Fox do it again.

"Alcatraz" has been cancelled. If these companies have no faith themselves in their shows why should we ever even start watching them?

Alcatraz suffered from the same problems as Lost... except it didn't have the compelling concept to go with it.  Rather than finding the "mystery" interesting it just felt like work to me.  I don't think any show is ever going to get away with not being more upfront about the mythology of the show.

I enjoyed the series enough to watch another season; or at least watch the first couple of eps to see where it was going. Fox is so stupid. That is all.

I've almost reached a point where it feels useless to watch any 'new series' until such time as it a certain proven longevity and is available either as a full (set of) season(s) on Netflix or on DVD.

Surely there's going to be a tipping point where many viewers will start to do the same, denying Fox (and any of the other nets) of potential eyeballs and ad revenue?

Yeah, dunno. I mean, if the execs at Fox and NBC consistently reiterate that they do not count DVR number counts as true numbers of viewers and/or use those numbers against the show (due to the timeshifting and when the program is watched, they view that negatively if say, I watched Fringe three days after airing because I was BUSY not because I am not INTERESTED). Get with the program dudes. I mean, I do not have time to watch shows live, sometimes because I am busy and sometimes because the show is on past my bedtime. And unless it is on cable, I am NOT going to sit through inane adverts. Make them relevant and interesting and I wouldn't complain as much but they are so stupid. Plus FF means I can watch two shows in a viewing session vs just one or one and a half.

Who says they don't count time-shifted views?  Why bother airing anything then?  Or present anything on demand?  Surely that's not correct.

I pretty much gave up on it after Arrested Development.  Since then I think the only show I've ever really invested my time into was Archer... oh and there was My Name Is Earl.  I watch certain shows when I catch them in reruns/syndication, like 30 Rock and It's Always Sunny.  I think after not being able to get into The Office was it for me.  I never watched a minute of Lost (it looked kind of stupid to me).  Most dramas advertised on tv seem either too ridiculous or lame or both and the ones that don't I really don't care enough to seek out.  We usually end up watching shows like American Pickers, Pawn Stars, and Mythbusters more than anything else.

Strangely, I'm kind of intrigued by Revolution, the new JJ Abrons show. Jon Favreau is directing it, and Gus from Breaking Bad is in it.

The premise is that all the tech in the world stops working, and there is no way to bring it back. The series picks up 15 years after the energy loss. It sounds a little foolish, but then again, so was Fringe's, and I bought it.

Oh, and the show is going to be filmed where I live. Something to replace One Tree Hill! Favreau has been here a couple of times, so he must like it to some degree. I always look forward to seeing what local places are turned into someplace they totally aren't.

That means it gets added to my DVR without question. I'm really going to try and not add more than 3 shows this fall.

Will this be a new fall show then? I have to watch anything by Abrams at least once. ;) I am soooo happy Person of Interest was picked up again.

Oh, and regarding DVR numbers, they do count. I just believe (and I am probably remembering it wrong) that a lot of execs look at how long it takes for people to watch a show on the DVR and use that figure AGAINST the show. Live numbers matter more (because of the advertising obviously).

Yup, new fall show. It's going to be on NBC, so that's not a great thing.

It's definitely one of those "suspend your belief and knowledge of science" type shows.

So its chances of survival go up by .5% because it won't be on Fox. ;)

Man, I will have to catch up on Person of Interest somehow... I wasn't expecting it to make it.  Maybe we can pick it up next season now that Alcatraz is no more.

So did anyone catch the season finale of Person of Interest? Somehow my TIVO didn't record it or something. I have it set up to catch re-runs and everything so hopefully they will run it again before the season premiere but stupid CBS doesn't stream that show. Of course! They don't even allow paid downloads on Amazon. What kind of business model is that??? I would pay to watch it and they don't have it. :( :( :(

Bummer on a multitude of levels. It was a GREAT episode. I wish we had saved it on our DVR, you and M could have come over to watch it. Hopefully they'll air it before the next season begins.
