I've been posting these at WOXY...thought I'd share the love.  Here the one's I've posted over there so far...

The Cool Ones (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6733844678117980160)

Warp back in time to that whimsical 2 week period of our cultural history  when this was actually cool.

This one blew my mind...

Octopus Camoflage (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-9203354934457918497)

And this next one is too priceless to pass up...

This year's dunk contest sucked worse than ever.  Apparently the rules were changed so now you had unlimited chances to make your dunk.  So the winner, who's like 5'9" or so, missed 14 consecutive dunks (Seriously...it was 14.  Excruciating to watch) before throwing one down.  And then there's this guy in the video clip who probably has the most memorable dunk in the last ten years of the contest, who gets robbed.  The NBA needs to do away with this contest next season, or dramatically revamp it.

Post by: Dan on February 22, 2006, 11:35:13 PM
Yeah, that happened last year, too.  The dude...Anderson, I think?...took about 8 tries, and I watched all 8.  It sucks after the third try.

That dude, btw, was the first guy in years to be kicked out of the NBA for substance abuse violations.  Articles about it said he would be best remembered as the guy who took so many attempts to dunk.  I thought that funny.

Nate Robinson is the name of the winner.  I heard his Spud Webb dunk was pretty cool, but I didn't see it.

Personally I find the dunk contest boring.

Post by: Nate on February 22, 2006, 11:51:25 PM
Yeah, he jumped over Spud Webb and dunked.  Ehh.  It was ok.

The substance abuse violation policy in the NBA is killer.  Two year suspension.  Which effectively ends player's careers.  And also explains why violations are rare.

Yeah, pretty cool.  I liked the other one better.  Especially if it took 14 takes to do this one.  Ugh.

Question for all you smart people:  Why can't my Firefox play videos? If I go to that page it gives me a broken link and says "click here to install" and then just leads me to the latest Windows Media Player download.  Except I've already done that two or three times, so I KNOW that I have Windows Media Player.  Is there an extension that I need to get?  It's annoying to have to go open IE just to watch the videos.

Athena Senior Inspires
by Jim Aroune
courtesy: Greece Central School Dist.
Published Feb 17, 2006
They may never stop talking about what they witnessed Wednesday at Greece Athena's final home boys varsity basketball game of the season.

And that would be a good thing.

Some in attendance at Athena's game against Spencerport will say it played out like a Hollywood script; like "Rudy," or "Radio;" stories about a long-shot and a waterboy who inspired their teams by not letting their shortcomings stop them from giving their all.

In what Jason McElwain did during the waning moments of the "Senior Night" at Athena, there may be much more.

Jason is the trainer for the Athena varsity team. So dedicated is Jason, he has not missed a game or practice in the three years he's served the team.

Wednesday for "Senior Night," Athena coach Jim Johnson had Jason suit up for the game. He sat excitedly on the bench in his school colors, number 52; an acknowledgement of Jason's commitment to the program.

Athena moved to a comfortable 20-point lead against Spencerport. With the home crowd calling and classmates waving signs of support, Johnson called down the bench to number 52. Jason, headband and all, headed out onto the court.

"I just wanted to score a basket," McElwain said.

"I"m just sitting there saying `Let him score just one point,'" his mom, Deb said.

With the help of his teammates, Jason stared down a shot from the corner. The entire Athena bench, and every person in the gym rose.

Jason missed.. by six feet.

Moments later, Jason grabbed another pass and let it rain. The shot, from beyond the three-point arc, swished straight through. In unison, those in the gym screamed.

In the game's final four minutes, Jason shot five more times from behind the three-point arc. He made them all. Each time, teammates on the bench would hold their heads and scream, fans would stomp, tears would flow.

Jason scored 20 points. He set an Athena record with a half-dozen three-pointers. His teammates and friends stormed the court. They raised him on their shoulders... wide-eyed and in awe of what they had seen. They asked Jason for his autograph.

" I was focused on the game. You gotta be focused on the game. Not anything else," Jason said.

