77.  Circle the Soul Softly - Davida Wills Hurwin - pretty good book about adolescent PTSD, by the author of A Time for Dancing, which was made into a Lifetime-y movie starring Larissa Oleynik (I think that's her name) of Nickelodeon's Alex Mack fame.  I kept waiting for her to turn into a silver puddle and escape the cancer.

Ooo!  Jonestown books.  I wrote this ginormous research paper for my American Studies class in college on Jonestown and Jim Jones.  When I found out my freshman year college roommate's father was from Guyana, one of the first things I said to her was, "Jim Jones!  Jim Jones!  Did your dad know him?????"  (having been obsessed with Jim Jones for a long time before college).

I might have to check this out.

rbs, I also devour anything related to Jones and Jonestown. Can't recommend this book highly enough, even at its most distressing. Couldn't put it down.

Can't edited my previous post by phone, but I wanted to add that what made Layton's story even more compelling is that her mother and brother were also members, and her mother of a survivor of Nazi Germany. Surviving the Holocaust only to die in Jonestown was horrifying to me. The mother's life story was haunting.

I enjoyed the book because I have seen/can see the very same things happening at PLCH.  I think anyone who has worked in a public library could easily write such a book.  I found him to be very cynical early on in his career.  But he seems to have a dry sense of humor, which I appreciate.  I read some online reviews of people that think he's misogynistic, but I didn't see that at all.  What'd you think?

I didn't really care for it.  The stories were amusing and reminiscent of my days in public services, but I thought he was really snide and that was pretty off-putting.
