"Appian also is developing another remake of an '80s fantasy, a live-action version of the 1988 anime tale "Akira."

I'm sure we've all seen the commercials for the remake of Escape to Witch Mountain with a different title and starring The Rock, right?

They already did a Slapshot 2 (which may have involved a Baldwin), so is this new one a remake of the original Slapshot with Paul Newman and Michael Ontkean? If so, I will set every single person involved on fire.

I've seen the ads for this.

I'm sure I'll end up taking the kids.

The Witch Mountain one I don't mind as much, because it's obviously not a remake, it's like *another* Witch Mountain, which is cool, because Disney made a crappy sequel back in the day with the original kids.

Ya'll know they are remaking the Karate Kid with Will Smith's son? That's the one that hurts me the most.

Here's how they make these decisions:

Studio Execs: We need a project for 2010 that will bring in the $$.
Producers: I have an idea - we should remake a movie that already has a legendary following. This way we can use the fanbase as our target audience. But we'll use modern techniques and actors so we can also get the younger audiences to love this film, too.  That way we double our demographic.
Studio Execs: Hmmm, your remake will likely make money? This must be a great idea. Green light!
