RBS, Suzie is a longtime friend of my family's. My parents and her parents ("Aunt Helen" and "Uncle Bob") were very, very close friends. :)

All this book talk has me itching to chime in on this thread, so I'll give it a go.

So far, for this year...

2) Scarecrow Gods - Weston Ochse

Currently reading:

Wow!  Small world.  I thought her book was excellent, and I'm looking forward to reading the 2 sequels.  It was heartbreaking and hopeful at the same time - a hard combo to muster.  I never thought I would care about some camels so much.

Quote
1 Jaff Kalis - I Want to Take You Higher: The Life and Times of Sly and the Family Stone
2 Vicki Myron - Dewey - The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World
3 Hugo Wilcken - 33 1/3: David Bowie's "Low"
adding
4 Edwin Page - Horribly Awkward - The New Funny Bone
If this is what passes for writing a book these days, then I should write a book. The author has watched a few episodes of comedy shows on TV and constructed a tome about how 'cringeworthy humour' is the new rock & roll... or some such nonsense. The book is split into *ahem* definitive articles on the awkwardness shows such as "The Office" or "Little Britain" contain.  Unfortunately 'memorable' skits are given a name but not described, co-star names are mentioned with no reference points and everything feels merely culled from other articles and books on the subject matters. It all comes across as no more than a badly edited wikipedia entry.

Finally getting on the board in 2009!

1. Twenty Thousand Roads: The Ballad of Gram Parsons and His Cosmic American Music, David N. Meyer

Dense 500-page bio-tome about a haunting, complicated soul. Took all of January to get through it -- not because it was boring or poorly written -- quite the contrary -- but because I wanted to soak up every word of the Southern Gothic tragedy spanning generations well before and after Parsons' brief life. A brilliant read. Worth every second of the time it took to read it.

I'm almost positive I won't reach 50, but I'll give it a whirl anyway.

1.  Idiot Girls' Christmas: True Tales From the Top of the Naughty List by Laurie Notaro
2.  Our Iceberg Is Melting!  by John Kotter

My boss has just assigned an entire library of motivation books to me, so my list should fill up pretty well this year.
