That was quite the show last night.

Since it doesn't look like the Enquirer is doing a review (I'm shocked! ::)), those that were there might enjoy this review in the Washington Post from the show in DC a few days before Cincy.

Two thumbs up for the CAC ticket table lady who gave me her ticket and then refused any money for it. So in the good karma spirit I bought CDs from both Zola Jesus and opener Talk Normal.

I will say that even though this show officially was sold out, the concert room in the CAC basement was hardly full. Two-thirds full at best.

true. it wasn't overcrowded. i liked the venue.
i thought the show sounded great and zola was absolutely engaging. she is like a woman possessed. i got a good spot on the side, otherwise i wouldn't have been able to see her at all.....
met them all afterwards. very cool and down to earth group although she is even tinier when you are standing next to her.

talk normal did NOTHING for me. i couldn't tell if they were just kind of being atonal and out of rhythm because they were an art band or what, but i soon realized that even if that was the case they just weren't that good. maybe they sound better recorded but that chick's drumming was all over the place. i wanted to like them and that loop they started with was interesting but it didn't get off the ground except for one song with a lot of "bangs" in it....

I liked Talk Normal a lot, but I go for that damaged sound anyway so I can see why it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea.  With what they were doing, having the rhythm get away from her a bit made me like them more.  Then again, I've grown to appreciate Meg White as a drummer, so what the fuck do I know?

HA!
really, i do want to hear them again, recorded (put that on my to-do list today)......because i'm definitely for the weird and i heard hints of garage rock that hits a sweet spot.... plus, i don't think you should write people off based on one performance. could have been my mood last night, but i was getting hung up on those wandering rhythms.

that drummer had some guns on her. my friend i were watching her back as she played..i told him she's built like she does that for 12 hours every day.

Funny, I was with a group of r-villians were on the other side of the stage enjoying the view from the front.

She's played pretty much the same set list on the tour so far:

1. Swords
2. Avalanche
3. Hikikomori
4. Stridulum
5. Collapse
6. Sea Talk
7. In Your Nature
8. Shivers
9. Seekir
10. Lick the Palm of the Burning Handshake
11. Night
12. Ixode
13. Vessel
Encore:
14. Skin
15. Poor Animal

The last two songs you refer to are from the new album Conatus. I listened to the entire album after getting home and while the album is not bad, the live sound and show is so much better
