Vampire Weekend think of themselves as a punk group? That's a load of bollocks.

I like Vampire Weekend, but they are about as punk as Belle & Sebastian.

Our intrepid reporter, JR, asked me to copy the following across to this thread............

Quote
Well I rented a laptop and it worked fine last night, but it officially died today. So now I have to comb Austin first thing tomorrow morning to rent a new one. The company in Seattle offered to send me a new one by Friday, but instead will pay for this new one. So I'm a little bitter. ALL of the music I was planning to go see tomorrow is stored on the web and this G D computer in the lobby office doesn't allow web access....only email.  There was a VIP pre party to attend tonight, but I forgot the damn card in Seattle and my dense memory can't remember the venue. I'd be better off walking around Austin asking if anyone has seen my baseball. I usually don't travel well anyhow, but I've also worked up a case of nausea and a headache.

I did meet some rather interesting folks during the travel today. They ranged from San Fran to Edmonton to The Netherlands. I haven't heard a note of music yet and I've given away about 10 R'ville stickers so far. I played a game of Frogger by dashing across a major highway to go grocery shopping at a ........Walmart. Yes, I have sold my soul for food   Sad

I've mostly seen Austin in the dark so far, but everything DOES seem bigger. Just lots of open space everywhere so far, and most vehicles I've seen have been big trucks and SUV's. The weather is nice and warm (calling for 88 on Friday!) and things are pretty calm for the most part.

Meeting Woxy folks tomorrow, going to a few workshops and the music starts tomorrow night! Hopefully the computer issues will all be solved quickly tomorrow and I can get moving. I'm obviously a little ticked off tonight, so I think I'm going to call it an early night and charge up the batteries pretty good for tomorrow. Thinking positive thoughts and I know things will work out tomorrow. Hey, I'm on vacation!

I can't read yet if anyone has come up with bands for me to check out yet, but let em rip!

Tell him to go check out Cut Copy at the Modular showcase. Might be cool.

Sorry to hear about your laptop disaster - hope you get a new rental worked out.

Wednesday:  I'd say the Domino showcase stands out.  I'd check out the early Simian Mobile Disco DJ set for sure.  Then maybe head over to see the last part of the KCRW showcase with The Ting Tings and Duke Spirit.

Thursday night:  The Clash Magazine show (at Friends on 6th) looks good with a lot of UK acts (including Mick Jones' Carbon/Silicon and The Pigeon Detectives).

This is the link folks can use to navigate and see who is playing. Come on, I need more requests than that!!!

I'm finally online now and ready to jump in. Looks like I might not catch any conference panels at all today, but I'm going to try. Got a few cool pics from the San Fran airport of all places, but I'll post those later.

See ya when I see ya,
