I won't be anywhere near 25 but I did just win tix from WNKU to see Sturgill Simpson @ The Madison at the end of the month! It's a sold out show.

Doors opened at 7 and we got there around 7:45. Yes, the place was way overbooked! We found a spot at the front of the balcony which wasn't too bad. Great show overall!

It was a pretty good show, but the sound mix (especially vocals) could have been a bit louder.  Granted, I chose poorly and was positioned in the fightin' corner that night, so maybe I just couldn't hear overtop of all the drunk knuckleheads looking to kick some ass.
Title: Re: 25 Concerts for 2015
Post by: mik on February 03, 2015, 01:45:09 PM
We had the same sound issues up in the balcony - vocals were mostly inaudible. Were you in the area where the fight broke out causing Sturgill to stop mid-song to give a good scolding - "I don't care who started it, I finished it"?
Funny

1.  2/14/2015--Al Stewart/Dave Nachmanoff--Fairfield Community Arts Center, Fairfield, Ohio

Not quite what I expected--more vibrant and animated than recent concert videos of Stewart and sideman/opening act Nachmanoff  that I've seen on youtube.  Good Valentines Day/anniversary date for Mrs. Drjohnrock and me.

drjohn, did you see that Dr. John is coming to the Taft? I saw him there in the Fall of 2011 (with Cindy Lauper). Great evening that was!

I saw that he's coming. I like some of his stuff but that's not how I got my screen name.  It's a long story I'll save for another time...

A work colleague of mine loves Lucero.  How were they?
Title: Re: 25 Concerts for 2015

Lucero were good. I've heard some of their music but was never really into them. Overall good sound and show as the band included a nice horn section. I would see them again.

Bingham put on a good show as well making for a good evening. There was a good sized crowd at least on the lower level (I didn't see what was going on up top) which was good. We saw Bingham play the Taft last year and the crowd was very light.

1.  2/14/2015--Al Stewart/Dave Nachmanoff--Fairfield Community Arts Center, Fairfield, Ohio
2.  3/27/2015--Sebadoh/Qui--Woodward Theater, Cincinnati, Ohio

My first show at the Woodward didn't disappoint.  Sebadoh performed a fine, solid set that seemed to improve the longer they went.  And every credit to them for having a support band that keeps them on their toes.  Qui was the most impressive opening act I've seen in quite some time.  The two man band created a sound as full if not more so than many bigger groups.  The music was kind of like a post-industrial apocalypse Pixies--rhythms that shift, and a varied sound that kept you guessing what would come next.  But their sonic arsenal is much broader than the Pixies.  I was so impressed I bought a CD at the merch table--something I rarely do.  And did you know that the former lead singer of The Jesus Lizard was briefly in the group?  Do you care?  I don't.

It was good meeting TayFo at the show.  He's a top bloke, as the Brits would say, and a nicer guy than me (it doesn't take much, in all fairness).

We're almost to the end of March and not many people have listed the shows they've seen so far this year.  Surely more board members than mik, TayFo and me have been to concerts in 2015.  Let's see more lists!

guilty as charged... I will list my shows in the next couple of days.

What did you think of the Woodward? to me, it's a place in progress... has great potential.

Pretty much my opinion as well.  Fortunately for me--but not so for the bands--the place was at less than half capacity for the show, so there was a lot of room to move around, and seeing the stage was no problem.  I wonder how it will be when I go to a show where it's packed.

Yeah, Sebadoh was rock solid. Nice to meet Dr.John. He's nicer then he leads on and I'm a jammy beggar to have hung out with him.

Side note: I have an extra ticket to Walk The Moon. I had to get VIP as that's all they had left, but it does include seats and bar service.

Good to hear.  I'm not a huge decemberist fan but wouldn't mind seeing them--they're coming to this year's Bunbury festival here in Cincinnati?

How were Alvvays?

I wish I could've seen this bill somewhere, more so for Alvvays (whom I haven' seen yet) than for the Decemberists (whom I've seen before).

How was alvvays?

Hell of a show last night, loads of fun.

They had better not get slotted against Temples or Tame Impala at Bunbury on that heavy-loaded Friday evening...

Thanks for the nice words, guys, but if my head swells up any more I'll get stuck walking through doorways.

I might be there for Chuck.  Like him, I've always wondered what "the night has a thousand eyes" meant.  I've been out to shows each of the last two weekends so it may involve some intense negotiations with Mrs. Drjohnrock.  I'll let you know.  Got your tickets yet?