What made Jason being "in the zone" Wednesday not just another shooting streak is that he is autistic.

What his example will do for others with autism is a story yet to be told. Justin's mother believes it will mean great things for her son.

"Once the severe autistic child can break through, they can live in this world. Just like anyone else," Deb McElwain said.

As for Justin, whose teammates gave him the nickname "J-Mac" (as in Syracuse University guard Gerry "G-Mac" McNamara), his senior moment may continue to move his teammates in their pursuit of a post-season title. Coach Johnson hopes so.

"It was truly the most amazing thing I've ever seen in my life."

After being exposed to the Jason McElwain video about a hundred times, I don't know what to think.

The last thing I want to do is be critical, because any high school kid that gets a chance and drops a bucketload of threes is a great story.  And of course I'm aware that his autism is an added burden (though he appears high functioning).  I was moved by it, like everyone else.

But clearly, he's put a lot of practice in.  The kid has a nice stroke, and those were rainbows.  Good for him, his hard work paid off but I mean, why wouldn't he score?  You have good form, shots will fall.  There was no doubt from the time the ball left his hand on any of those.

I guess it's kinda like it's become a story for austistic kids overcoming adversity, and I don't deny that's a part of it.  But autism is a weird disease and some kids are just never going to be able to play basketball.  To me, it's more like if you practice hard on your game and develop a nice touch then nothing else matters; autism or awkwardness it's simple physics.  And that's a lesson every kid can feel good about.  Somehow it feels cheapened and then I feel bad about feeling that way.

I feel nothing but good for the kid, though.

After being exposed to Lazy Sunday about 3.4317x10^6 times over the past several months I've decided it's really not that funny (jk.)

As for J-Mac, rva, I don't think you're alone in having mixed feelings. Personally I think it makes a case for at least giving kids a chance, regardless of real or perceived disabilities. This kid was clearly dedicated to the team and had some refined, if not complete, skills. The coach could have found minutes for him on many occasions had he taken a moment to try and see past the "disability."

After being exposed to the Jason McElwain video about a hundred times, I don't know what to think.

You know, I've been thinking about this, too.  I think what it comes down to is the fact that we could ignore the autism and it would still be amazing.  Yes he has great form, but that doesn't mean he's going to hit 6 of 10 three-pointers.  What is amazing is that this is a kid who most likely has dreamed of playing for so long.  It's all he's wanted to do.  So they finally put him in, and they don't know how he's going to react.  Will he freak out?  Will he panic?  Will he stink it up due to nerves?  THEN we can add in the autism factor, and it makes it even harder to believe one of the above won't happen.  The fact that he was able to perform like that is just incredible considering he's never been in a game situation before.  We all know that those are tough situations, no matter how well-prepared you are for it.

But he also knew every play of theirs, so that helped him.  He also was probably (although I don't know for sure) popping the ball as soon as he got it and had a look.  His endless repetitions in the past helped as well.  The kids on the team were probably feeding him the ball as soon as they could, too.  These are all factors that helped it happen, but it doesn't mean it's easy.  After a while, the other team had to know he was going to pop it as soon as he touched it.  Yet he was still on fire.

So, not to shoot you down, but I do think it's still an amazing fact.  And, beyond all that, he's still autistic.  Craziness.

Stephen Colbert at the White House Correspondents Dinner...  long, but worth it.  He's about 15 feet from Bush, and addresses him throughout much of the dinner... to hilarious (to me), yet uncomfortable (to Bush) results.  Broken up into 3 segments:

Segment 1 (skip the first couple of minutes) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcIRXur61II)

Segment 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HN0INDOkFuo)

Segment 3 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJvar7BKwvQ)

One particularly good quote (among many): "(Bush) doesn't just stand for things, he stands on things. Things like aircraft carriers, and rubble, and recently flooded city squares."

