Torturethon Time: 2 hours, 43 minutes
Number of Listens: 33

Like last year, I took the day off from work today in order to put in my Torturethon time without distraction. So I'm just laying here on the couch ... laptop on my, well, lap... listening to REO Speedwagon on repeat ... 33 times so far ... yep ... a little less than 5 hours left to go ... at 4 minutes and 54 seconds, that'll be almost 100 listens total ... here on the couch ... listening ... on repeat ... while people are out there living their lives ... I'll just be laying here ... pondering many of life's mysteries ... like why Kevin Cronin's parents couldn't have opted for a sandwich instead of sex on the night he was conceived ... or why Neal Doughty couldn't have attended Northwestern University ...

Torturethon Time: 4 hours, 20 minutes
Number of Listens: 52

According to an anonymous source, the original chorus to "Can't Fight This Feeling" was:

Cause I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fighting for
And where I got this pus-filled open sore
Maybe last night behind the liquor store
From the dirty, skanky whore
Whose vajayjay wall was slightly tore
By a guy the day before
Baby, I can't feel my left nut anymore

Think again.

They must be into some serious religious buggery because an anagram of REO Speedwagon is....

"God, we open arse"

or maybe they're into cooking with bad spices, 'cos another is ...

"Spewed Oregano"

Trying to find entertaining information to post about REO Speedwagon is about as easy as trying to find entertaining information to post about a 3-bean salad. How does Kevin Cronin's wife not impale him on a stick while he sleeps?

Every time this song is played, an angel's wings are torn from its body by a griffin. And griffins are supposed to be guardians of all things divine! THAT'S HOW FUCKED UP THIS SONG IS!!!! IT TURNS GRIFFINS AGAINST ANGELS!!!! GAH!!!!

One time a friend and I decided that the solo in Keep on Loving You represented the quintessential 80's guitar solo.

I have no clue Can't Fight This Feeling Anymore represents.  Just a whole lot of crap, I guess.  I don't think Gary Richrath even takes a solo on it.

Perhaps I am not the best person to comment about REO Speedwagon. Perhaps it would be more fair for me to leave the comments to those who have so faithfully supported the band since their heyday in the seventies and eighties. Some may consider these people the ones to blame. I still blame the University of Illinois. Regardless, I should provide a more fair and balanced perspective of these talented fellows. After all, they didn't even make Blender's list of the 50 Worst Artists in Music History back in 2003 -- unlike Toad the Wet Sprocket, Primus, and Paul Oakenfold -- so REO can't really be that bad. Can they?

So I turn it over to the REO fans to enlighten me -- all of us, really -- about why REO Speedwagon is the right choice for smart music fans.

Wrote "Short and Fat" in his blog of the same name: "I'm no indie rocker. In fact I'm about as far away from indie rock as one can get. Open my cd player and be prepared to see the pop-rock likes of Bon Jovi, Styx, Chicago, and REO Speedwagon. Anyone that says they don't like to jam to these folks are just liars or retarded. It's a fact, look it up."

Right on.

Styx, Chicago and REO Speedwagon?  I'm sorry, that's not metro.  That's just gay.  And where's the love for Night Ranger?

An REO fan responds to a less-than-positive review of the band's latest album, Find Your Own Way Home.

"What in the blanking blank is wrong with you blanking blank idiots. This is the best reo record ever. You obviously didn't listen to it at all. 'I needed to fall' is the best ballad this band has ever done. Even the weekest song on this c.d. is better than any thing in the entire catologue of bands like; prince, red hot chili peppers, the police.van halen, nirvan, etc etc etc. and every band in the rock hall of fame. Wake up idiots, REO is the best band around now and for the last 25 years. In fact there hasn't been a better record from any one else released since the early 80's."

Indeed.