DJR, no tickets yet - we'll probably just pick them up at the door. There will have to be some major bad event take place for us not to go. Right now Chuck Prophet is my favorite thing going. We saw him at SGHR a couple of years ago and I saw him in Ann Arbor, MI last summer - both great shows!

Tayfo, i'll keep an eye out for you - I recall meeting you at Carrie's visitation.

1. Public Service Broadcasting / KAUF @ Bowery Ballroom, NYC 4/10/2015

Public Service Broadcasting was great once again. First concert in over a year and we enjoyed ourselves. A lot of repeat techniques and jokes from last year but that's not a complaint. They do a good job of being live considering their type of music. Much of the music is definitely performed and they seemed to have a good time. If you like their recorded output then I highly recommend seeing them.

I had never heard of KAUF but he was decent. A little more button-pushy than PSB, though. Ironically the next morning I turned on my Grand Theft Auto 5 game and had my character drive somewhere. The in-game radio came on and a song from KAUF was playing. Whoa!

I don't listen that often, but CD 102.5 plays the heck out of them. Probably a big reason.

1) 4/18/2015 - Matt and Kim - LC Pavilon - C-Boss
2) 4/22/2015 - The Mountain Goats - Wexner Center - C-Boss

They had an opening act who apparently people were into (I can't remember his name but I remember he was in a band called Cave In) who was fairly bad. His set was half covers and his guitar was WAY to crunchy sounding.  The Mountain Goats were awesome as usual. They new CD is all about wrestling (yes, I'm not kidding) so they came out to the stage to the Dusty Rhodes "Hard Times" promo from the early 80s which got a huge pop from me. This was the first time I had seen John with a full band and it sounded really good.

I hate to tell you it was great. They still had the energy, the pipes and that drummer was torturing the skins. They should be the house band for AARP. Unfortunately I missed Barrence.

4.  5/9/2015  Southern Culture On The Skids--Southgate House Revival, Newport, Kentucky

My first SCOTS show didn't disappoint--a lot of fun.  In addition to their own material, they showed good choices in covers--I hadn't heard House Of Bamboo since I was in grade school.  And the final song was a blazing instrumental that's the best live song I've heard this year.

I can't be totally objective about the opening act from Cleveland.  Their lead singer was in another opening band I saw in '99 at the old SGH location.  At that show be berated the audience for not being into them like Cleveland audiences were.  It never occurred to him that maybe, just maybe, his band sucked.  The guy is older and grayer but no wiser--a lot of rock star poses, idiotic stage patter, ad naseum.  The guitar player deserves a better band.  In fact, the rest of the band ought to ditch him and find a new singer.

5.  5/22/2015--Steve Katz--Southgate House Revival, Newport, Kentucky, Kentucky

For Christ's sake--9 of us in attendance, 10 if you count the guy who stayed for two songs and might have had something to do with another show in the building.  And it was a really good show--Katz had a career in acoustic music before joining his famous bands (country blues, folk, jug band, etc), and he emphasized that part of his career in addition to the better known stuff.  I blame lack of advance advertising for the low turnout.  If Magus had promoted the show, there would likely have been a better turnout.  Sheesh...

what happened to all these good bands coming to cincinnati/ nky?  granted i haven't been into the new music scene in a few years and other things are occupying my life, but good to great indie bands used to come here all the time.  i'd go to like 20 shows a year.  shouldn't woodward be at least pulling in the shows that the underrated mad hatter?

My own dilemma on that date was The Adolescents and The Weirdos at Thompson House vs. J. Spencer.  I probably would have chosen the former to relive the old punk rock days.  However, the dilemma has been resolved by my family--we're attending a Reds games that evening.

Coming to Bill Leist/JC memorial on Saturday, MissKitty?

Hoping to - at least for awhile. A friend's band is playing across town and we promised we'd make an appearance.

