Strange but true: I used to work with a woman who claimed her Dad invented that stuff and made a fortune.  I have have no idea how to even begin verifying such a statement, though she definitely did come from a family where money was no object. 

So the next time you're grumbling while pulling that stuff off of a magazine cover, remember you kind of know a guy who once worked with somebody who claimed her Dad invented it.  Six degrees and all that.
