Can't say this was an actress on my Batman radar screen ... but (if true) I'd love to see it. She was fantastic in Silkwood, Tea with Mussolini, Moonstruck, and Mask (imho).

Cher ... the Next Catwoman?

Cher is reportedly in talks to play Catwoman in the next Batman movie.

At 62, the Oscar-winner would be the oldest actress to fill the catsuit, following Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry.

But the new Catwoman, "will be the absolute opposite of Michelle Pfieffer and Halle Berry's purring creations," a studio exec tells Britain's Telegraph newspaper.

Cher is reportedly director Christopher Nolan's top choice to play the role.

The third Batman installment, "The Caped Crusader," is due to begin filming next year. Johnny Depp has reportedly been approached to play The Riddler.

Reps for Cher and Nolan did not return our requests for comment.

I'll reserve judgment, but say that isn't the most inspired choice for Catwoman.

I kind of like it because it's so totally from out of nowhere. And she's a much better actress than singer (imho). I'd love to see her completely defy expectations and bring something to the role that's just like, "Where did THAT come from? I never knew she had THAT performance in her!" There are so few interesting roles for actresses her age. It'd be cool to see her prove people wrong. Plus, they could cast Chastity as the Penguin.

Are you kidding?  I'd say it's right up his alley, he did Willy Wonka for Christ's sake.

And as for the thought of Cher playing catwoman I say: no thanks.

That Cher story is pretty much from a tabloid mag, from what I understand.  I wouldn't pay attention to it.

When was the last time you saw him as part of an ensemble cast, or in a non-starring role, though? He's typically the marquee guy, which is why I don't think he'd take it.

I'd say he at least shared the staring role in Sweeney Todd.  From what I understand though Ledger is the star of the new film, I don't see why Depp as the Riddler couldn't be as well.

Sure, as long as you didn't look at the pay stubs from the film.

But, I think Depp can easily be part of an ensemble cast. I don't think he has the kind of ego that would keep him from fleshing out an interesting character just because he would play "second fiddle" to a guy in a cape.

There's a rumor going around that Michael Caine told some people that 1) they're doing a 3rd batman movie and 2) Johnny Depp will be the Riddler and Phillip Seymour Hoffman will be the Penguin.

If it's true, what are your thoughts?

Well, I said it earlier but I think Depp would make a great Riddler.  If he plays it with half of the creepy cartooniness that he did Willy Wonka it should be a great role for him.

On the other hand, I don't see Phillip Seymour Hoffman as the Penguin... that's just out of left field to me.

I don't know, I like him so I want to say that I think he can do it. But I'd have to see it to really say "he can totally do it".