I'm really happy to have found this one, and after banging on about the band for the years I've been posting bollocks on these boards, I thought i'd share. The Family Cat are absolutely one of my favourite bands, and I was glad to find that they actually have a video to one of their tunes still in existence. I don't know if Colour Me Grey was ever played over there on 97X, but it remains one of my top tunes, all the more for the fact that a very young and nervous Polly Harvey was in the video. Brilliant. If you're an indie fuckwit like me, I hope you enjoy the song. I was born in the same town as The Family Cat and Polly, and as Meatloaf once said, "Two out of three ain't bad".

They weren't great, but I loved them, Nate. Frigging excellent live, but definitely a band "of the times". If there is one thing i'd suggest you track down, it's their early single "Tom Verlaine", or perhaps the mini-album "Tell 'em We're Surfing", which features my favourite song of theirs, "From The City To the Sea". Standard jangly indiepop fare, but it's just a classic, simple pop song in my biased opinion. I'm not sure if it was ever released as a CD, but I'm sure you can track it down on vinyl - they were never that popular!

Some good old stuff. Having just finished the Malcolm Hardie book, I really wish they'd get some of the Friday Night Live stuff out on DVD. "The Dangerous Brothers", Arnold Brown, early Arfur Smith performances, etc etc.

I know, I'm a sad, repetetive bastard, but I love this one.

Dan, are you using Firefox 1.5?  Because the mod says it doesn't work with Firefox 1.5, and I can confirm that, having tried it.  No one seems to be able to figure out why, and neither can I.

I've fixed it so the link still gets pasted below.

You can either

1) click on the link (easy), or
2) click like mad while moving your mouse in the general video area until it pops open a new window and plays the video (difficult and foolish)

The Greatest Controversy in the History of Sport!

cRyG7QXVqns

Let me set this one up.  So like, I don't follow "pro" disc golf at all but the sort of Babe Ruth of the sport is this dude Ken Climo.  He's like the 10 bazillion time World Champion, and he's still apparently at the peak of his game.  I doubt most players (including myself) would recognize him in a crowded room, but we all know who he is because his name is probably on one of our discs.

Ken Climo is playing some dude Cale Leiviska who I guess is one of the young people upcoming in the sport, having picked it up when in the recent boom (made possible by Climo).  From what I gather, people like him but he's a bit of an upstart to the traditional guard.  So anyway, the tournament is they are playing in is billed as The Master vs. The Heir to the Throne kind of thing.

The video starts with Leiviska's drive on the 18th, (in black and white and not important).  Not pictured is Climo's drive, which I think lands pretty close to the cup and is an easy make.  So Leiviska has hole a long jump putt to tie the hole.  The video shows him making that incredible putt and celebrating.

At some point during this video something occurs which Climo challenges (challenge not shown).  His challenge is denied, and Leiviska goes on to win the playoff.  However, the challenge itself has apparently become a hotly debated and bitterly disputed topic in the (small but fanatical) disc golf community, with people accusing both sides of unsportsmanlike play.

So see if you can figure out what Climo tried to get a ruling on, that would have prevented a playoff.

Frizgolf can probably straighten out any of the details I have wrong.

Title: Re: Video of the day
Post by: Nate on June 25, 2007, 07:53:48 PM
Did he release the disc after he passed the 'line' where he was supposed to throw from?
Title: Re: Video of the day
Post by: rva on June 25, 2007, 08:01:55 PM
No.  But that would be a good guess, and the typical kind of thing that would require a ruling and something that happens a lot on jump putts.

The putt is good.  Something happens *after* the putt that is much more (arguably) trivial than that.  I mean, it happens WELL after the putt has already gone in the basket.

Title: Re: Video of the day
Post by: Ella Minnow Pea on June 25, 2007, 08:35:00 PM
He took the disc out of the basket?
Title: Re: Video of the day
Post by: Jonathan on June 25, 2007, 08:48:19 PM
That's what I was thinking. Either that, or he may have stepped on the other guy's disc while he was celebrating. There's two white things lying on the ground by the basket and I can't tell which is Climo's disc.
Title: Re: Video of the day
Post by: rva on June 25, 2007, 08:54:16 PM
Nope.

