Anybody catch any clues up until now that they were in trouble?

Again, Holy shit.

From Facetube:

"We are sad to announce that after 30 years in continuous operation as a music venue under the ownership and operation of Ross Raleigh, the Southgate House will host its last show on New Years Eve, Dec. 31 2011.

We look forward to opening our business in a new location soon.

Thank you for the wonderful memories and your support."

Holy shit

So where should they go? Will they stay in the area? Will they sell out to someone that moves them to Texas?

I'd kill for the concerts we used to have come through here in the 70s.

Perhaps it's just part of the cycle of clubs opening and closing. NYC has similar stories such as CBGBs closing after a similar run a few years ago. Same with the The Knitting Factory in Manhattan. Etc.

I know that doesn't help the shock. I think I only went two shows there (Stereolab on June 6, 2000 and The Strokes/Moldy Peaches on Sept 4, 2001) but they were good memories. There was always something comforting about knowing that the Southgate House was still chugging along.

This really sucks. SGH was by far my favorite concert venue in Cincy. It also leaves Cincy in a bad spot as far as concert venues.  There really isn't anything left between small clubs and the shithole that is Bogarts.

There's the Madison Theatre, but it's like a new shiny shit hole to the south.  Unless they revamped it since I saw Flogging Molly, it's not worth the convenience fees to see a show there.

And I've talked to bands who will not come to Cinci because Bogarts is such a crappy venue in such a bad part of town.
