Afghan Whigs tour dates
« on: December 07, 2011, 12:04:37 PM »

I never thought I'd start a thread on this topic....

Afghan Whigs reuniting after 13 years

Quote
The Whigs will also headline the I'll Be Your Mirror USA 2012 show on Sept. 22 in Asbury Park, N.J. Tickets will go on sale in early January.

Can more tour dates be far behind?

The money must have been too great for them to turn down.

They could definitely sell out 1000+ capacity venues today.  Wait and see...

I'll be interested to see what a tour pulls for sure.

I love the Whigs, but I haven't gotten into much of Dulli's post-AW work, and I've heard some pretty douchey live experiences of his over the years, which is about what I would have expected.  Not sure if I'd be into catching a reunion show or not.  I did see him as The Gutter Twins (the Mark Lanegan duo project) at Lollapalooza a few years ago and it was better than I had anticipated and without the pretentious Dulli smugness.

That also just made me realize that I haven't listened to Saturnalia in three years.  Hope I remember to cue it up for tomorrow morning's commute.

Greg has had a bunch of douchey live moments, but when we saw him at 20th Century he wasn't drinking or trying extra hard to be a badass. He put 100% into the show and it gave me goosebumps at times. At the Southgate House show most recently he did it (or didn't do it) again and came down to talk to people after the show. Maybe he hit the "I'm too old for that crap" wall.

Or at SGH right before closing if the announcement had came a little sooner.

With our luck we'll get Bogart's and it'll result in the surly Greg.

bogarts would be the only logical choice. how many new year's eve shows did they do there? not to mention it's the only place left.

Wasn't Dulli's solo show a year or so ago at the 20th Century?  I guess that or the Madison could be an option, but yeah, that's quite a depressing thought that after a Mayday/MOTR the jump would have to be Bogart's at this point.

good question. i went to only one, maybe in 1989 when he was still a longhair.
BUT, what i'm implying would be a secret show.....like at the height of their stardom they played top cats under the moniker gato negro (or something like that). of course word would get out and it would be packed but i could totally see them trying that again for their hometown friends at MOTR or NST.

now that would be a great idea and than 20th Century would make sense. Tell everybody it's a wedding reception.
