the new real estate release sounds pretty good, if you like the jangly guitar sound.
Yup, although I still like Atlas a little better (same sound, but more top-notch tunes).

This is the year of Glasgow bands coming to Raleigh, and I'm quite happy. First up is Franz Ferdinand on May 25 at the Lincoln Theater, which is about 800 person capacity mostly standing. Then Belle & Sebastian will be at the NC Art Museum outside stage on July 31. It's just two bands, but it's two bands I never thought would make it to Raleigh.

Elbow is touring, as well, so I'm headed to DC in November.

a darn shame that Elbow isn't coming anywhere close to Cincinnati...

The 9:30 in DC is a perfect venue for Elbow, Ella.

Ella, I notice that Real Estate is coming to Raleigh in May (at the Lincoln). You lucky girl! The closest they are coming to Cincy is the Forecastle Festival in Louisville in July (which I won't go). Still holding out hope for later in the year (they played MPMF a few years ago).

There are a few bands that you folks love that I will just never understand.  Elbow is one of them.

Elbow's okay.  I just feel like they aren't much different from Travis, Keane, or Coldplay.

I didn't really get it until I saw them live. Hearing Guy's voice in person is a beautiful experience.

I didn't like them when I first heard them.  They are still hit and miss for me, but the hits are like "top-20 favorite albums of all time" hits.  So that's pretty strong.

Julie had acquired an mp3 of "New Born" somewhere along the line and for a long time that was my basis of knowledge of them.  I find that one to be pretty "meh."  It's not lovable, but it's been on my iPod for twelve years or something at this point so I guess I like it that much.  When Build a Rocket came along I got that one (from Oink, I think) because some folks here were fawning over it, and I just couldn't even get through it.  WNKU is playing a newer single, and I don't care for it either.

Of the bands ZK mentioned earlier (Keane, Coldplay, Travis), Keane is the only one with any staying power for me.  I still listen to Under the Iron Sea fairly often.  That said, Tom Chaplin, the lead singer, put out a solo record recently and I found it to be boring as fuck.
