A hole-in-the-wall place in a shopping center.  Pretty typical fare for one of these kinds of places.  The lunch special soup was basically chicken broth, and nearly flavorless at that.  The spring roll was fine, probably from Costco or somesuch.  My entree of Drunken Noodle Chicken was pretty good.  Somewhat spicy, but not nose-blisteringly so.  The veggies were quite good, the noodles were done well, and the chicken didn't have that odd chicken-y flavor you get from time to time.  It had the good chicken-y flavor.   -1 point for being served Diet Coke in a can with a glass of ice.  Buy a frickin' soda machine. -1 point for the dining room being at no more than 62 degrees.  It was frickin' freezing in there!

1. Spoon - 01/10/09 - Marietta Street - Atlanta, GA
2. The Southern Skillet - 01/11/09 - Roswell, GA
3. Gondolier Pizza - 01/23/09 - Kennesaw, GA - Another meh. GREAT fried zucchini but the chicken parm sandwich was just so-so. The french fries were terrible and the pickle was ICKY! But, The Greg loved his calzone. I'm sure we'll never go back since I can get better pizza and calzones at the Mellow Mushroom.

8. Blackfinn - 2/3/09 - Seventh St., Cincinnati - "Upscale" bar food - 6

This place is overpriced, but does have lunch specials.  I had a large salad, the Chef I want to say... or the Cobb?  Something like that.  It was pretty standard.  The decor is nice, and the service was very good.

Hey, be sure to drop your business card off at Blackfinn's hostess station. If yours is drawn your company is "business of the month" or something like that, and all employees have to do is show an ID card or business card they get 20% discounts for the entire month.

Just FYI, restaurant week in Dayton has been extended throughout this Friday, due to last week's weather.  I'll be heading somewhere tonight!

Yeah, Kroger was company of the month for January or something, so that's how the guy we went with was introduced to the place.

No, I can't convince any of my co-workers to join me.  One day, I will just go and buy one and bring it back.  They look really good.

1. Flavors Eatery in Centerville, Ohio.

2.  Pacchia in Dayton, Ohio (Oregon District)
This isn't a *true* first, per se, as I'd been in their cafe and to their bar for cocktails - but I'd never eaten there.
This was one of the MVRA joints participating in the extension of Restaurant Week. During this event, local restaurants boast a special menu of three course meals for $20.09.

First impression of service was very good.  The hostess took us to a small table near the window, and was happy to oblige when I asked if we could sit further from a cold window and the only child in the restaurant.  She gave us our pick of any open table, so we picked a quieter one near the inside wall.

Water, along with bread & oil were quickly brought to our table and we were given just enough time to peruse the menu before our server came back. We both got the same thing - 5th street salad, NY strip w/ smashed potatoes and garlic green beans, red velvet cake, adding a wine flight with dinner (this was $12 extra).
Salads came quickly, but didn't actually meet the menu's description.  It was supposed to have cherry tomatoes (one), goat cheese (a tiny crumble), crispy pancetta (absent), pine nuts (absent) and pommes frites (plentiful).  But, it was still edible - though it was mostly just mixed greens tossed in a vinaigrette.
Entrees came quickly, steaks were cooked just as we'd ordered them, but were much smaller than I was expecting. The food was a bit banquet fair for that type of restaurant - but I get the feeling dishes are dumbed down and churned out during restaurant week.  So, maybe it's not the best representation.  But, I'm glad I wasn't paying regular menu price for the stuff if that's how it always comes out.

My only real complaint is the length of time that lapsed between when our dinner plated were cleared and our dessert and port arriving, about 10-15 minutes.

3 out of 5 sporks.

6. Azuri Cafe - 51st and 10th Ave, NYC - Middle Eastern

We heard this place had the best falafel we could get outside of Israel. Or something like that. Anyway, I'm not much of a mid-eastern connoisseur but I have to say this place was deeelish. Of course, I recommend going there sometime when the temperature is above, say, 55 degrees since we ate with our coats on and it seemed like they had no heat at all. Afterwards I went home, climbed into my bed and shivered, with my clothes on, for the next hour just to warm up. But the food is the important part and I dug it.

I wonder if the no-heat thing is common with Middle Eastern restaurants? There's one by my office which is the chippity, but damn it's cold in there. I usually opt to get food to go rather than try to eat with my gloves and coat on.
