Just like in the real world you have your doubts about Tony Blair... or is it David Frost? Aside from the Journey thing in the arcade scene, MK loved this unbelievable CGI-fest. I, however, thought it to be utter pants. The music was about the only good thing about it for me. I also think that's well and truly 'my lot' as far as 3-D movies are concerned. Those uncomfortable glasses over my own for 2 hours, tightly gripping the sides of my fat head does not for a pleasant movie experience make.

F*cking Journey is the BANE of my existence. Of all the 80's songs on that damned jukebox, it had to be Journey.

As for the movie, I enjoyed most of it (excepting the jukebox in the arcade) but I don't think it is worth shelling out for the IMAX 3D version.

1. Nowhere to run.
2. Godzilla (told the kiddo "It's just a cheesy monster movie", she kept asking me "So are the monster's legs made of cheese?")
3. The mask
4. Mrs. Pettigrew lives for a day.
5. The fifth element
6. Kindergarten cop
7. Nanny McPhee
8. The lion, the witch, and the wardrobe
9. Prince Caspian
10. Magnificent Obsession (1935) - Thank you Criterion Collection!
11. 27 Dresses
12. Indiana Jones and Raiders of the Lost Ark
13. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom - Willie is one of the most annoying female characters EVER.
14. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
15. Sherlock Holmes - We enjoyed it well enough, the slo-mo bits were a bit annoying. I enjoyed Jude Law much more than Robert Downey Jr. The trailers for Iron Man 2 and Clash of the Titans were pretty freaking sweet though.
16. Indiana Jones and the crystal skull (or whatever the full title is) - Meh, it broke up the robotech marathon.
17. Driving Miss Daisy
18. Monsters vs. Aliens
19. Beavis & Butthead do America
20. Star Wars: a new hope
21. Empire strikes back
22. Return of the Jedi
23. Ultimate Avengers
24. Buckets of Blood (Steve had never seen it)
25. Clash of the Titans - Oh Lisa Rinna, would you have married Harry if he had remained prettier than you?
26. Black Cadillac - I am convinced this movie is what made Randy Quaid go off the deep end.
27. Lady & the tramp
28. The little mermaid
29. Avatar
30. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
31. GI Joe: rise of the cobra
32. Tinkerbell and the great fairy rescue
33. Barbie: A fashion fairytale
34. Gamera
35. Iron Man 2
36. Edward Scissorhands - God I love this movie.
37. Big trouble in little china.
38. Hercules vs. the moon men. Steve Reeves in all his cheesy glory.
40. Goulies
41. Nightmare before Christmas
42. Toy story 3
43. How to train your dragon
44. The legend of the bonenapper (the bonus dvd with how to train your dragon)

45. Scott Pilgrim vs. the world. I enjoyed the bloopers way more than the actual film. This made my husband sad but I am okay with it.
46. Meet me in St. Louis

101. SPREAD - On Demand - Hello, Margarita Levieva! Where have you been all of my life?
102. EL CANTANTE - Blockbuster Online - The look of the movie is gorgeous. Loved the translation of the lyrics during some performance scenes. Better than I thought.

110. 127 HOURS - 12/17/10 - AMC Barrett Parkway 24 - 4.5 out of 5 - It'll stick with you for a while. Not the "cutting off his own arm" scene. The whole film. The experience. Awesdome Danny Boyle camera tricks and POVs. LOVED.
111. TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN - 12/18/10 - HBO HD - 0 out of 5 - I stopped paying attention and played ANGRY BIRDS while The Greg watched this. I owed him one for ALICE CREED.
112. BOTTLE SHOCK - 12/19/10 - STARZ - 3.5 out of 5 - I enjoyed the story and that was enough to carry the movie. Rickman was fantastic.
113. SUNSHINE CLEANING - 12/18/10 - Cable - 3.5 out out of 5 - Better than I thought it was going to be. Adams was great.

40. Dumb & Dumber
41. A Single Man - I was really looking forward to seeing this and ended up being extremely disappointed. I found the use of color as symbolic as grossly heavy-handed and at no point did I care what happened to any of the characters. Now I will grant that the topic of suicide is very distasteful to me which may have influenced my opinion, but I think it was more a result of a very thin plot. Ughh, and what a contrived ending. Just ridiculous. I really don't understand why it was such a critic favorite. The only explanation I can think of is that he is portraying a gay man. You change the character to a straight man or woman and all of a sudden you just have some shit Lifetime movie.

