1. Glasvegas / Angela McCluskey @ Bowery Ballroom, NYC 01/06/09
2. Ida Maria @ Mercury Lounge, NYC 01/15/09
3. Passion Pit / Paper Route @ Bowery Ballroom, NYC 02/04/09
4. Beirut / Kaki King @ Brooklyn Academy of Music, Brooklyn, NY 02/07/09
5. The Morning Benders / The Submarines / Dawn Landes @ Mercury Lounge, NYC 02/10/09
6. White Rabbits / Holly Miranda @ Mercury Lounge, NYC 02/18/09
7. French Kicks / Pomegranates @ The Bell House, Brooklyn, NY 02/21/09
8. Pela / Holly Miranda @ Mercury Lounge, NYC 03/10/09
9. Ladyhawke / Hearts Revolution @ Bowery Ballroom, NYC 03/24/09

A pretty good time. I love Ladyhawke's sound, even if it is a bit cheesy and poppy. Hearts Revolution was, on the first song, mesmerizing and by the third song absolutely awful. The girl was cute and had this energy about her, but then after the initial "hey, what's this?" you realize she's just shouting and screaming over some electro-beats and most of it is absolutely painful to the ears. Partly because of her ethnicity but also partly b/c of her sound ... she reminded me of a terrible version of Chibbo Matto.

Also... there was a fire about three buildings away. Like, seriously. The headliner was running late (no surprises there) but then after about 15 minutes of restlessness a voice comes over the PA and talks about how there is a fire in the neighborhood and they have spoken with the fire chief and things seem to be under control but they were holding off on the gig for a few more minutes just in case. He mentioned how they would turn back on the A/C when they got the go ahead to help blow out some of the smokey smell that was permeating the room. And when I left an hour later there were about 10 firetrucks and 5 EMTs and a whole bunch of police cruisers all blocking off the block. VERY surreal.

When I got home and took my clothes off they smelled like I'd been out camping.

Yeah, I think so. No one in the club was hurt. I have no idea if there were any casualties or anything in the building that was on fire, though. I forgot to check the Times to see if there was anything noteworthy.

Thee Emergency is a lot of fun. I saw 'em a year or so ago at The Sunset when a person I went to high school with's touring band was opening the show. Other than Joy Wants Eternity, they are my favorite non-famous Seattle-based band. Of course I'm biased to JWE because I played in a few bands with their organ/guitar/bass player in high school and college and we're good friends. It's odd that we've both ended up in Seattle from our small Indiana town.

1. Earth/Sir Richard Bishop/James Blackshaw @ Tractor Tavern [Feb. 26th]
2. Parenthetical Girls/No Kids @ Sunset Tavern [Mar. 12th]
3. The Minus Five @ Tractor Tavern [Mar. 13th]
4. Eugene Mirman/John Wesley Harding @ Tractor Tavern [Apr. 1st]
5. Richard Buckner @Tractor Tavern [Apr. 25th]
6. Joe Locke Quintet/Corey Christiansen Quartet @ Nordic Heritage Museum [Apr. 25th]
7. Ben Lee @ Nectar Lounge [May 6th]

Speaking of The Sunset, stop by there as I have given them a gift of a picture I took of Monotonix last summer at their venue.