I'll just tell you since I'm not sure any sane person would really get it.  After he sinks the basket, and after he runs over and high fives some people in the crowd, and after he hugs the other dude..... he kind of spikes the disc.  Not even a victory spike but more of a "I can't believe I just did that!" kind of drop-flip.

Climo asked the judges for a ruling as to whether that counted as a throw of the disc and hence, a stroke.

Title: Re: Video of the day
Post by: Jonathan on June 25, 2007, 09:23:39 PM
I actually noticed that, and wondered if that was the grounds for appeal, but then I dismissed it as being absolutely ridiculous.
Title: Re: Video of the day
Post by: Dan on June 25, 2007, 11:40:06 PM
Yeah, I was thinking that you're not supposed to throw the disc down. But then I thought "it's the last hole" how can anyone care?
Title: Re: Video of the day
Post by: rva on June 26, 2007, 01:06:55 AM
Exactly.  I mean, I can see why you need a rule defining in somewhat anal terms what constitutes a throw because otherwise people will start saying "that didn't count."  But there's clearly no intent there for that to be a throw or anything near a throw.

Climo still had to putt so I could see getting irate over excessive celebration when you're trying to concentrate.  I think that's kind of uncool and I would have had some understanding if that was his beef.  And even then, I categorize that as more joy and celebration than trying to show someone up.  But the tossing of the disc?  There's no way that Leiviska's trying to throw a stroke there.  And at some point, I think competitors need to realize that when you enforce the rules as written to get a cheap win when that's obviously not the intent of the rule, you're still a dick.

Did you ever notice how in videos there's only four things to do with your arms?  I didn't.  Then I one day I decided to sort through my collection of boy band videos.  There were N'Sync and Backstreet Boys of course, but also LFO, 98 degrees, and Take That.  Does anyone remember LMNT?  I suppose not.

Anyway, for your convenience I've isolated the four basic arm positions necessary for boy band stardom circa 2000:

1) Arms as wide as possible, usually with pointing.  I suppose it comes in handy in your post- stardom career.  The exits are to the side and rear of the aircraft.

2) Arms down, crossed over crotch with wrist roll to emphasize point, often with pointing.  Do you notice a trend here?  There is a lot of pointing in boy band videos.  I just thought I'd point that out.

3)  Arms extended out directly towards camera, also usually with pointing.  Who, me?  Is it proper to point back, or is that just confusing?  I just make sure I always point towards the beach.  Even if I'm in Idaho.

4)  Point at your head.  And of course it goes without saying that is involves pointing.  I just don't see the point of all this pointing.

And that's it.  After you've gone through all three arm positions, you squat and then they cut to the next scene.

And speaking of squats, did you ever notice how people either squat or are already squatting in the videos, but you never see them get up?  You never see it.  Every once in a while you get an A-lister who works his way out of the conundrum with some sort of spin or twirl to get back upright, but I guess if you're LFO you don't have the moves.

Still, that's okay with me.  I love my boy bands, and I don't mind making a point about it.  I'll even squat if I have to.  If I can't get up, that's all right with me.  In fact, I like to think that somewhere out there on some boardwalk, LFO is still enjoying an eternal summer, avoiding the Chinese food and looking for girls with the Abercrombie and Fitch....

Except now they all wear Hollister.

For 60 Minutes, I'm Andy Rooney.

What makes it funny is that Matt Damon's actual presence.  Otherwise it's just Sarah Silverman standard schtick.  I guess I don't hate her, but her shock humor schtick has grown pretty old.

Yeah, now *that* was hysterical.  Talk about star  power, too.  Those were some random celebs, but I loves me Don Cheadle.  And Huey Lewis.

I count Harrison Ford, Brad Pitt, Macy Gray, Josh Groban, Lance Bass, Robin Williams, Camaron Diaz, Rebecca Romjin, Cristina Applegate, and Cameron Diaz.  Who else was in it?

