WTM is doing a FREE set at 7 pm this Saturday at Shake It in celebration of Record Store Day.

The guy at Shake It told me they expect a mob scene. You are fore-warned!  :o

I will not be going . . . there will be a mob scene . . . especially since we were not listed on their cd release tour dates.

I went (obviously...) and there was a mob scene, but BUT of all the Shake It in-store performances I've seen over the years, this has to rank as one of the very best, and yes one of the most crowded and definitely one of the loudest ever. The band played a full on plugged-in 1 hour set, just like on their regular concerts. Tremendoulsy enjoyable. I was way upfront (as the pic shows). Incidentally, WTM's guitarist shown in the pic is Eli, whose dad is a partner of mine at the law firm...

We stepped out for dinner between Bad Veins and Walk The Moon (planned on going to Melt, but apparently everyone else had the same idea... sigh). We got back 20 minutes early for WTM's set expecting to get near the front. Hah! Still, sounded decent and wasn't too loud where we were. I appreciated the full band playing and the longer setlist. I couldn't believe the line outside and down the block when I left Shake-It. I guess these were people who showed up too late and Shake-It was at capacity...? They were sticking around to get autographs, I think.

Bought a used T-Bone Walker vinyl and the Bad Veins CD, but I was too late for any Record Store Day releases I was interested in.

hmmm, how did I miss that show?

That aside, I picked up the new WTM album (their debut on RCA) the other day at Shake It. It isn't as good as their self-released "i want! i want!" CD from late 2010, but that's just me. The RCA release rehashes 6 songs from that album and adds 5 new songs. But nothing on any CD can compare to the live show.

When I saw WTM at Taste of Cincinnati last May I also had the sense of being very out of place, and I'm only 24. Haha. I don't think it will be quite the same with their expanded fanbase, but I would still expect the show to skew pretty young. Anyway, got the new album. I agree with Euro, the re-recorded songs generally aren't an improvement. The new songs are nice though, even though I already knew most of them... they've been playing Shiver and Tightrope for a year now.

Agreed on all accounts (and I'm not 24, LOL)

That aside, the initial buzz around WTM seems to have subsided, I think. It just took too long to get this album out. It'll be interesting to see where the new album lands on the Billboard 200 when it comes out next Wednesday.

Locally I think you're right, but nationally they pulled the first album and toured non-stop. People got a taste of them in the spring. Summer they release the new album and non-stop touring in the fall should pay off.

I did notice that the album got mostly positive reviews in both Entertainment Weekly (rated "B") and AllMusic.com (4 stars).
