Title: Atoms for Peace - AMOK
Post by: euro60 on February 05, 2013, 04:32:30 PM
One of the most anticipated releases of the year for me. Got a "personal" email from Thom himself for the pre-order  8)  US release date: February 26.

Thom and Nigel also have announced 3 upcoming live dates (venues TBD), with more to follow:

Feb. 22: London, UK
March 8: Berlin, DE
March 14: New York, NY

I'm excited for this. Really like the singles I've heard so far.

So I've been listening to this since I bought the album last weekend. Very first impression: reminds immediately of 'The Eraser', sorta like "The Eraser II". Several listens later: it's solid, but definitely falls short of "The Eraser". 10 listens in: I'm surprised how all the songs sound alike, the album is like one long 45 min. track to me.

Compared to most commercial mainstream stuff, "Amok" is pure gold of course. But I can't help but feel a bit disappointed at the lack of diversity. Also, why did Thome and Nigel need the three extra musicians for? For live shows, that is a no-brainer. But for the studio stuff? I don't see it.

Finally forced myself to listen to this today.  It sounds exactly like Thom Yorke's solo stuff which sounds exactly like Radiohead to me.

I find it exceedingly boring.  At this point, Yorke is the Nickelback of modern rock.

After a few listens I'm disappointed with this one. Maybe it'll grow on me but for now it's falling flat.
