Well, with E3 being next week (where every gaming company under the sun will be announcing plans for Christmas), information about updates to current products are being announced. Some details about the new version of Rock Band have surfaced. Here's the info known thus far:

1. Keyboards and pro settings! According to Kotaku, "The keyboard is a "25-key, fully functioning MIDI" version of the real thing, and is one of two key improvements made to the game, the other being the introduction of a new "Rock Band Pro" mode for expert players, which replaces colored tabs with real musical symbols in an effort to get players on the track to playing real instruments."

2. Pro mode will use full instruments. Not sure how just yet. "To complement Pro mode, there are two new guitar controllers in development that feature actual strings, one a full-sized replica of a Fender Stratocaster, the other a Fender Mustang Pro. "You can go from plucking single notes to power chords and bar chords, we have crazy stuff like tapping and slides," Harmonix's Sylvain Dubrofsky says. "If you ever had any aspirations of connecting with the music in a deeper way ... you are really going to like Rock Band 3."

3. Everything introduced in Beatles:RB will move to the new game (like harmonies, not sure about dreamscapes).

Finally, they released a partial songlist:

A song from the Doors and a new keyboard controller?  My fingers might fall off.

On the other hand the person doing the vocals will have time to walk down to the liquor store...

O.k  We finally borrowed guitar hero from a friend and my son and I have been having a lot of fun with it. So my question to you guys who have mastered it is, has this game or the other games like it ever encouraged you to take the leap into playing an actual instrument?  I want my son to learn to play guitar and I wonder if this game is helping or hindering him.  I do like the fact that it's opening him up to new music.  He and his brother go around the house singing "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" nowadays.

I've nothing to add about playing an actual instrument, but I will say at least they aren't singing "Hit me with your bullshit" (which is what we used to sing in high school when the song was new).

It might be worth getting just between these and "Roundabout".