I, too, am a Heart fan.  My dad played a lot of them.  He used to go to various concerts, take photos and sell them at places like Dingleberry's.

Somewhere in his archives, he has a stunning picture of Ann/Nancy (circa 1997?) going crazy.  It's a beautiful picture.

Just sayin... Nancy still looks pretty hawt for a nearly 55 year old broad.

Nancy Wilson's a great guitar player who is horribly underrated, but actually so is Roger Fisher.
They were just a really good band.  Unfortunately, they are not named "Led Zeppelin" and they are not Southern Rock which is all anyone cares about anymore.

If I had a magic "find and replace" anytime a classic rock station tried to play something from Led Zeppelin IV it would be replaced by something from Dreamboat Annie.  And anything from Led Zeppelin II would be replaced by something from Aerosmith's Toys in the Attic.

I mean, you've still got Led Zep III out there which no one listens to but should.  You've still got Houses and Physical Graffiti which are probably Led Zep at their peak.  And you've still got the classics from Led Zep I.  No one's taking away your precious "Get the Led Out" hour.

I'm merely suggesting that hey, wouldn't it be more interesting to hear Crazy On You instead of friggin' Four Sticks or Going to California for the 1,000,000,000th time in a month.

I'm a piss-taking bastard at the best of times, but I stumbled upon this footage a few minutes ago, and although I'm tempted to mock, it 's just 100% feel good. It's REM from the good old days, and the song's writer is up on stage with them. He may flap like a dork, but I think he's ever so cool, getting into his song with the then whippersnappers. Nice.

I loved when Ric Flair was the "World" Champion except he really wasn't at all and he'd say stuff like "I'm the best all over the world!  From Asheville to Richmond, Greensboro to Norfolk!"  Yeah, that just about covers the entire globe alright.

For whatever reason, I always liked Barry Wyndham the best out of the Four Horseman.  I have no idea why.  They were all completely boring except for the Man.  I also rooted for Ronny Hands of Stone Garvin and Duthty American Dream Rhodes even though they were even more bland.  Pretty much the Von Erichs sucked, too.  Harley Race was alright, I guess.  Come to think about it, Ric Flair pretty much carried the entire NWA.  He was the one guy I hated and yet kinda thought was cool.  He just looked like such a cock with that long blonde hair and the whoo! Custom-made. Head. To. Toe. suits.  Now he just looks like a somewhat dapper old dude.  David Flair's looking a little sloppy himself.

I also kind of hate that HBK ended his career because HBK has always sucked ass.  His whole gimmick is just like "I'm cool and sexy."  Which is just kind of stupid.  But I mean, he's not particularly cool looking or sexy.  Maybe early in the Midnight Rocker days.  Maybe.  It's HHH that really has taken Flair's gimmick and made it work pretty well.  Even to the extent everyone hates him because he controls the whole scene the way Flair did.

Also, I haven't watched wrestling since the Benoit thing.  And all I could think about that whole time was Benoit.  After all, he was a Horseman and probably would have been the active wrestler who went back furthest with Flair other than HBK.

We've seen stuff like this turn out to be a work over the years. Is this for real?

I haven't watched wrestling for a few years, but yeah, if that's for real, it's big. Only if it sticks, though. These guys don't know anything else, and once they're out of it for a while, they tend to end up back in. Personally, I'd have expected maybe a bit more pomp and circumstance, though. He's universally the most respected person in the industry. I figured there'd be more tearful speeches.

And why do wrestlers who retire usually go out on a loss? Never been able to figure that one out.

Partly out of a tradition of good-sportsmanship and partly out of practicality because the promoters need to create a star to replace you.

What better rub could you get than being the guy who ended Ric Flair's career?  Unfortunately, it went to HBK who neither needs nor deserves it.  And that's pretty much why the WWE sucks ass.

For some reason, I've been playing this track a lot over the past few days. The band never registered over here, and it's pretty throway and shouty as a song, but it always cheers me up a bit when I'm down in the dumps. I think it reminds me of 97x, Shit US Indie music and sunny days.