Sorry to hear you can't make the Jon Spencer show. I'm leaning toward that one because the new LP is so f*cking hot. (and so is Jon, truth be told)

1.  2/14/2015--Al Stewart/Dave Nachmanoff--Fairfield Community Arts Center, Fairfield, Ohio
2.  3/27/2015--Sebadoh/Qui--Woodward Theater, Cincinnati, Ohio
3.  4/4/2015--Rubblebucket/Vacationer--Woodward Theater, Cincinnati, Ohio
4.  5/9/2015  Southern Culture On The Skids--Southgate House Revival, Newport, Kentucky
5.  5/22/2015--Steve Katz--Southgate House Revival, Newport, Kentucky, Kentucky

6.  5/29/2015--  Dr. Ralph Stanley with Family & Friends featuring Nathan Stanley and The Clinch Mountain Boys--Thompson House, Newport, Kentucky

Ralph Stanley is a living legend and I'm glad I finally got to see him.  The man is 88 years old and it's certainly questionable whether he should still be touring.  He's frail, and grandson Nathan had to remind him of some of the words.  But that distinctive voice is still something to hear, and the band, as expected, was solid.  Local opening act My Brother's Keeper exceeded my expectations.  This young band really has a lot of potential in the world of bluegrass.

A board member asked about the Thompson House in the Southgate House thread.  I'll give my impressions later on in that thread.  But overall, not impressed with the place.

2) 2/12 Tim Easton @SGHR Newport, KY

4) 4/10 Chuck Prophet and the Mission Express @ SGHR (another great show from Chuck!)
5) 5/27 Courtney Barnett, Spoon, the Decemberists @ Red Rocks. Great show and venue - even endured a rain/hail/lightning delay between the Spoon and Decemberists sets.

7.  5/30/2015--The Jockey Club Bill Leist Memorial & BBQ:  The Reduced/Pedro-X Band/The Libertines (US)/BPA/No Excuse/Tigerlillies/Public Figure--Southgate House Revival, Newport, Kentucky

A fun and fitting farewell/celebration for Bill Leist--I think he would have been pleased.  I don't usually put shows featuring solely local and regional bands on lists like this but this show certainly merits an exception to that rule.

It's always good to see BPA but putting them in the Lounge wasn't exactly brilliant booking--too little room for all six members to be onstage at the same time.  Still, they were in fine form, and I'll never tire of hearing Forensic Dentist.  No Excuse put on a fine, powerful set in the Revival Room.  First time I've seen any performance in the RR--nice, more intimate stage and room.

The Pedro-X Band was a last minute replacement for Perfect Jewish Couple.  I didn't hear enough of their set to form an honest opinion but the main guy was generously handing out free CDs, and leaving copies of them on a table for people to pick up.  I look forward to playing mine.

The biggest treat of the evening was the reunion of the original three man incarnation of The Libertines.  A great set, more rocking than I recall from my many times seeing them back in the day.  Drummer Joe Hamm drove all the way up from Atlanta to take part.  It was fun talking to him and guitarist/lead vocalist Walt Hodge after their set.

Jughead (from SS-20 and his newer band, Public Figure) is going to try to book shows in the spirit of The Jockey Club once a month on Fridays in The Revival Room.  Hope he succeeds in that endeavor, and that some of the big crowd for this tribute to Bill will attend the shows.

Drjohn, how well was this attended? Just curious.

As a complete aside, I was at the Rolling Stones show in Columbus that evening. Ohio Stadium was filled to the rafters, I read later 60,000 attended. Our seats were in the upper section of the stadium, near the stage. These seats were $75 a piece, by the way. In the UPPER section of the stadium. My friend had never seen the Stones before, and she enjoyed it quite a bit. For me the show as to the musical merits was so-so. But Jagger is still up to "move it like Jagger", I'll give him that. He's 72 now. I can only hope to be half that good in shape when I get that age... The point of stadium shows like that (and the Paul McCartney show I saw at GABP a few year ago) is of course the communal experience, and in that, it succeeded.

I'm not into the Stones enough to see them live but I can only hope to get to see McCartney again before he shuffles off this mortal coil.  I saw him at Riverfront in '93 for the princely sum of $32.50 (green seats, stage left).  Will never see prices in that range again.

Very well attended, even more so than past Jockey Club reunion shows.  SGHR owner Ross Raleigh was in the Sanctuary during The Libertines set (I think), looking around with a big smile on his face.
He was obviously pleased with the turnout.

So I guess that the Enquirer has stopped doing concert reviews altogether? It had gone down in frequency for a number of years, but I mean, even the high profile shows like Bunbury or most big Riverbend shows don't even get reviewed anymore. I just checked (out of curiosity more than anything) if they have a review of the Morrissey show last night. They don't.

And CityBeat isn't much better either, regretfully. I couldn't believe that CityBeat had NOTHING reviewer-wise on Bunbury.

Maybe concert reviews is a dying (died?) art. Which is a shame.

Thanks for posting the Bunbury reviews, TayFo, much appreciated!

