I'm gonna go ahead and say that if Saints win today, they'll get auto-promoted.

Jinxed it.  Coming down to the last day.

How is it jinxed.  I said they'd get auto-promoted and they will.

They might.  Looks a lot less likely right now than it did 2 weeks ago.

I always knew it was going to be close.  It just didn't break the way I thought it would.  I didn't see Reading playing this well.  West Ham went through that weird spell where they kept drawing but I knew they were going to be tough.

You can look at it like Saints were way up and then choked it.  Or you can look at it like Saints got lucky and then that luck balanced out.  They stole one at Leeds and got the calls against Millwall.  They have not really played badly except against Reading.  Middlesborough was a shitty ref and a great free kick but was always going to be a tough match.  Portsmouth drew on two incredible goals; that was kind of flukey.

I think the best realistic position I would have put Saints in is where they are now with a game they should win against Coventry to clinch.  This is by far the easiest game they have had in their last dozen.  Home game with huge support against a bad team they have beaten three times and is even worse now that they sold their good striker and has nothing to play for and has some serious injury problems as well.

Not saying that the Saints couldn't lose it.  But if they do, THIS will be the choke.  It won't be the games in the run-in they regret (except Reading), it'll be this one.  Winning earlier would have been a bonus, and it's a shame that they almost got it but in the end, they still got what they needed to done.

Dear ZK & Dan - There were times when I have felt a little guilty for suggesting - all those years/seasons ago - that you may want to follow Southampton when you were looking for a team to support.

This season however, I have felt proud and privileged to have done so.

Whatever the outcome of today's match it has been an exciting time to be a Saints fan - certainly the best I can remember in several decades - and I hope both of you finally get the karma you deserve for hanging in there during the grim Poortvliet times and more.

C'Mon You Saints!!!

Nice one! You lot must be over the moon!

Better dust of Monkou and Benali for next season, add a bit of bite to the back four :P

Great to see the Saints back up there. Let's just hope they swap places with Blackburn.

Yeah, those cheating fuckers. Never liked Pedersen, with those dead eyes.

Heh.  I have always randomly liked Blackburn and Morten Gamst Pederson.  Would rather see QPR go down, who I randomly dislike.  I guess it really doesn't matter too much to me.

Gareth Bale, Theo Walcott, Andrew Surman-- it's time to come home.
