R.I.P. Indie 103.1
« on: January 16, 2009, 03:51:41 PM »

Well, Indie 103.1 in LA is no more.  Today it was replaced with (YET ANOTHER) Spanish language, Mexican music station.  Indie was around for about 5 years, and it was one of the only listenable stations here.  We still have KCRW, and that's about it!

Guess I will definitely be renewing my XM subscription now (even if it sucks since Sirius took over)

I was amazed at how many spanish language Mexican stations there were in Texas when we were down there.  It was literally like 3 to 1.

crap!  I liked that station better than KCRW.  Jonesy always had great guests that no one else had!

edit: going internet only - but no Jonesy's Jukebox:

Rolling Stone had named it the best station in the U.S. and it was known for its midday show, Jonesy's Jukebox, hosted by Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols, which is not migrating to the web version. Jones has had discussions about expanding the two-hour program elsewhere

Have you tried Slacker? There are apps for Blackberry and iPhone, so if you have one of those, you wouldn't need to buy a Slacker portable to take your music with you. Only trouble with the iPhone app is that iPhone won't cache stations like the Slacker portable (and Blackberry) does. Gotta listen in real time to the web player version, thus chomping battery life.

Exactly.  That's why I don't care that Indie 103.1 is still an internet station.  If I'm listening to Internet radio, it's going to be WOXY.  I just liked Indie for the car trips.

No DJs on Indie 103, but the playlist should be more eclectic than in recent years when it was terrestrial.

I listened to Indie 103 online for a while when woxy was off the air and internet. It wasn't bad but I was frustrated by Jonesy's show. When he was speaking it was a much lower volume than when the music was playing. I found myself constantly messing with the volume so I didn't disrupt my fellow workers. As it was I didn't really get to enjoy his show. Maybe I'll give Indie 103 another try since I'm currently blocked from woxy.com at work...........
