Sneak preview @ AMC Pkwy Point - 4 out of 5 - "Is this Oswald Cox?" - Pitch-perfect dark comedy from the Coen brothers. I think if I saw it again, the characters would grow on me even more and bump up the rating. But, as it stands after the first viewing, I am very happy to recommend this one to fans of the Coens' dark comedy films. Great performances, super-foul language and lots and lots of laughs.)
52. THE HOUSE BUNNY (09/07/08 - AMC Pkwy Point - 2.5 out of 5 - "Girls of the Midwest. Girls with GEDs. Girls of Charlie Sheen." - totally dumb and fun movie that was surprisingly released by HAPPYMADISON productions.)
53. BABY MAMA (09/19/08 - DVD - 3 out of 5 - it's Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, Y'all. How am I NOT going to like it, right? I didn't love it, but the tone did surprise me. I thought from the trailers that it was going to be completely white-trashy. But, I should have given those fine ladies more credit. Didn't LOVE it and probably won't see it again, but it was better than average and Greg Kinnear was perfect.)
54. SNOW ANGELS (10/03/08 - DVD - 2 out of 5 - LOVED the young love bit. The rest was all MAJOR bullshit and made me angry. GRRRRRRRR!)
55. NICK & NORAH'S INFINITE PLAYLIST (10/04/08 - Regal Atlantic Station - 4.5 out of 5 - I adored pretty much everything about this movie. Except for the gum. I want some fairy gay mothers!!!!)
56. THE THIN MAN (10/5/08 - TMC - 3.5 out of 5 - The murder-mystery bit did nothing for me but I am in love with this booze-swillin'-face-makin'-dog-lovin' couple of kooks. I've had this movie sitting on my Tivo for months but finally got around to watching it after reading so many mentions of it in the NICK & NORAH reviews. I've already set up the Tivo to record the sequel.)
57. VANTAGE POINT (10/10/08 - DVD - 0 out of 5 - HUGE, STINKING TURD TO NOWHERE.)
58. MIRACLE AT ST. ANNA (10/12/08 - AMC Pkwy Point - 4 out of 5 - this movie had some serious flaws, but I loved the story and I was really moved by a lot of moments in the film. Lots of tears and people clapped at the end.)
59. THE DUCHESS (10/25/08 - AMC Pkwy Point w/my mom - 3 out of 5 - liked this much more than I thought that I would. Very well acted and amazing sets and costumes. I felt a real emotional connection with the main character but the movie over-all didn't really go any where and it was pretty depressing. One hot girl/girl scene, though...if you're keeping an eye out for those.)
60. HONEYDRIPPER (10/26/08 - DVD - 3 out of 5 - much like THE DUCHESS, I enjoyed this one for costumes, sets and acting. Pretty predictable, but enjoyable. Not a favorite from John Sayles but I was glad I saw it.)
61. ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO (10/31/08 - AMC Pkwy Point - 3.5 out of 5 - "Don't you ever say 'shit-covered' to me again." I laughed my ass off and had a great time watching this one. It definitely could have been better and I had to just go with the whole idea of the movie, but I still enjoyed it. Peeved that Kevin Smith didn't have his usual round of hilarious THANK YOUS in the credits, but I was pleased with the "bonus" footage that popped up half-way through the credit reel.)
62. RUN, FATBOY, RUN (11/07/08 - DVD - 3.5 out of 5 - "He runs marathons." "Why?" - lots of laughs, mostly for Simon Pegg's best friend in the film. Totally predictable, but a lot of fun.)
63. WHEN WILL I BE LOVED (11/08/08 - IFC - .5 out of 5 - this movie was bad, bad, bad, bad. But, I watched it all the way through because it was short - at around 70 minutes - and Neve Campbell got her freak on with 1) a shower head, 2) a hot blonde chick, 3) her boyfriend in the film and 4) some old pervy dude with an indecent proposal.)
64. PRIDE & GLORY (11/09/08 - 2.5 out of 5 - so very EH. I really wanted to like the movie, but the ending made me very much NOT like it.)
65. ROLE MODELS (11/15/08 - AMC Parkway Point - 5 out of 5 - there was NOTHING that I didn't love about this movie. Awesdome, awesome.)
66. THE VISITOR (11/24/08 - DVD - 5 out of 5 - "I'll keep my pants on." - Wonderful movie with amazing performances and a heart-wrenching story. Perfection.)
67. GRAY MATTERS (11/26/08 - Encore - 1 out of 5 - one star for seeing Bridget Moynahan in her undercrackers and for her chemistry with Tom Cavanaugh! The rest of this movie, starring Heather Graham was dumb dumb dumb.)
68. QUANTUM OF SOLACE (11/29/08 - AMC PKWY POINT W/ELLA MINNOW PEA!!!! - 2 out of 5 - I didn't realize that I needed to watch CASINO ROYALE again in order to understand what the crap was going on in 3/4 of this movie. I enjoyed the action sequences at the beginning but I felt like I walked into the movie in the middle and never caught up to the "plot". Daniel Craig looks good in anything he wears though.)
69. BOLT (11/30/08 - AMC Pkwy Point - 4 out of 5 - this movie didn't try to be funny (except for all the pigeons which I thought were hilarious), but it was very touching. Imagine that! I loved a movie about a rescue dog!)
70. THE JANE AUSTEN BOOK CLUB (11/30/08 - DVD - 1 out of 5 - Nothing about this movie struck me as memorable or worth recommending. Except for Hugh Darcy and the hot dude who played the high school boy. I'm feeling a bit pervy about giving points to a movie for hottness or nekkidness. But, feeling pervy isn't stopping me from doing it.)
71. THE LONGSHOTS (12/05/08 - DVD - 2.5 out of 5 - I love uplifting sports movies but this fell pretty flat for me. Nothing extraordinary - except that I think Fred Durst was the director!?!?!?!? REALLY!?!?!?!??!)
72. HOWL'S MOVING CASTLE (12/06/08 - DVD - 4 out of 5 - Loved this but not as much as SPIRITED AWAY which was beyond amazing. I want my own jumping scarecrow.)
73. STREET KINGS (12/14/08 - DVD - 1 out of 5 - I can't believe this piece of crap was based on a James Ellroy novel and that he actually had a hand in the screenplay. I'm guessing the director must have really effed this one up or something. It was pretty terrible. Everyone seemed like a straight up caricature of a real person. Nothing felt real - AT ALL. BAD BAD BAD.)
74. THE NOTORIOUS BETTIE PAGE (12/18/08 - DVD - 3 out 5 - "I believe in Jesus." - So, from a purely girly aspect, I loved all the costume changes and photo shoots and silliness on set. Who knew that Gretchen Mol was so freakin' hot? GOOD GOD. I loved learning about the pin up photo clubs and the whole Klaw set-up was very interesting. But, something about the focus of the movie during the obsenity trials really just threw the film out of whack for me. Still, very interesting and 2 thumbs way up for the hotchie-motchie factor! AWWWWOOOOGA!!!!)
75. REIGN OVER ME (12/28/08 - Encore - 3 out of 5 - I didn't hate this like I thought that I would. I mostly focused on the Don Cheadle character and Adam's was more of a secondary character for me. Hated the Saffron Burrows character and didn't really see her place in the film at all. BLECH. But, I loved all the songs and how they went from Sandler's headphones to scoring the film. Loved the scooter scenese in NYC. And yes...I cried.)
76. INTO THE WILD (12/28/08 - DVD - 5 out of 5 - I put off this film for so long, thinking that there was no point in seeing it because I knew how it ended and I didn't want to be depressed. Plus, I thought Emile's character would get obnoxious and/or pretentious. But, this film is definitely more about Alexander Supertramp's journey. Loved the score, the narration, the letters to Wayne, Catherine Keener, the Magic Bus, the Moose and ALL OF IT. Great film.)
77. LEATHERHEADS (12/29/08 - DVD - 2 out of 5 - not nearly as funny as I thought it would be. Hated the focus on the Bullet's war record. Not the movie that I thought it would be. Bleh. Sorry, George.)