Lando and Wherle might like it, too.

Hah. I love me some Harvey Danger. I still have their first disc and listen on occassion.

Random: for some reason I always imagine Nate Shecky-poo to look/act a little bit like their lead singer does in that song. I've met Nate and know this isn't true, but it occurs to me nonetheless.

Random #2: I think they started out as a coverband... but I'm not sure who they covered. It was like two bands and only those two bands. Meat Puppets? Pixies? Something like that.

*After which it was replaced by Anita Ward's Ring My Bell.  Anita Ward's reign of terror was short-lived however, as my sister was no longer able to dominate me physically.

Some background - basically the dumpy Indian guy you see is putting on a huge front. He never wanted to be on The People's Court, so he dressed up in this goofy outfit and did what you see above. I recommend watching it a few times and asking out loud "What's the hardest part about being you?" Note how he has the answer ready before the announcer even finishes the question. Then you'll see how absurdly hilariously brilliant it is.

See, one thing about art... you have to be as talented as you think you are.

Like a lot of indie bands don't have that much musical "talent," but they're also not trying to sell 100 million records or take over the world with their artistic vision.  They just make a song they like, and hopefully you like it, too.  If not, you won't buy it.  That's why indie bands don't sell a lot.  They're not hitting any chords the average person can't hit.  It's just the average person doesn't find those chords particularly interesting.

Kanye West, on the other hand, has huge ambition and ego but the huge talent to back it up.

Just because you can write a decent song, doesn't mean you can sing it.  Just because you can sing it, doesn't mean you should try and create your own video.  And just because you want to create your video, doesn't mean you should also decide to act in it.  And just because you think you can act in your own created video for your song that you sing, doesn't mean that you are up to doing a period piece.

So anyways, what's weird about this guy is that he does have quite a bit of talent and creativity.  Just nowhere near as much as he thinks he does.  And that's what makes this video suck worse than the grainy super-eight you shot of your crap-ass garage band in high school.

Self-awareness.  He lacks it.

Here's the thing about that Chris Dane Owens video: it's gone viral to the point that he's been contacted by so many different types of media and entertainment conglomerates over this thing. If he capitalizes and moves quickly, getting his music and the video out to as many outlets as possible, he could stand to make the pretty penny he spent on the video back tenfold. People might joke on him, but despite the content of the video, he seems like he has a level head about it all, and might just laugh all the way to the bank.

I have to preface this...

The following video is a mashup of David Lee Roth's acapella of "Runnin' With The Devil" (which is funny by itself) as run through the new Microsoft Songsmith (http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/redmond/projects/songsmith/) software (basically autotune lite for creating your own songs from just a voice track).

This is the unfortunate result. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8kxqMpGAL3I) (1:35 - 1:50 is special)

I don't think he was interrogating him, he was just talking to the kid.  And I don't see an issue with filming it either, it was funny.  It's not like he drugged the kid up for the purpose of making the video.  The kid will find it funny one day.

We've recorded Julie's niece and nephew doing stuff that we know is stupid and funny, and encouraged them to make it better for the camera... I dunno, I don't think this is something to be angry about.  I think the kid had some kind of accident, the dad took him to the dentist and when they came out he realized the kid was loopy and he thought hey, I've gotta get this on tape, this is gold.  And he was right.

How do they talk whoever it was that lost into actually taking that role?

When I was in high school a group of friends wanted to have a silly medieval dinner themed party. It was fun assigning roles of kings and princes and jester's and such, but then when dinner was to be served there were no peasants or servants b/c no one wanted those roles.

Chiefly among the crabcore musician's repertoire of stylistic gestures is the crabwalk itself, from which the genre's title is derived. The crabwalk is identified by the player's extremely low stance, wherein both feet are set apart from one another as far as possible, while still allowing the player to maintain at least a 90 degree bend in his knees. While in the crab stance, the player then purposefully transfers the weight of his upper body between each leg, achieving a swaying motion intended to have a hypnotic, nauseating and baffling effect on audience members.

