Lear Jet Crash - Early Reports
« on: September 20, 2008, 09:27:01 AM »

Just woke to breaking news of a lear jet crash in Columbia, S.C. The jet was headed to California following a concert last night.

Early reports say 6 on board -- 2 have survived but are critically injured. They are Travis Barker from Blink-182 and DJ A.M.

The remaining four on board are fatalities. No names released yet.

I Googled the event to see who else was there. Again, there is no news about whether the other listed performers were on the jet -- but they are Perry Farrell and Gavin DeGraw.

Many more details to come throughout the day, I'm sure.

Sorry, just realized "learjet" is one word.

Anyway, federal officials saying 2 fatalities were passengers and 2 were crew.

A rep for Gavin DeGraw is saying he was not on the plane.

No news yet about Perry Farrell.

Names have been released for 3 of the 4 fatalities: pilot (who is the female fatality), co-pilot, and a man named Chris Baker.

L.A. Times is reporting Ferrell wasn't on plane.

Recovery from critical burn injuries can be horrible. Hope both come through it okay.

Just saw the late news - the 4 dead were the pilot, copilot, a bodyguard (chris baker), and travis barker's personal assistant.

Just read an AP report quoting the doctor at the Georgia burn center as saying that Barker and DJ AM (Adam Goldstein) are being treated for second- and third-degree burns, and that recovery can take as long as a year.

The doctor said Barker was burned on his torso and Goldstein was burned on his hands and part of his head. The doctor says both men are still in critical but stable condition.

Both men have been released from the hospital. Travis Barker was released this morning and is believed to be heading back to his home in LA.

I'm not trying to be funny...but, I wonder if someone is driving them back? I can't imagine getting back on a plane so quickly after surviving something like that. Also, does anyone know if it's harder to recover from serious burns when you have tattoos on the burned areas?

It just ruins your tattoos - where ever he was burned, he will no longer have visible tattoos.  The second crappy part is, most tattoo artists will not touch scar tissue.  So, I imagine Travis is still going to be bummed once it all heals.

I bet he can't wait 'til he gets home to pass the time in his room alone.

Seriously though, I always liked Blink-182.  Good power hooks, just really well-crafted songs.  Always liked Barker's drumming too.  Thought they felt well with the band-- whether it was the lyrics or the vocals or the drums, they were standard pop on the surface but there was always a little more going on than you thought.  People might not have heard it, but they felt it.  I think that's one reason they were so popular.

If I recall from one story, Travis is/was actually afraid of flying to begin with.  When they were taken to the hospital, they had sent a helicopter, and only DJ AM would go on it.  Travis refused.  Not sure that I would have been able to get on the helicopter either.

The news story I read said that Barker is returning home by bus. DJ AM was released earlier and I'm not sure how he traveled home.
