The divorce was 10 years ago. I thought It's Complicated was fantastic. Don't listen to Butter, he just doesn't like romantic movies in general. I think it's in my top 5 movies of the year, in fact.

I'll stick with you on the girl bandwagon and say I would totally recommend it to anyone who loves romantic comedies.

It's not so much a romcom as it is a sex farce.  Though it did have Alec Baldwin blowing pot smoke into John Krasinski's mouth, so it was worth it just for that.

49. Please Don't Eat the Daisies- Cute Doris Day and David Niven. This was okay.  Nothing great, nothing awful.  I really dug the jokes about keeping the baby in an upside down crib because he was prone to escape.  Does that bode badly for me as a new mom, that I liked them keeping the baby in a cage?  Eh, oh well.

Not crazy at all! At my museum, we have an actually "baby cage" in the collection. It's a playpen with a lockable lid made of chicken wire.  It was used on a nearby farm 80-90 years ago.  The baby was caged on the porch so that it wouldn't crawl away and get eaten, drown, burned, or otherwise harmed. I think it's awesome, though my coworkers are horrified by it!

1. Saving Silverman
2. Yours, Mine and Ours (1968 version)
3. Murderball
4. Back to the Future
5. Back to the Future Part II
6. Back to the Future Part III
7. The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T
8. Hell Boy II: The Golden Army
9. The Last King of Scotland
10. Zodiac
11. Taken
12. Apollo 13
13. The Jacksons: An American Dream
14. The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters
15. Transformers
16. X-Men Origins: Wolverine
17.  Who Killed the Electric Car?
18. Star Trek
19. The Flock- Pretty intense thriller with Richard Gere and Claire Danes
20. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer- Flame on, flame on...Worse than the 1st, which doesn't seem possible
21. The Greatest Show on Earth- I love this movie.  My mom intro'd us to it a long time ago and it still holds up for me.  I don't care what critics say about it being the worst "Best Picture" winner ever.  Jerks.
22. Strike Up the Band-  It was Judy Garland day on TCM
23. For Me And My Gal- Another Judy Garland movie
24. Viva Las Vegas- Elvis Day on TCM
25. How to Stuff a Wild Bikini-  One of those beach movies with Annette and Frankie.  Cutsey stuff.
26. Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House- Cary Grant & Myrna Loy.  Can't go wrong.  Watching these old movies makes me really sad that they just don't make them like this anymore.
27. I Never Sang For My Father- Gene Hackman day on TCM. This movie was a depressing look at a man and his emotionally distant father
28. Five Steps To Danger- Sterling Hayden day on TCM.  Got sucked intot his while feeding the baby.  Interesting low key (by today's standards) espionage movie
29. American Psycho- Um...Can somebody explain this to Kwyj & I.  We liked it, we just didn't get the ending.
30. The Trouble With Girls- DVR'd on Elvis day.  Awful movie, though there was some interesting camera work, believe it or not.
31. The Barretts of Wimpole Street- Jennifer Jones day.
32. The Harvey Girls- Angela Lansbury day. Silly little MGM musical.  Not the best, not the worst.  If you've never seen Angela Lansbury from when she was young...holy crap.  Angela Lansbury, circa 1947
33. Hairspray- The 2007 version.  I liked this a lot actually.  The songs were catchy, the acting was pretty decent.  Loved Christopher Walken as Mr. Turnblat.  Zac Effron was surprisingly good.  I wouldn't mind owning the soundtrack.
34. Mary of Scotland- Fredric March day.  I think I picked the wrong movie in the lineup for this day.  It just didn't keep my attention.  Sadly the sound was really off in this one.  That was part of why it was so hard to pay attention.
35. The Devil Wears Prada.  This was okay.  Meryl Streep pretty much made it worth watching.
36. Mama Mia.  I watched this earlier in the summer, while feeding the baby.  I liked it.  It was silly, and it was Abba, but it filled a couple of hours.  Meryl Streep can literally do anything.  She's amazing.
37. Women's Prison-  Jan Starling or Ida Lupino day I think.  Not very good.
38. Marooned- Gene Hackman day I think.  This was kind of boring at first, but started to pick up as the astronauts faced the liklihood that they weren't going to make it home
39. The King and I
40. Lord of the Rings...Uh, the 3rd one.
41. The Pianist- I can see why Adrian Brody won an Oscar for this.  It was a very good movie.  Hard to watch though.  The soldiers were so casual about what they were doing, killing, hurting, destroying everything.
42. Anchors Aweigh- leftover from Frank Sinatra day.
43. The Bachelor and the Bobbysoxer.
44. The Confederate States of America- This was a REALLY interesting look at what the US would be if the South would have won.  It was presented as a British Documentary of the slavery in present day America.  Throughout the "bbc presentation" they had commercials for american products, awful racist stuff.  The cool thing was at the end they showed all these present day products that you don't think of (Aunt Jemimia's, Uncle Ben's to name two).  This whole thing really made me think.
45. On the Town- Better than Anchors Aweigh.  Same vein.  Lots of really great dancing.  Man, Gene Kelly........
46. Phffft- Jack Lemon.  Cute movie about a couple that gets a divorce.  No, really, it was cute and funny...
47. Transformers 2- Sucked.  I liked the first for what it was, but this was just too much.  WAAAAY too long.  2 and a half hours.  Ugh.
48. Sunday in New York- 60s romantic comedy with Jane Fonda.  Really cute.
50. American Graffiti- Liked it, but it was slow paced to be sure.  Took us 3 nights to finish it.
51. The Odd Couple- Good stuff.  The two english gals, the "Coo-Coo Pigeon Sisters" were a trip.
52. Singing in the Rain- Really good song and dance movie.  I think after this year I'm a little in love with Gene Kelly.  Too bad I hear he was kind of a jerkface in real life.
53. Love Actually- The annual viewing.  As someone I work with called it, "the ultimate chick flick"
54. Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story- Holy crap this was funny.  Stupid but really funny. John C. Riley was REALLY good in this.
55. The Hangover
56. The Story of Seabiscut-  Shirley Temple version from 1949.  It's funny, because Shirley was totally the weak link.  She did this awful Irish accent.  Terrible.  Oh, and apparently the Tobey Maguire version had it all wrong.  Wink
57. Up- Holy crap, this was so good, and so sad.  I knew what was coming at the beginning, but jeez.  Had me much more teary-eyed than any kids movie should in the first 14 minutes.  The whole thing was just so sweet.
58. Elf
59. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince- Good Lord they cut out most of the book.  Seriously, it was waaaay too much on the blossoming teenage romances.  Ugh.  Barely even mentioned the stuff with the Half Blood Prince.
60. The Prestige- Way better than the other "magic" movie that came out the same time.  The Illusion?  Illusionist?  The lame one with Ed Norton.  This one was good. Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale and Michael Caine, all good.
61. Rosemary's Baby- Man, Mia Farrow was good in this.  Glad I didn't watch this while I was pregnant.  Would have freaked me out.
62. No Deposit, No Return- Silly 70s era Disney flick.  2 kids, 2 minor league crooks, hijinks ensue.
63. Three Amigos-  Hehe, "son of a motherless goat"  I had forgotten about that one.
64. Away We Go- Maybe it's because of the baby, but I really dug this movie.  It was funny and sweet.