69. Tron (in 3D!!!) - 4

We spent the extra $3 each for 3D, but wouldn't go another $2.50 for the IMAX version.  I regretted paying the extra almost immediately, as the immersion into Tron's world was completely non-existent for me.  Frankly, the contrast between dark and light just made my eyes hurt for the 100 minutes we spend inside the game.  I thought the 3D was either badly done, or did nothing to enhance the atmosphere.  I think this was well and truly my last 3D movie experience, unless circumstances force it somehow.  Not worth the extra $12 for the whole family.

As far as the movie goes, does it really matter about the rest?  This was almost entirely about the visuals and the game, and only somewhat about some jibberish having to do with Jeff Bridges' double and the portal and ending the game for good.  I thought the Bridges double animation was really well done, but still just the teensiest bit off in the facial expressions.  The story was near incomprehensible, but I guess in the end it was what tipped this into a "wish I hadn't spent $46 on this" experience (although $40 was from a gift card from my underlings at work... thanks, ladies!).  I was falling asleep during the Jeff Bridges-meets-his-son part, and only the flashing lights could bring me back.

It was the most boring giant action epic I've ever seen.

70. Christmas Story - 3

No, not A Christmas Story, just Christmas Story.  This was a movie from Finland on the Netflix queue that supposedly told the story of how a boy named Nicholas came to be Santa Claus.  In actuality, it contains mostly bad acting, bad voice acting (on the overdubbing... no subtitles on this for some reason), and giant plot holes.  Just don't bother.  At least it was short, but it wasn't good.  Speaking of A Christmas Story...

71. ClarkWORLD - 6

A documentary about Bob Clark, the director behind A Christmas Story.  And Porky's.  And a number of the worst movies of our generation, like Rhinestone, and Baby Geniuses 2: Superbabies.  Not exactly a Capra-esque resume that Clark built up.  But at least they don't portray it like all of his movies were solid gold, as they do highlight the various Razzie Awards that he was up for.  He also won several Canadian film awards for some of the movies in his earlier career.  By far the reason to watch this movie is the insight into A Christmas Story, but that is a bit too few and far between as they spend 5 minutes talking about some movie called Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things.  Didn't see it, don't want to.  But Clark comes off as just a guy who liked to work and make his sets fun, and just sort of lucked into the classic that was A Christmas Story, so at least they didn't sentimentalize it too much.

The official start of the almost inevitable 3D backlash has started on this thread!

As some will have read I'm throwing my toys out of the pram regarding 3D too. I had the most appalling f***ing headache for the rest of Sunday and I know it was those effing glasses... which do NOT suit being worn over regular specs at all, especially if there is any transitory light source outside of the screen. The bright whites on the screen become too white and too piercing and the dark scenes become too dark and so you have to focus more. Bleah!

3D television? Fuck off mate!!

*snort* I have been very careful with what 3D movies I see for that reason. I saw Up in 3D (which was awesome) but the preview for Alice in wonderland in 3D made me want to claw my eyes out, it just hurt so much... and don't get me started on Avatar.  >:(

I'm in the "bleh 3D" group as well. It's cool for sure, but it's not worth the upcharge. $12.50 isn't enough money for a film? Now you want $16 or $18? Forget it - I'll see the film in 2D thank you very much.

I've never had a headache or any problem with the 3D, though. I just feel that the experience isn't THAT much more. I saw Resident Evil 4, which was film entirely in 3D essentially for the purpose of having a 3D film, and the dumb 3D tricks they did just so they could do them bored me. "Up" in the 3D and "How To Train Your Dragon" in 3D and even "Avatar" were all pretty cool, but I still feel like I could have enjoyed them just as thoroughly without the third dimension.

Boooo to 3D.

So far, we've seen Avatar, Up and Tron in 3D.  Avatar and Tron were excellent for the medium.  Up was so so.  I think it's the same as anything else...buyer beware.  Do your research.  I don't see the point in griping about my bad experiences but I would definitely complain by not spending any money on it.