63. Bigger, Stronger, Faster*
Interesting but far too long. Sad to learn that the older brother (the filmmaker's two brother's were the main subjects of the film) died recently. If you watch the deleted scenes they even show him getting a heart scan and being told that it was coming if he didn't change his ways. Vanity sucks.

The Cat in the Hat
(TV) 1 of 5 - Um, it was colorful?
46.
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
(theater) 3.5 of 5 - Brad Pitt is just a beautiful man.
I blame TV shows on DVD preventing me from reaching 50. Admittedly, if I counted movies I rewatched, I would have made it. WALL-E, Life of Brian, It's a Wonderful Life, and Role Models (all since Thanksgiving) would do it.

Okay, this one's gotten a shitload of hype, but I'm not sure it's 100% deserved. Don't get me wrong, it was a good movie, but, personal opinion, it doesn't quite live up to the fervor. I mean, the performances are good enough, and the story is mostly what you'd expect, but I'm really not seeing where all the praise is coming from. The plot, story and resolution are really straightforward. There's not a lot here to make this stand out. I think it being a Darren Aronofsky joint is earning it a little extra love.
I probably would have rated this a half-point or a point higher if I hadn't had such high expectations, which is wrong maybe, but it is what it is.
My last flick of '08. Didn't make it to 50 again. Ah, well. There's always next (this) year...

It's true. My brother-in-law had the same thoughts as you so he bought it for me for xmas. It took me a while to realize it's just a bunch of comedy sketches and not a movie with an actual plot (well...Fistful of Yen, I guess)...but once I accepted it for what it is I thought it pretty funny. I do love terrible puns and inanities (I'm wearing no pants...film at 11) so that was fun. I think I'll learn to love it with repeated viewings.

1st movie we watched via our XBox 360's Netflix instant streaming feature. Our first time with Netflix as well. Worked pretty smoothly all things considered. But it would definitely be better if we got an XBox 360 remote instead of using the controller. That was a bit awkward. Movie was good, -1.5 points for being dubbed. I didn't even realize they still dubbed movies into English. If I had gotten the DVD, I could've gotten through that, so it's my own fault.
Watched that last movie on December 28th, so I made it.