As a complete aside, despite your monstrous gig-going appetite, no Leggy yet this year? We shall correct that  :P

As a further complete aside, You, You're Awesome is still around? Who knew?

(Same could be asked about Bad Veins, once the darling of Cincy indie music only 3-4 years ago... I'm not aware they've played a local show in forever but they're still out there. The new 2015 album "The Mess Remade" is an inexplicable note-for-note remake of their 2012 "The Mess We've Made" album. Only difference? A new drummer. Wow, just wow...)

I had bought tix for the one day (Sat) of the inaugural NiFi fest that looked it could be fun (Kings Of Leon, Weezer, Spoon, Josh Turner, Benjamin Booker, Built To Spill, Cloud Nothings, and more)

Well... this is the email I got this afternoon...

Letter to NiFi Fans, Partners and Vendors

We are writing to share that Ni-Fi Festivals, LLC has made the decision to cancel NiFi Music Fest, scheduled to be held August 28-30, 2015 at the Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Kentucky.   We simply cannot deliver the NiFi vision and fan experience, at our desired level of excellence, given the lack of ticket sales to date.

All tickets will be automatically refunded in full directly by Ticketfly.  Ticketholders will receive an email confirmation from Ticketfly and should expect the refund to post within two weeks.  Please direct all other inquiries to info@nitrofidelity.com.

We thank you for your support of NiFi Music Fest and apologize for any disappointment this may cause.

Ni-Fi Festivals, LLC

I had read somewhere the organizers were expecting 30 or 40,000 people to show up, which I thought was absolutely ludicrous but hey, whatever... At least (or is that "at last"?) 1 fest that bites the dust!

I wonder how much they tried to publicize this now-cancelled festival. I know a lot of music fanatics and no one was talking about this fest.  I knew about it but then not everyone fanatically scours the internet looking for concert info like I do.

So. Much. Fun.

Dave's voice is still amazing. He was really hamming it up (and rightfully so) and the band was tight as could be. It was wonderful to see (and be part of) an older crowd jumping and skanking to the beat. Everyone - band and audience alike - had a great time. Probably one of the funnest shows I've been to in a long time due to the positive energy.

They played 'em all too. Twist & Crawl, Ranking Full Stop, Stand Down Margaret, Mirror in the Bathroom, Tears of a Clown, Save It for Later, I Confess, Tenderness (General Public), Rough Rider. And they did a fantastic version of The Staple Singers' I'll Take You There mashed with the Harry J Allstars' The Liquidator. Fuckin' ACES.

I would have liked to hear Jeanette, but I can't fault their set list at all. They played a couple of new songs too and announced their new LP should be out this fall. Good tunes.

Off to the Casino tonight for Weezer. It's only one day short from 20 years when I saw them at Bogart's.
Followed up by Beverly at MOTR. I don't expect it to be empty.

Was this with Toadies opening?  A friend of old mine was at that show and he said that Toadies blew Weezer away.

I honestly don't recall, but some internet research said it was Teenage Fan Club and That Dog.
There was also a show in 1996 that Placebo played with Weezer, but you know . . . internet.

1.   4/8/15 CincySings – Music Hall
2.   5/28/15 Chris Porter – Go Bananas Comedy Club, Montgomery
3.   5/29/15 Automagik, The Yugos, Surfer Blood – Fountain Square, Downtown
4.   5/30/15 Sonic Sun – American Legion Post 72, Mount Carmel
5.   6/11/15 Soul Pocket – A Taste of Duveneck, Cincinnati Art Museum, Mount Adams
6.   6/12/15 Near Earth Objects, Coconut Milk, Broncho – Fountain Square, Downtown
7.   6/19/15 Daddy Long Legs, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion – Woodward Theater, OTR
8.   6/24/15 Positive Mental Attitude – Fountain Square, Downtown
9.   6/26/15 Old City, Mother Mother, Sloan – Fountain Square, Downtown
10.   6/27/15 Third Coast Kings – MOTR, OTR
11.   6/30/15 Morrissey – Aronoff Center, Downtown
12. 7/21/15 The English Beat - SGHR Newport
13. 7/29/15 Hundred Days with The Bengsons - The Know Theatre*

So I am in two mind about listing this one. The description is "Young couple has time together cut short by fatal illness. With brash intensity of youth, they try to live 100 days as if it was the 60 years they'd imagined. Concept, music and book by The Bengsons." We were expecting a play or musical, but it was nothing of the sort. I would hesitate to even call it a rock opera, because it was basically a husband and wife duo (The Bengsons) with a backing band (which included vocalist Jo Lampert, one of tUnE yArDs' backup singers, and drummer Brian Adrian Koch from Blitzen Trapper) playing a bunch of songs about death and dying. Personally I thought some of the songs were really strong, while others barely registered "meh." CR and our friend K both found the whole thing self-indulgent and laughable.

