It doesn't matter for me in to 2018.  I'm in a liberal district where the Republicans aren't even bothering to mount a challenge.  I mean, there's a candidate, but she has no chance.  It wouldn't make a difference which way I voted, but I don't dislike our Rep. anyway (though I did vote against him last election).

I don't know about 2020.  I refuse to commit to a vote for Warren or Sanders.  But yeah, the reality is I'm not going to have any real alternative but to vote straight Democrat.  It's like 99% likely I'm voting straight Democrats, I just don't want to have to think about it just yet.

I've voted Democrat in pretty much every instance since I've been old enough to vote, so understand where this statement is really coming from....

It's great that you're considering going straight Democrat, but just remember that both parties are extraordinarily dysfunctional most of the time. All I can think of is that while the swing towards Blue is great, they will mess it up eventually too. Ultimately the Dems are just as much at fault for not being able to counter someone as awful as Trump on the same level that the GOP is at fault for supporting him and/or not giving us a better candidate either.

It's a duopoly and they know it and act like it in the worst of ways.

That being said, I am still clearly voting Dem.

I agree, but at this point my foremost thinking is that Trump must be stopped. And the only way right now I see is to have a wave of Dems being elected in the mid-terms. Whatever happens after that, we'll deal with it. I am not a Dem at heart, but my vile for Trump trumps that right now.

I mean the thing is, Sanders has a surprising amount of support from the Trump crowd.

Which is crazy because they are political opposites.  But it bugs me when Bernie Bris are like “If Sanders had won, he could have beaten Trump with his populist message.”  Populism is BS.  I don’t want those supporters.  And that’s how you get co-opted.  You think “Yeah, I can use these fools.  We’ll throw them a bone.”  Sooner or later you realize they’ve been using you.  Also the Antifa/ crazy leftists are happy to Copt any political group as well.

But because of the political system we’re in a bind.  So yeah, vote Dem to stop Trump if you must, but even more importantly make your own view heard.  It might be too late for the GOP.  But if so, try and move Dems.  Go third party in situations where you can afford to throw away a vote.

The recent This American Life episode, "I Thought it Would be Easier", did a good job of portraying what a fucking mess the democratic party is right now.  They're shunning Sanders to their own detriment.

I'm no Sanders fan, I think most of what he wants won't work, or will never fly.  I didn't want him to win because I knew he'd get blocked at every turn and that was the last thing we needed.  Trump gets blocked most of the time, but his occasional wins are scary.  That tax plan is scary and reckless.  Killing the individual mandate will fuck us all.  So, a Sanders win would have been much better in that regard.  But that said, he draws a crowd, he says things that get people excited.  The other dems are disorganized and weak as hell and they're scared of getting tied into Bernie's platform.  They ought to be riding his coattails to get in front of people, but they wont' do it, too scared.

What do you mean, "other dems"?  Bernie Sanders is not a Democrat.  He certainly appeals more to Dems.  But he governs as an "independent".

Sanders's base is young people who I respect, but are probably a little too idealistic.  And then far left and far right freaks along with some "blow up the system" types.

He's sort of the left equivalent of Rand Paul.  There's some fine, but too idealistic Libertarians in his camp.  And then more far right freaks and "blow up the system" types.

The difference is that Sanders actually fought for civil rights and stuff.  I don't like his politics but he's legit in what he believes in.  The far right and "blow up the system" types shouldn't like him, but they do.  That doesn't mean I want to court those votes with Sanders though.

Whereas Rand Paul is pretty much a total fake.  I like his grandstanding on the shutdown.  He voted for $1.5 trillion in debt, now he's making a stand for fiscal responsibility.  Yeah, right.  What really sucks is that I hate that bill, too.  It's a disaster. If there was a legit fiscal conservative holding up that bill I would have been like "Hell yeah."

So Trump allowed the Republican memo with classified info on the Russian investigation to be released, and now has blocked the Democrats' rebuttal memo to be released. Wow, just wow. How much worse can it get? (My inner voice just said: A LOT, just wait.)

I was a little surprised it even made it to Trump, to be honest.  Curious move to let Trump take the fallout.

There’s no way it doesn’t leak any way.

the republicans have beat me down. i can't even pay attention anymore.

imagine if obama had an alleged affair with a porn star? or had sexually harassed/assault allegations against him?

they hypocrisy is amazing:
tons of money spent on benghazi against clinton: russia? in our elections? FAKE NEWS! (i'm not arguing whether that happened or not, i don't know, but the crusade to find out everything about benghazi and a blind eye towards possible russia interference is, what, cognitive dissonance?)

and the assault on the media.

the republicans have won. they discredited hillary beginning 25 years ago. they've made mainstream media reporting questionable. they deflect: see whataboutism. they own all four branches of government, and with SCOTUS, will continue to influence laws in the land for years to come. they've changed the rules when it suits their objectives. and they keep winning elections somehow. they stack the odds in their favor. they claim to be underrepresented but they've won everything. and they've shown they can't govern. admittedly, they're the best at obstructing the dems.

oh, screw it. we're all fucked.

This is a fair point.  He runs as Democrat, but isn't one.  I guess it's really no wonder Dems don't want to associate with him, but damn he sure has a following that they could ostensibly get some leverage out of.  Still though, if they can't get something out of his built in following they need to unite around something that is going to energize voters.  They can't count on Trump fallout only to make gains in the midterms.  Their "Better Deal" thing is hollow as hell.

I don't want Sanders' following, though.

If that's what it takes to win an election, then I don't care if I lose the election.  I mean, I can move a little left to capture part of the audience that falls in the space between establishment Dem and Sanders.  But only because there are enough areas in where it's like "Oh you guys really want this?  Well, I don't feel strongly one way or the other so you can have it."

I'm not compromising to their VALUES, though.  And their values are different than mine in the same way that Trump's are.

I wonder how the incel/neckbeard types vote.  They seem politically to be indistinguishable from Trumpian alpha-male/red pill/MRA types.  Except I can't see them aligning with that group since those are the dudes who beat them up and turned them into gaming fantasy nerds in the first place.  But I also can't seem them voting liberal.

I'm surprised it hasn't already.  I'm sure they are just figuring out how they can make it seem to come out "anonymously" with everyone having the proper butt coverage.

exactly... and will the public at large care when it comes out? the same as when the Republican memo came out... which is to say... nobody will care and it won't affect the political landscape in any way
