New Shows 2011
«

Now that a lot of my cable shows are over for the season, I'm actually kind of excited to see some of the new offerings coming out in January. "The Cape" (NBC) and "Off the Map" (ABC) seem interesting to me. Vinnie Jones on TV on the same show as Delroy Lindo? "Off the Map" may prove to be a LOST rip off. But, I'll give it a shot.
Oh! Wanted to give a 12/31/10 shout-out to the Divine Miss M. I'm actually pretty excited to see her NYE special on HBO, "The Showgirl Must Go On". Would have been very fun to see her in Vegas during her 2-year stint there.

I'm hoping the one with Kathy Bates (can't think of the name of it) on NBC will be as awesome as I hope.

Just saw a preview for "the Cape"- it's totally my style, so I will be watching. That is, if I get my converter box fixed by then. (I think the cats messed it up and I just need to find the cord that has come loose, but I'm not sure...)

Yeah, I'm with you, but more because of David E Kelly. I miss Boston Legal, so I hope it's a decent replacement.

The trailer for "Falling skies"
on TNT.
Ooooo... it may not be great tv but the effects look pretty damn good for basic cable. Could be fun summer viewing.

Is it HBO or FX that's going to have a show about a boxer? That one looks kind of good.

I think it's FX.

Did anyone watch "the cape" last night? They're showing it again tonight. I liked what I saw, not sure if I'll watch next week, but maybe.

I DVR'ed it. Not sure when I'll have time to watch it though.

The USA remake of "Shameless" is utter shit.
In fact, it gives shit a bad name.
This despite Billy H Macy and Joan Cusack amongst others
Talking of shit on a stick, MTV's remake of "Skins" is incoming too.
Next you'll be telling me a studio will be remaking "Law & Order UK"?!!

I am holding out hope for Skins (although I'll probably be disappointed). It is the same creative team and it looks like they are reusing most of the same storylines, so maybe it will be okay.

I just watched both eps of "The Cape this afternoon (snow day). It was fun, though not enough Summer Glau for me. Good set-up, with villains that should last a couple of seasons, and a semi-plausible reason for the guy in the cape to be able to do everything he does. I'll continue to watch online, since my cats have managed to fubar my converter box for the tv.

I was really disappointed in "The Cape." I like the general premise of the show, it's fun if not stunningly original. But the pacing is horrible. The first episode could easily have been spread over the full two hours. It was like watching a one hour highlight version of a movie. Or not even that good. I could summarize the episode in a short three sentence paragraph, and it would have all the suspense and emotion of watching the show, and you'd also be totally caught up.
The only reason they were able to speed so quickly through things is because the show is so unoriginal. You already know what's going to happen so they just skip through it. Which doesn't exactly bode well for surprising twists and turns as the season proceeds. And yeah, the complete lack of Summer Glau was exceedingly disappointing. When you can't make any scene last longer than 2 minutes, it's hard to feature any characters.

I thought The Cape was goofy, corny fun. I'll watch it when convenient.

We started watching it on the DVR and then deleted it after about 30 minutes. Slick, but not my thing.
