Intrigued by this documentary's appearance at the Art Museum, thinking it would represent some kind of a reworking of Koyaaanisquatsi. Instead it was a somewhat boring, poorly edited statement, wholly based on one photographer's interpretation of what we're doing to our world. Maybe I wasn't in the right mood?
17 St Trinians
What the fuckity fuck were Rupert Everett and Colin Firth thinking when they signed up for this great big pile of plop?

1. Sherlock Holmes - 5
2. Up in the Air - 9
3. Inglorious Basterds - 9
4. The U - 5
5. Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny - 4
6. Julie & Julia - 7.5
7. The Informant! - 6
8. Youth in Revolt - 6.5
9. The Business of Being Born - 4
10. Food, Inc. - 9
11. Taking Woodstock - 7.5

12. Terminator Salvation - 4.5

It was like they were trying to make the most serious movie in the history of mankind.  Everybody was so into it.  Except me.  I thought the plot was actually decent, but I still haven't really figured out why John Connor is the only person around who can save humanity.  I figured this movie would tell me why, but it didn't.  Hell, humanity didn't even beat the robots in this one, we just sort of caused a minor annoyance which increased production at another plant could easily sidestep.  Damn robots.

5. The Invention of Lying
6. Moon
7. Michael Jackson's This Is It
8. Fletch
9. I'm Gonna Git You Sucka
10. Manufactured Landscapes

Ever wondered where recycled computers go? Given a thought to what Chinese assembly lines are like? Where ships go when they aren't useful anymore? This film provides the backdrop and set-up for many of Edward Burtynsky's most famous photographs of industrial landscapes. A very powerful - if somewhat loosely edited- film.

11. St. Trinian's School for Bad Girls

School girls take on the establishment to save their school. Silly, and it has Russell Brand in it, which further lowers the standard.

New-to-me movies are bolded.

1. Up In the Air
2. Bottle Rocket
3. The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus  I could have used a little bit more exposition, but visually amazing.
4. The Hangover Funny, but Bradley Cooper's character was annoying. Would have been better in the theater
5. Avatar 3-D version.  As has been stated before, so pretty
6. The House Bunny It didn't suck. And was way more conservative/traditional than I would have expected.
7. Keeping Mum Maggie Smith plays a psychopath, Rowan Atkinson plays a normal person, and Patrick Swayze plays a sleazy golf pro.
8. Tin Man Sy-fy mini series redoing "The Wizard of Oz".  Stick to the original, as Zooey D. is annoying and Alan Cumming is underused.
9. The Talented Mr. Ripley Who knew you could feel sympathy for a psychopath?
10. When in Rome Cute, predictable, and snappier than expected.

11. Gods and Monsters very quiet film, and interesting look at the director who created Frankenstein and Showboat.

19 The Damned United
Another bravura perfomance by Michael (Tony Blair/ David Frost) Sheen cements this story about England's most famous football manager, Brian Clough. I was a football-mad teenager when the saga of his brief and disastrous 44-day reign of Leeds United was taking place and whilst I was aware of the vague circumstances surrounding the story, I had no idea of the bitter feud that existed between Clough and Leeds' former manager, Don Revie. It's amazing to remember that football used to be like this, a period in the seventies when the 'beautiful game' was still beautiful... before corporate interests and vast sums of money took it over and diluted it forever. This is a nicely executed movie based on one of the best sports books ever written. Recommended.

15. SHUTTER ISLAND - 02/24/10 - AMC Pkwy Point with Victor - 2 out of 5 - I think that DiCaprio is AMAZING in this film but the movie itself was way too long and didn't deliver. Great beginning and then it meanders and dies.

Movies seen in 2010 (new movies in bold):
1. G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra
2. Wall Street
3. National Treasure

4. Die Another Day
5. She's The One
6. XXX
7. The Girl Next Door
8. Fanboys
9. Garden State
10. The Book of Eli
11. Replacement Killers
12. Stripes
13. Star Wars
14. The Empire Strikes Back
15. The Dark Knight
16. Batman Begins

I think I'm the only person in the world who feels this way... but I think Batman Begins is a better movie than The Dark Knight. It has better character development, it has more Bruce Wayne, less (although it's there) of that annoying CG voice he uses in the Batman suit, more "believability", a hotter Rachel Dawes, more accessible esoteric theories about how to save the world, and I find it's just more fun to watch. The Dark Knight is awesome, yes, but I think the first one is criminally underrated.