I love that about the baby cage VaV!  Take a picture!!!

46. Three Amigos - Another classic that I'd never seen before.  Loved it.

47. Away We Go - Wacky and sweet.  All of the people they visited gave amazing performances, but Allison Janney was hilarious, she completely stole the show.  I'm glad they left dumb ol' Jim Gaffigan kind of in the background.  Loved Maggie Gyllenhal, her character was so creepy, she played it well.  The brother was heartbreaking.  Not long on plot, but so much story... really great movie.  Oh, and John Krasinski should never grow a beard again.

101. THE HURT LOCKER - 12/30/09 - AMC Barrett Parkway - 3 out of 5 - "He keeps bomb parts under his bed." - I'm just going to be lazy and post part of the Alan Sepinwall review that made me finally get off my butt and take The Greg to go see this one.

Among the many things that are cool about it - Jeremy Renner's performance (I can't believe ABC had this guy under contract for a show and let him go), the various action set pieces expertly set up by director Kathryn Bigelow, all the effective cameos - I may be most impressed with how Bigelow and writer Mark Boal managed to make a 100% non-political Iraq War movie. "The Hurt Locker" never asks why we're there; it just accepts that we are, and then goes to show you what that experience is like (terrifying, but also thrilling, mostly) for one specific unit that's there.

What an utter unexpected delight to end 2009 on! Ang Lee's gentle but beautifully observed movie about how Max Yasgur's farm came to be used for 1969's festival of love and peace turned out to be a marvellous and hugely enjoyable surprise. Script and performances to die for (who would have thought Demetri Martin could act?) with dozens of clever nods to extracts from the original Woodstock film. Recommended all the way.

So, 144 movies eh? Can't say I will be waching as many next year if recent trends continue. I think I have abandoned more films in 2009 than all previous years combined. From hugely anticipated flicks like "Precinct 9", "Away We Go" and "Public Enemies" through to schlocky rubbish I have mistakenly rented to pass the odd couple of hours or two. Give me films like "Taking Woodstock" or "Up in the Air" and I might even start going back to the cinema again as well. Scarily just 3 of my 144 were in front of a big screen at the local AMC. Here's to a better 2010!

Wow, that was bad.  I wasn't expecting much from this, and was still greatly disappointed.  At this point, they have completely thrown out everything that made the first one so great and went for straight torture porn.  I think the guys making the current movies haven't even seen the original or read a summary of it they are so far off the mark on Jigsaw.