So anyway, the show was more a band playing a concept album from start to finish rather than any sort of play/musical/rock opera, so I'm listing it as a concert, but with an asterisk.

10. 8/1/2015--Lilly Hiatt/Aaron Lee Tasjan--Southgate House Revival (Revival Room), Newport, Kentucky

I really went for Tasjan, and his 56 minutes were highly entertaining.  I hope someday he can afford a band.  His acoustic guitar playing was fine but some of his tunes would be even better with a tight, rocking band behind him.  And despite his name checking Tim Easton, I've seen both and Tasjan is still much better (sorry again, mik).

Lilly Hiatt had her moments.  But overall, her material and delivery aren't enough to make her stand out much from the pack of soundalike singer/songwriters that you can hear on WNKU.  She needs to have more material as strong as Jesus Wouldn't Let Me Pick The Restaurant, the set's highlight. Having her father John's ability to write catchy hooks wouldn't hurt either.  She played 52 minutes to a (quite small) crowd that certainly wasn't hostile but there were no calls for an encore--that tells you something right there.

On edit:  Just checked Ms. Hiatt's facebook page.  She has deleted her post re:  in store appearance at Shake It and the gig at SGHR, and all of the replies.  I don't think she'll be doing another gig in this area anytime soon.

Great reggae band. Most of their songs were original, although they did slip in a Dennis Brown cut in the first set. They brought dub into the mix, and Blake was a skilled toastmaster. Perfect evening.

7) 8/26/15 - Seven Seconds - Southgate House

If someone had told me back in the day that 7 Seconds would still be around in 2015, I would have been too busy laughing to reply.  Old hardcore punk rockers never die, they just keep touring.  How were they?

They were really good. They were a band I never got to see back in the day so it was good to finally get to see them. They know their place and played a bunch of old stuff with some of their new CD mixed in. They played for probably 75 minutes, which for a punk band is a good bit of time. The closed with Satyagraha from Soulforce Revolution which surprised me since most people look down on that part of their career.

9-11 The Damned / Twin Rivers – Bogart’s

The Damned--one of the greatest bands of all time.  I was slightly tempted to break my Bogart's boycott for this one.  I've seen them three times before, though.  How were they?

I will go back to Bogart's for an XTC reunion but only if the lineup is:

Andy Partridge
Colin Moulding
Terry Chambers
Dave Gregory and/or Barry Andrews

They can have back up musicians but I will accept no substitutions for the core group members.

DrJohn,, not to start another flame war, but Bogarts is not what it used to be. Nor is Short Vine. You can go to dinner at Taste of Belgium (just a block away) before the show, and imbibe a few good Belgian beers before the show. If you get my drift :-))

I like the Taste of Belgium in OTR.  But I can't drink myself into going to Bogart's, and one needs to have one's wits about him in that area whether going to Bogart's or not.  But steady on, euro--I'll see you there at the XTC show :)

There's no opening act listed on SGHR's website so I'm assuming there isn't. I'm going to just see what happens with the game and go down if I think I'll have time. I'm hoping it works out!

11. 9/18/2015--Barleyjuice/Shamrock Club Pipes and Drums--Bryne's Pub, Columbus, Ohio

So, what show could Mrs. Drjohnrock I catch while our daughter and her friend saw Twenty-One Pilots at Schottenstein Center?  Marmozets? No, guitars too loud for the Mrs. and I think they cancelled anyway.  Milk Carton Kids?  Nah, show cost too much if we had to leave early to round up the kids.  Crooks On Tape? Of marginal interest, and the club is in an area where I've had bizarre things happen.  Lucy Wainwright Roche and Suzzy Roche? Show started too late.  After Funk?  Ditto, and the club sucks by a lot of accounts.

So the winner was Barleyjuice, a band that rocks up Irish and Scottish themed music.  I was all set to be disappointed, but I wasn't, not by a long shot.  You could almost forget they were playing a small stage in a small neighborhood bar.  They pounded out the tunes with a lot of energy, passion and humor.  They're able to laugh at themselves, too--"Another Fuckin' Whiskey Song", indeed.  And while Bryne's is a nice place with friendly employees and customers, this band deserves a wider audience.

