This was passable.  Typical pre-teen humor with different protagonists.  The theater we were in had about 150 6-11 year olds in it.  And the capacity was 282 according to the plaque on the wall entering the theater.  Impressive to reach so many of your target audience the first night.

12. Hotel Rwanda - A powerful movie that shows the horrors of hatred and mob justice. Just depressing to think I belong to the same species that is capable of such atrocities. I just will never be able to even begin to comprehend how someone can butcher an innocent child. There will always be a small dark spot on my soul knowing I saw the reports on television, shrugged and went on with my day. There is a line from Nick Nolte's character when it becomes apparent that there will be no relief efforts after all the Westerners are evacuated that kind of says it all, "you're not even a n*****, you're African." As depressing as it was, its definitely one of those movies we should all see.

Visually this Levinson movie has always been top notch for me. It's as colourful and beautiful as they come. It's a shame he couldn't have squeezed out better performances - or even better actors - to play the lead roles, and not have succumbed to certain elements which stick this film squarely in the 80's. It could/should have been timeless.

17. HACHI: A Dog's Tale - 02/20/10 - RedBox DVD - 3.5 out of 5 - OH Man. Want to cry like a little girl over and over again? Watch this movie. Sweet lord!
18. TWO LOVERS - 02/21/10 - DVD from library - 2 out of 5 - Meh. Unexpected performances from Gwyneth Paltrow and Joaquin Phoenix. But, I liked no one in this movie and it just draaaaaaaagged on. I almost turned it off a couple of times.

1) The Hangover - It was funny I guess.  Never been to Vegas, so a lot of it was lost on me.
2) Inglorious Basterds - Pretty kickass when Brad Pitt was on the screen.  Still cool otherwise.
3) District 9 - One of the best Sci-Fi movies I've ever seen.  I'm buying this one to add to my DVD collection of like 20 films.
4) G-Force - About as lame as I figured it would be.  I'm still amazed Tracy Jordan does voice overs for kids movies.
5) Moon - I'd never even heard of this before I read all of your reviews.  I liked it.  I wasn't blown away by it, but I thought it was a good, solid sci-fi movie.  It was a refreshing change to have the robot not trying to kill the guy.
6) The Hurt Locker - I liked this.  I've been sick of shoot 'em up war movies and this was more of a sciency take on war.  I wish there was more cool bomb diffusing stuff.
7) 9 - Pretty much as awesome as I expected it to be.
8 ) Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs - I thought it was freakin' hillarious.  So did the kids.  The wife, not so much.  I think she's a purist and wanted it to be like the book.  But face it, that would be pretty boring.  Loved the Monkey Thought Translator and the Rat Birds.
9) The Fantastic Mr. Fox - An excellent adaptation.  I thought it stayed very true to the spirit of the book.  It was funny and sweet and madcap.  The use of the Beach Boys was pretty artful.
10) Surrogates - Somewhat interesting premise, crappily done.  Once I learned the antagonist's motivation, I was done.
11) Yes Man - Another typical Jim Carrey movie.  It was good, mindless, folding the laundry entertainment.
12) Bright Star - Got suckered into watching this stupid, boring period piece about people wearing silly hats.  So slow my wife even fell asleep and it was her pick.
13) Up In The Air - Depressing watch for me.  Too many lay offs coupled with a boring back story and uninteresting characters.

14) Ponyo - This was excellent.  Miyazaki always delivers on the super adorable.

15) The Princess and the Frog - The kids loved it, the wife had some kind of argument on how Disney is racist, I just thought it was awesome animation and enjoyed the whole thing.

16) Where the Wild Things Are - Boring as shit.  It was like taking some off your favorite childhood creatures and using them as puppets to conduct a therapy session.

17. HACHI: A Dog's Tale - 02/20/10 - RedBox DVD - 3.5 out of 5 - OH Man. Want to cry like a little girl over and over again? Watch this movie. Sweet lord!

Even the manliest moviegoer likes to have a good cry from time to time. Bill Murray knew that much in Stripes when he asked his platoon to raise their hands if they cried when Old Yeller died. We fellas may appear to be emotionally bulletproof sitting through female-friendly weepies like Steel Magnolias and Beaches, but throw a dog into the mix and the floodgates tend to bust wide open. Hollywood's been hip to this for ages, going back as far as 1943's Lassie Come Home — a perennial that defies you not to reach for the Kleenex. Since then, there have been heart-tuggers aimed at art-house crowds (1952's Umberto D.), action-flick aficionados (2007's I Am Legend), and mainstream multiplexers (2008's Marley & Me). What all of these movies about man's best friend have in common is that they're guaranteed to turn on the most stubborn waterworks. At first glance, there was little reason to expect Hachi: A Dog's Tale's inclusion on that list. After all, films directed by Lasse Hallström (Chocolat) and starring Richard Gere generally don't bypass theaters and basically go straight to DVD if they're half decent. But this one's a three-hankie gem. Based on a true story, Hachi is the tale of a professor who adopts a lost Akita puppy who sits outside the train station every night, loyally waiting for him to come home. Then, one day, his master doesn't come home (I'm not giving anything away, it's in the trailer) and Hachi just waits...and waits. All I can say is, I lost it. And unless you're made of stone, you will too. A run-of-the-mill making-of doc is the sole EXTRA. No matter, Hachi still gets an A–.

I forgot about this movie, even though I know the source material... but really, this boils down to how much Richard Gere and Jason Alexander are in it. I dislike them both and that would severely impact my enjoyment of it. They're not quite Phil Sioux / Siouxsie Collins wretched to me, but they're close.

You weren't looking forward to this re-teaming of the PRETTY WOMAN duo!?!?!?!
Alexander works at the train station. He's very much in the background. Gere, on the other hand, is the dog's human. So, he's in a lot of the movies. But, it's hard to notice ANYONE or ANYTHING except the dog when it's on the screen.
