Fringe

I'm going to go ahead and start Fringe it's own thread.
It is pretty X-files-ish, but not completly.
Part of the dynamic of the X Files was the skeptic vs the believer. With the opener at least, both ...(is it bad I can't remember the name of either lead?) seemed pretty open to whatever. Josh Jackson was a little skeptical 'til he had an off screen talk with his nutso/genius dad.
The conspiracy stuff with the corporation was good. I like that it's a corporation instead of the government in this. It's more interesting. It followed nicely with what the one dark haired agent said about the FBI types being obsolete in this corporate age.
The stuff with the bf having the change of heart or whatever at the end struck me as kind of weird. He was trying to run her off the road, why try to tell her the big reveal? Was he good or bad? How the HELL did she not think of the whole "communicating with a cadavar" thing that Walter mentioned earlier. Duh.
All in all though, I think it has a lot of potential. I'm also hoping for some Lost crossover hints/clues.

It's not just the corporation though, it was the corporation and the government.
I bet there won't be any Lost stuff since they're on different networks.

That was out the window after the first couple of years, though. I mean, how many weeks can you see some weird alien shit without eventually giving in and agreeing that something else is probably going on.
That reminds me, I need to see that 2nd X-Files movie.

I missed it last night. Had to go out and celebrate a Birthday. I got it recorded though, so I'll chime in later.

I don't know, Scully was always all "well, there must be a rational explaination"
Thought this week's ep was good. I don't know, Kwyj isn't in love with it, but I think it's enjoyable, and I think it has a lot of potential.
Why'd the make Astrid (??) a dunce? She was a lot smarter in the pilot

I can see the x-files reference but I think this is a whole lot more hokey. He just happened to have a brain altering device stuffed in a dumbwaiter for 17 years? They're doing this in secret in a basement room (that has been untouched for 17 years) at Harvard? I dunno, the x-files didn't seem to be testing the limits of your ability to suspend disbelief to this degree. It was still about aliens and psychic phenomena, which I realize is hokey at it's very root, but it wasn't this cartoonish in doing it.

I liked this week's episode too. I missed last week because of you-know-what. I heard it was cool though...baby old man and such.
I agree it's pretty cartoonish. I think the way they have those floating block titles for locations makes it almost comic book-ish. I like it though. I really like Walter. I think he needs to have his own show. I dunno'. I guess when I watch television, my belief is pretty much on permanent suspend mode. I'll pick away and harrumph about reality, but TV is a little amusement park away from reality. So I choose Fringe as my ride of choice for the season...at least on Tuesday nights.

It's pretty much mindless fluff, but sometimes that's exactly what you need. I'm not loving it, but we're going to keep watching for now.

I liked the
smoking man's
bald guy's pocket watch. I'd like to know where I could get one.
I still think the show is dumb.

Am I (and occasionally Kwyj) the only ones sticking with this?
Haven't seen last night's yet, but we did just watch last week's episode "The Equation"
Best of the season so far. Walter and Peter are such interesting characters. Walter going back into the asylum like that was *awesome*

We're 3 or 4 episodes behind. I liked the episode with the radioactive cancer women. But other than that, I'm pretty "meh" on this. I asked Brian if we could stop watching it, but he likes it, so.... Pacey lives on in my DVR. One game I like to play while watching this show is to see how many times the main actress slips up and her Australian accent comes out. It happens at least once per episode. Dialogue coach, anyone?
