My first post here (refugee from the WOXY boards), so my apologies in advance if this news has already been posted elsewhere.  Also, my apologies in advance if I offend anybody with my lack of familiarity with the protocols here.  And, my apologies in advance, if I offend anybody with my strongly held opinions, my avatar or screen name, my personal dress code or my body odor.

Now that we have all that out of the way, British music rag Q has a surprising line-up of artists covering Achtung Baby track-by-track on the accompanying CD for their December issue:

1. Nine Inch Nails, “Zoo Station”
2. U2, “Even Better Than the Real Thing” (Jacques Lu Cont Mix)
3. Damien Rice, “One”
4. Patti Smith, “Until The End Of The World”
5. Garbage, “Who’s Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses”
6. Depeche Mode, “So Cruel”
7. Gavin Friday, “The Fly”
8. Snow Patrol, “Mysterious Ways”
9. The Fray, “Trying To Throw Your Arms Around The World”
10. The Killers, “Ultraviolet (Light My Way)”
11. Glasvegas, “Acrobat”
12. Jack White, “Love Is Blindness”

I was especially surprised by Trent Reznor appearing as NIN, as he previously announced he was no longer recording under that moniker.

I read about this somewhere (maybe a Facebook posting by U2) and wanted to listen to it. Thanks for the reminder and the link!

Nice! This is awesome (well, except for your body odor).

I'm shocked to see Garbage, Depeche Mode, and NIN in the same list. I feel like it's 1995 all over again.

I was pretty sure I knew exactly what that Garbage cover would sound like.  I was wrong.  It was a lot more mellow (and better) than I thought.

I don't know who Gavin Friday is or who The Fray are, but I dig their work on this disc. Especially Gavin Friday.

I don't know any song by The Fray, other than "How to Save a Life."  But I can tell you, I'm intimately familiar with that song, having heard it approximately 10,000 times in the last two years thanks to my co-worker.

I would have thought nothing could ever come close to that record, but it looks like "Rolling in the Deep" is going to give it a run for its money.  And the worst part of it is, it's my fault.  I tricked her into Adele because I was so tired of hearing The Fray.

U2.  I'm liking The Killers cover.  But then, I've always liked The Killers perhaps more than is strictly proper.

Thanks for that link...I know what I'll be listening to this afternoon. I had seen a tweet by DM (I believe) about this so can't wait to hear their song plus the others.

I enjoyed most of that...I felt the first half was stronger than the second. I liked every track at least a little (except for the one by The Fray which I didn't like at all) and that is saying something because I am not a fan of NIN.

I'd love to get a copy, if possible. And by copy, I don't mean an original CD or the magazine, but a CD-R copy. (Although if there's an extra of the former, I wouldn't turn it down.) Unless someone knows of way to get this in the US...

I'd be happy to send you a copy of the mag/CD if you'd like. I fear the CD will be somewhat unloved being in my collection, rather it went to a better, more appreciative home Smiley