Other moves available to crabcore players include:

* The "Alaskan King"
* The "Peanut Skinner"
* The "Jørgenslam"
* The "Dirty Hamper"
* The "Pestal Press"
* The "Arch Carrier"
* The "Cock Duster"
* The "Squirrel"
* The "OrBenetiko v.II"

Another somewhat controversial move has gained a foothold in crabcore circles recently, which sees the player simply standing in one spot and running in place.

The most instantly recognizable signifier of a band within the crabcore oeuvre is the presence of an Arch Cancerped (literally translated; "chief crabwalker"). The Arch Cancerped (or ACP) is an individual member of the band whose duty it is to set the speed, intensity, and depth of the crabwalk in a given piece of music. Much like the conductor of a symphony orchestra. Typically the ACP wears a black t-shirt and has a dyed-black sideways haircut.

Possibly one of the most complex crabcore maneuvers, known as the "Talladega Bench Press", consists of all guitar players (including bass) lifting their instruments behind their heads, then bringing them back down in synchronized fashioned. You will be lucky to see more than one of these per show.

No, I'm dead serious.  For one thing I believe the phrase "va-jay-jay" requires a blow to the very same area.  And the fact that Jennifer Love Hewitt says it just enforces why I hate it.  She's the kind of person that would say it, and I hate that kind of person.

But even beyond that, she's just... talentless.  She has a big rack.  That's really all she's got going for her.  And she doesn't even have the whatever to say "Yeah, I'm here because of my big rack."  No.  She's all "I don't see what the big deal is." *flashes cleavage*.  I really DON'T see what the big deal is, which is why I don't need to see her cleavage or see her stupid face.

Then she put on weight and had the nerve to be all hurt like "Oh, it's a shame how we're judged by our appearances."  YOU DO COMMERCIALS FOR ACNE PRODUCTS.  Where would you be without people's stupid fascination with your melons?  You would be minus one top 40 hit and a bunch of movies.  And I would be minus several accumulated hours of torture listening to your crap song and watching your crap acting.

I will make that trade any day.  Keep the weight on.  You will have the weight of a regular person, and go back to a regular person lifestyle far away from my TV and radio.  If it works for you, it works for me.  She wrote a BOOK, for God's sake.  A book on dating.  A book on dating that apparently involves expensive spas and surrounding your privates with Swarovski crystal.  Because you know, she's not hung up on materialistic crap or appearances or superficial ways to feel good or anything like that.

The *only* reason I'd consider doing her is well... grudge fuck.  And that just wouldn't be cool at all.

Gah.

That photo does my head in every time I see it. It's awful. She's frightening.

I distinctly remember dining out with my wife a couple of years ago at a really nice newly opened restaurant in town. We were enjoying ourselves and the atmosphere was ok with some music playing quietly in the background. It wasn't too long after RVA showed the world how incredibly big his balls are for somehow managing to survive listening to her "cowboy" dirge for the torturethon. Well, midway through our meal (lunch, I think), the aforementioned cowboy song played in the restaurant, curdled everyone in the joint's wine, whereupon I instantly thought of RVA and at the same time had a vision of that very image you just posted, Poncho.

Bad as it is, I think I remember seeing a picture posted here of her with a sock puppet or something equally bonkers that's even worse, if memory serves.

Some podcasted show got in touch with the marketing agency's creators and broke down the commercial piece by piece. Surprisingly, the commercial is 80-90% non-computer generated trickery.

1 in 4 people admit to peeing in the pool.
The average urination is about 750ml.
Theres probably 3000ish people in that pool.
(3000/4)x750 = 562 liters of urine in that pool, or 148 gallons.

Rva, we saw that on the news the other night. My daughter got all "they need to save him!", I had to change the channel because it was making her more than a little upset (she's 5). I, however, thought it was hilarious--did they not plan the route ahead of time and by doing so know what to expect?
Title: Re: Video of the day
Post by: rva on December 09, 2010, 02:13:30 PM
The Christmas Parade is the same route every year, straight down Broad Street.

