Was the third reviewer under the impression that The Joker was the Dark Knight?

Can't believe only one of the five picked Tropic Thunder.  Is it due to it's release being early in the year?  It was a wonderful flick.

You should bring up those questions in the comment sections out on the story     Wink

Agreed (seeing as I was the one who picked it), but I just saw Seven Pounds on Saturday and had I seen it before I wrote this article, it would have replaced Tropic Thunder.

So there are two places to comment on stories now?  I thought part of the redesign was to better tie the zine and the boards together?  That does just the opposite.

It's a blog now, so you can comment directly on the stories.

Well, somewhat true. A lot of people who read the zine don't visit the boards and would like to comment. Yet a lot of people on the boards don't visit the zine unless we make a post here that there is a new article. My reason for the comment was to get you to post out there to 1. get people to comment more out there and 2. I know that author doesn't visit the boards, therefore the chances of your question getting answered are less likely.

There should be a way for comments here to show up there and vice versa.

Precisely, I thought that was the point.  When the blog idea was first brought about that was the concept.  I think this misses the mark.

We could hook the comments and the boards together with a bit of coding.  I took a look at that.

But honestly, after thinking about it I don't think it works that well.  Maybe it's just me, but I think of these boards more and more as being totally separate from the 'zine.

It would be nice if the 'zine had thousands of readers everyday, and many of those readers would probably be casual visitors.  They'd want to comment/discuss one or two articles, but they don't want to necessarily join a whole community.

And for us, I don't know that it would do much except clutter up the message boards if we had lots of one-time visitor comments.  Not that I'm saying the boards should be totally exclusive or anything, but it's a matter of commitment.  Not everyone wants to join a message board and they shouldn't have to.

But I think if they find themselves reading the 'zine a lot and really getting into the vibe of it, then they'll come here and check things out and then hopefully sign up.  So like, the messageboards are kind of the fan club of the 'zine.

Yeah, what you say makes sense.  I dunno, I see these boards as a dying thing more and more people are disappearing and nothing much goes on here anymore outside of people posting to the lists of CDs, books and movies, and those things don't generate discussion.

I dunno, maybe it's just me.  Wouldn't be the first time.

No, I agree with you.  I wish we could get more people and discussion on the boards as well.
I'm just not sure that linking it to 'zine comments accomplishes that.

If we're going to survive as a messageboard ultimately it's going to be from the money and audience that comes here from the 'zine.  TBH, if it were my call (which it isn't) and we had to eliminate something, I'd junk the boards and fold them into the 'zine.  All the starting posts to threads would be articles and we'd just comment on those and maybe go off on our own tangents from there a la Slashdot... similar to what we're doing with QOTD.

But the boards are basically free and require no time to maintain so we aren't faced with that problem.  Again, not that it's my call or anything.

Agreed. And when we post things on the boards about the zine, it's not to the main intent to start conversation, but to inform people on the boards that there are new stories on the zine, because I'm told most boarders skip the front page all together. I do the same thing on the woxy boards.

I don't like the idea of linking the comments and board comments together. Like I told someone today, I think the zine is more public, where the boards are more community (though open to the public as well). A lot of people on the boards aren't much interested in the zine and a lot of people who visit the zine aren't much interested in the boards. So this way, everyone is taken care of. Well, sorta anyhow.   Grin

Right, but when we want to talk with our friends about the article, we're going to post here vs the blog type area, because our friends all hang out here, so I guess just be prepared for commentary (hopefully) in both places

That's cool too. As long as everyone is reading.     Wink
