I didn't see a use to start a new topic for this, since i don't want to give away the review i should have done by week's end.  but, Mr. Thirt and i finally got to see the new HALLOWEEN today and were pleasantly surprised.  have you gotten to catch it yet, whigs?

Yep! We went on Saturday afternoon so we'd have the theatre to ourselves while everyone else was at the football game. I had no expectations that it would be the next Citizen Kane, so I just enjoyed it for what it was. I like some of the techniques Zombie tends to use in his storytelling -- not in the script per se, but in the way he tells the story through his directing style. For example, he might slip into black-and-white for a few seconds or suddenly go into slo-mo with some great classic song blasting in the background, adding to the mood and the moment. He uses a variety of things to paint the picture, and for the most part it works.

I had to giggle, though, during most of the scenes with his wife, Sherri Moon. She was great as Baby Firefly in his past films, but I think the character of Baby was pretty forgiving in that it lent itself to an over-the-top approach. In Halloween, though, and this is just my opinion, her portrayal of the mother was pretty flat -- even by horror movie standards. Yeah, she's still a hottie -- Zombie is always quick to show her off in his films (she's your muse, Rob, we get it already) -- but girlfriend is not much of an actress. Rob shore does love him some young girl titties, though, don't he?  ;)

I wonder what's up next for him. Anybody know?

I love Rob Zombie's directing style as well.  I look forward to anything he's done.  The only thing I've heard about for him is "The Haunted World of El Superbeasto", an animated movie.  Sounds pretty killer though.

yeah, i'm pretty sure that's all he has going on for right now, but it looks like it's going to be great.  they just recently cast all of the voices (including Sheri, of course) - including a surprising choice for Dr. Satan.

I can't remember what the address is for the official site, but google it and check it out.

It's ElSuperbeasto.com. I knew this was on tap (and that Giamatti had signed on to voice Dr. Satan), but I thought maybe it had been released already because the imdb showed it as "completed" with a release date of May 07. It will be the surprise of the century if it ever shows up on the big screen here.  :P

This is just a question for fun ...

What movie (horror or otherwise) do you think Rob Zombie should "re-tell" next (and why)?

(Again, this is just for fun. I'd prefer Zombie stick to primarily original stuff.)

Yah, I'd like to see something new from him as well.  I'm getting tired of all the remakes and there have got to be some new stories to tell.

That being said, I would think he could do a really good job of picking up the Spawn series or any other comic related horror franchise (Hellblazer?) and do it justice.  He has a good comic book sensibility.

His originals are better, but if he were to remake another film, he should redo Dawn of the Dead. That could be pleasantly awesome.
I think he could make it much bloodier and far more scary than the Romero version is.

Random note: I just went to "Zombie Fest" here in Seattle. They played 4 zombie films, one of which was called "Evil" and was from Greece. Anyone see that one? It was SO good.
