Hughes pulled himself from public life a looooooooooong time ago, but his movies are seriously part of my EVERY DAY LIFE. I'm thankful for his body of work (I'm not looking at you, BABY'S DAY OUT). Truly the screenplay of my life in so many ways. I spent YEARS making John Hughes questionnaires and passing them out to my friends in the hallways between classes. It was a serious status thing among my friends to have every word and rhythm of his dialogue perfectly memorized. Still is, really. I don't know many people within 10 years of my age (older or younger) who don't get totally giddy when you quote a Hughes line.
