1. District B13
2. Big Fan
3. Departures

4. Julie & Julia - pleasant little picture... and I agree with everyone here about the Julia half being better than the Julie half.

New-to-me movies are bolded.

1. Up In the Air
2. Bottle Rocket
3. The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus  I could have used a little bit more exposition, but visually amazing.

4. The Hangover Funny, but Bradley Cooper's character was annoying. Would have been better in the theater

Films watched for the first time in Bold

1 Sherlock Holmes
2 Team America: World Police
3 Mars Attacks!
4 Paranormal Activity
5 In the Loop
Wonderfully scathing look at UK and USA small fry politics in the build up to the invasion of Iraq. The high-speed snappy script offers more profanity and insults than several seasons of South Park combined. Insults I admit I may be personally using for years. Even Steve Coogan doesn't ruin it. Please DO watch the outtakes on the DVD for even more sweary laughs. Hugely recommended.
6 The Invention of Lying
Proof that when you're hot you're not necessarily always boiling. Ricky Gervais serves up a clunky dud of a movie that despite a fabulous premise - and a clever first act - falls into the weak and feeble category by the time the credits roll. Supporting actors - and there's some big names here - are wasted in a story that can't decide if it wants to be a religious allegory or a comedy farce. Disappointing.

1. A Boy Named Charlie Brown- "Owning 10% of Charlie Brown is like owning 10% of nothing!"
2. Crazy Love- Documentary about a guy who threw acid on a former girlfriend's face, blinding her.  Pretty interesting.
3. Wristcutters: A Love Story- Quirky little story.  Liked it a lot.
4. District 9- Liked this a lot.  Pretty different.
5. The Maiden Heist- Morgan Freeman, Christopher Walken and William H. Macy.  Very cool quirky indie-type film.  Don't know if this just got a limited release or we just weren't paying attention, but this was really good.
6. Julie & Julia-  LOVED the Julia stuff, didn't care one way or the other about the Julie stuff.  Meryl Streep really can do anything.
7. The Rare Breed- Jimmy Stewart, Maureen O'Hara, and Juliet Mills.  Brian Keith plays what has to be one of the inspirations for Groundskeeper Willie
8. Cover Girl- Rita Hayworth and Gene Kelly.  Pretty cute, if predictable.  Phil Silvers and Gene made the movie.  Rita was just the pretty face.
9. Big Fan- Um...good, but creepy. Sports Obsession taken to the extreme. Patton Oswalt was really good in this.
10. Zigfield Follies-  You have let me down Turner Classic Movies!  Let me down!  Somehow hearing that William Powell was "playing" Zigfield made me think that this was a movie about the follies, not a bunch of folly skits....sketches...whatever.  They were okay and all, especially the Astaire/Kelly number, but not what I was in the mood for.  Guess there OTHER movie where William Powell plays Zigfield is the movie about the follies.

1. Sherlock Holmes - 5
2. Up in the Air - 9
3. Inglorious Basterds - 9

4. The U - 5

Miami Hurricane players are just as annoying now as they were in the 80's.  Some interesting bits about Jimmy Johnson and such, but that's about it.

5. Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny - 4

Even if you like Jack Black, just don't.  The first 40 minutes were decent, then it all went downhill, even with Tim Robbins showing up as a slow-moving Eastern European maimed guitarist.

6. Julie & Julia - 7.5

Less Julie, more Julia kthxbye.

7. The Informant! - 6

Matt Damon was about the only reason to watch this.  His character is the worst informant in the history of informants, and there is some mileage to be gained from it... but it drags too much towards the end, and I probably wanted to strangle his character to death more than the FBI agents he screwed did by the time it all wraps up.

7 The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
This was a lot better than I thought it would be. I read the short story several decades ago and, like many others, felt it to be almost unfilmable so had steered clear of it... until I happened across it in the return cart at the library earlier today. Visually it was utterly beautiful, so all credit to the cinematographers and David Fincher's direction. However, I felt the dialogue and the acting to be lacking and the length unwieldy.

Every so often a film comes along that blows your tiny little mind. This is such a film. Absolutely tip-top bollocks.