They did changed the lights on that intersection, but I think they did it prior to this year.  And I believe that the old lights would have presented the same problem.  They used to be traffic lights on a cable wire.  They just replaced them with the more modern horizontal pole.  And back in 1992, they snagged Gumby on a traffic light in the exact same parade and its still the same person in charge.

So I'm pretty sure they knew that the traffic lights would be a problem, they just screwed up trying to navigate around it.

The Portland fans are pretty passionate and remember the only other major professional sports team there is the Trailblazers in the NBA.  Here's a really good article about the history of the club, the fan base and soccer in the area in general.  It's got a nice bit about Clive Charles, who brought the University of Portland men's and women's soccer programs to national prominence and was fortunate enough to win a national championship with the women's team in 2002 before succumbing to the cancer he'd been fighting less than a year later.

I KNOW!!! Ugh. Get off the road, wait three seconds and it will go away. I am not a fan of snakes (the whole lack of legs disturbs me immensely), but I don't wish for them to get run over needlessly. They eat mice and things that are pests.

Seriously repulsed by that video.

Some guy put up these videos of classic contracts law cases that everyone had to learn in law school.  Only they are all set to music.  They're really funny if you went to law school, but maybe notsofunny otherwise.

The one in this video (Parker v Twentieth Century Fox Films) is somewhat famous outside of contracts law, so maybe you'll get some enjoyment out of it.

From Rembert Browne at Grantland. (http://www.grantland.com/blog/hollywood-prospectus/post/_/id/47855/coachella-2012-part-2-30-thoughts-on-surviving-the-festival)

"8. On The Rapture’s “How Deep Is Your Love?”

I’ve long enjoyed The Rapture, but not until seeing them live did one of their songs truly resonate with me. “How Deep Is Your Love?,” the standout track from 2011’s In the Grace of Your Love, could not be a more exciting dance track. Actually, as one to never shy away from hyperbole, it might be one of the better dance tracks I’ve ever heard performed live. Even at Coachella, it’s hard work to get everyone to dance uncontrollably. Four minutes in, between the clapping, jumping, and spinning that I (and everyone in the crowd) was doing, the thought I actually hope this never ends crept into my mind. Still bummed it did."

This past weekend I was a referee at an all-day kickball tournament. This tournament is "competitive kickball" and offers prizes in the low-to-mid thousands of dollars range, so there were some heated moments. I was the 1B ref for the Finals, and the biggest call we had to make was one that I wasn't sure we got right. Either two runs scored if it was a trap, or the inning is over if it is an out (IIRC). It had been kind of eating me up inside until this video was posted yesterday.

The 3B ref called it a catch. I called it a trap. The home-plate ref then had to make a decision to decide between us, and fortunately he went with my decision.

gTizDiT8K28

You can see me show up in the middle of video to tell the home plate ref what I saw, but honest there wasn't much to say. I didn't think I saw his hands/arms under the ball, so I called it a trap. It turns out that while this was mostly true, the call is reinforced in that he didn't have control after he rolls over. So I got a little lucky with the call, I suppose, but I don't care.

Yes, I just posted this to brag.

Also fun... about 30 seconds after the audio cuts out, I had to warn a player for running his mouth because he disagreed with the call. Too bad it was edited out. :)

Normally, I like Goldbergian kinds of contraptions, but that LEGO thing was too pointless for me.  Why are you picking up balls with a robotic arm and putting them in a basket and then putting the basket on a conveyor belt to move them a couple feet?  Balls are round.  They will roll easily down a ramp.

Yes, I realize that isn't really the point of the thing.

I can't believe that people actually talk like that.

However, as a Facebook shareholder I'm happy for "Instagram that joint!" to become part of the cultural lexicon.

they talked about that dude on npr today.  said when he landed in kazahkstan he had difficulty talking as he grew used to speaking with a tongue that didn't require gravity or something.  also floating around in space, he lost all the callouses on his feet so walking around was like walking on hot coals