15. 8/12/15 Ukombozi with Milton Blake - Fountain Square, Downtown
16. 9/19/15 Scott Witte - Molly Malone's, Covington

Scott's one of our football friends who occasionally does acoustic sets at MM. He doesn't play any original material but the covers he does are not your standard fare. It's nice to hear Little Feat and Nebraska-era Bruce once in awhile.

17. 9/23/15 Robyn Hitchcock and Emma Swift - Southgate House Revival, Newport

I rarely miss seeing my man Robyn when he comes to town, and he never disappoints. If I had any complaints, it's that he didn't play long enough or delve too deeply into his back catalogue. Emma seems like a very sweet girl and has a lovely voice when she and Robyn harmonize, but god, she's a shit guitarist. Nice evening though.

18. 9/25/15 Jr.Jr. - Washington Park/MPMF

It was free.

19. 9/26/15 Ride - Washington Park/MPMF

25 years on and they still sound fantastic. Good show.

20. 9/27/15 Turbo Fruits, Dirty Fences, White Reaper, Heaters - MOTR/MPMF

Even though we had weekend passes, the only night I was really interested in was Sunday. Every one of the bands on the MOTR bill killed it. Definitely worth staying out late on a Sunday to see these bands. Bonus: Getting snogged by guitarist/singer Jack Daves from Dirty Fences (and the band photog captured it for posterity).

Yeah, I've got a wide range of musical interests.  Still can't believe I didn't see these guys during the time they did shows at the Emery Theater for Riders Radio Theater.  Fine show, and proof that entertainment isn't a dirty word.  The high school theater wasn't bad either, though it will probably never host any touring acts besides those the Greater Cincinnati Performing Arts Society books.  Go elsewhere for your punk rock.

because we are old. Or the crowd was way young. Or both.
Ha! so glad to hear this. Let's face it, our prime time is over. And I'm fine with that. I look back at my concert going days, and I'm going "wow, did I ever do that back in the day?" Not so much today...

Yeah, we had a fun time but there came a point when we became more concerned with the state of this poor little Asian girl who was totally f*cked up on something (and her 3 dude friends thought it hilarious) than enjoying the show. And then more and more really messed up kids were turning up and we decided to bail before things disintegrated further.

13.  11/1/2015--Crystal Bowersox--Private Event

I had absolutely no idea I would be seeing what amounted to a gig this afternoon.  The conference I went to had a number of speakers scheduled, including Bowersox.  But I'm not a fan of American Idol, the conference materials I had didn't say she would be doing anything but speak, and I really didn't know who she was ahead of time.  But as a group of us were waiting outside the room where she was appearing, you could hear a soundcheck in progress.  She said that she's a better singer than speaker, so she mostly sang for 45 minutes or so.  She mentioned doing a commercial with B B King, and I recalled seeing that once she talked about it.  I don't think I'll ever be a fan, but it was a nice change of pace in a program of people mostly talking.

Musician, author, raconteur, tongue in cheek politician, offender of the politically correct, Kinky Friedman covers a lot of bases.  And he puts on a fine, entertaining show.  Kinky turned 71 recently and you never know how long he'll keep touring so I didn't want to miss this concert.  Also, he said during the show that he's losing his hearing.  Whether that's true or not--and with Kinky, one never knows--I was glad to see him again.  His was the last gig I saw at the old Southgate House location and it was great to see him at the SGHR.

Show number 15 is likely the last for me for '15.  It was a good show and it was nice meeting proud papa euro60.

Hope to see more rock-oriented shows in 2016.  It helps that some in the early months are on weekend nights:  Low (if their Cincinnati date is ever confirmed), the Wussy/Scrawl show at the Woodward, and They Might Be Giants

12-26 Electric Citizen / All Seeing Eyes / Leggy – Northside Tavern

You stayed for All Seeing Eyes and Electric Citizen?  I gave All Seeing Eyes one song and a part of another to prove themselves.  And while they were a little better than I would have thought, I overdosed on "boogie" music as a teenager.  Since there wasn't a cover, I could leave without feeling I didn't get my money's worth.

The cover was Young Man Blues by The Who. They were ok as were Electric Citizen but nothing I'd go out of my way for again. I hadn't seen either of them before. There are some bands who I've seen their name so many times I thought I've seen them annd passed judgement. I've been wrong a couple of times and ended up "discovering" bands I like whom I had written off like The Perfect Children and Us, Today.
