Oh, you're not alone.  The ravelry forums are chock full of folks that are snobby about "fibers".  For the most part the stuff we make is, a.) not for our own use b.) has to be inexpensive and c.) is for kids and needs to be durable/easily maintained so acrylic is perfect.  I personally can't stand natural fibers because of the itchy factor.  I dare not say that on ravelry.

If you like the Deerfield JoAnn store try to make it to the Dayton Mall location sometime... it's even bigger/better.

Yeah, I am probably not that snobby: I just hate the idea of wearing plastic I guess. :)

I was going to hit up that Dayton Mall location yesterday until I realized that no one was open on Easter. Not sure why I was so surprised by this: I guess I have never gone shopping on Easter before.

I was wondering if anyone has been to Hank, A Yarn Boutique on Observatory or Fiberge on 1407 Vine Street? I found some nice yarn (read: expensive) that is sold in either of these stores. I am struggling with picking out yarn for a baby blanket that I am making for a gift and I want something soft but not acrylic. I really don't want to spend an arm and a leg but not sure how to get around that (and not sure JoAnn will have the color choices, the other choice I found online was Lion Brand Baby Wool Yarn).

I'm a total acrylic junkie, because most of the things I make are going to be washed and not washed with care.  Or because I'm doing amigrumi, and I want tight stitches.  Oh, and I am cheap!

Kwyj, have you checked out the Best Examples of Acrylic Awesomeness page on ravelry?  There are some gorgeous things on there.  I look at it every time I go on Ravelry.

I have not seen those pages, VV, will have to look for them.  I don't frequent Ravelry at all... in fact, I mostly only go there when Julie wants me to see a pattern that she found.  For the most part I can find patterns without Ravelry and I find the snobbery in the forums hard to stomach.  Nice to hear that acrylic has defenders.. I'll definitely check them out.
