These days I pretty much just listen to:
The B.S. Report from Bill Simmons
Men In Blazers
Radiolab

When I'm out of new eps from them, for filler I rotate between
Doug Loves Movies
The Adam Carolla Podcast
Nerdist

Comedy Bang! Bang!
Doug Loves Movies
How Did This Get Made?
WTF
Nerdist (when they have a guest I care about, which is rarely)
Never Not Funny (same)
This American Life

An hour drive each way every day calls for some entertainment when I'm not listening to satellite radio.

I just got caught up on SERIAL and it is sooooooooooooo good.
I can't wait until the next episode!!!!
Put it in your ears or holler at me and let me know if you're totally into this too.

I'm a SERIAL fan too!  I listen to it on my way in to work on Friday mornings.  Love it, although I fear that because it's still a work in progress, and real, that we all expect it to be tied up nicely like a CSI episode or something, but there's no way they can deliver such a definitive conclusion.

Agreed, Slow-Dog.  I enjoy the show immensely, I've listened through the entire series (the first 9 anyway) a couple of times now and I just can't see it being wrapped up neatly.  Too much time has passed, too much is missing, and too many people are not talking anymore.

I pretty much subsist on podcasts, mostly public-radio-affiliated. The ones I consider essential are marked with asterisks.

WNYC: On The Media*, Radiolab*
WBEZ: This American Life*, Serial*, Sound Opinions
NPR: Fresh Air*, Planet Money*, Weekends on All Things Considered, Snap Judgment, Tiny Desk Concerts, Studio Sessions, Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me!
PRX: 99% Invisible*, The Truth, The Moth
Nerdist Industries: The Thrilling Adventure Hour*, Sex Nerd Sandra, The Nerdist (same as Butter: when they have a guest I care about, which is rarely)
Indie: Sodajerker On Songwriting

New podcast for 2015 co-hosted by Lulu Miller and Alix Spiegel, who helped create Radiolab and This American Life

I had a crush on Lulu Miller's speaking voice for years. :)

On their 5 year anniversary podcast, the Nerdist guys said POOLIO like 3-5 times. It gave me the giggles.

We actually had Lulu Miller over last year, when we hosted a little literary event and she was one of the participants. Cool person. She passed around printouts which explained the Danish concept of hygge; I still have one here on the coffee table because it's such a nice sentiment.

I must be turning into my dad, as I have found myself gravitating towards these podcasts of late:

S-Town (which is only good if you can tolerate the main character... which you will know after the first episode)
Crimetown (1st season about Providence, RI... the rise and fall of Buddy Cianci and the Patriarca crime family)
Criminal (shorter format about random crimes and/or the people or concepts behind them)
In the Dark (1st season about abduction of Jacob Wetterling in Minnesota in the late 80's, the police's botching of the case and larger societal implications thereof)
Lore (shorter format about mythical and supernatural happenings both past and present... but mostly LONG past)

All have very high production values... I have tried a few others with not as great production values and it's easy to spot when someone is doing it as a hobby vs. professionally.  Have found myself more interested in listening to these longer form stories over several parts lately for whatever reason.  Next thing you know I'll be watching NCIS and Law and Order: SVU (if those are still even things).

And I still never listened to Season 2 of Serial, so I'll probably get back to that at some point.

Butter, you'll probably like Accused, which was done by the Cincinnati Enquirer.  It's in the same vein as Serial, though not as well produced.  My friend Andrew (Readymaid keyboardist) did the music.

Serial season 2 was odd.  Good, but nothing like the first season, and not as engrossing.  Definitely a bizarre story, mostly because that guy is friggin' nuts.

Yup, I listen to most of the episodes, but skip the ones about marshal arts.

So my favorites are mostly comedy with a little news mixed in so I at least know what is happening around me.

Comedy: Point vs Point, Dumb People Town, The Dollop
News, Discusssion: No Agenda, DH Unpluggged, The Rubin Report
Informational: Here We Are, Congressional Dish, Say Why To Drugs
Old Time Radio: This Day In Jack Benny, Our Miss Brooks, X Minus One

That is only 12 of the 32 I am subscribed to right now. I listen mostly at work or when driving on road trip. If I had to name an absolute favorite it would have to be The Dollop.
