Forecastle's line-up really impressed me BTW, with Wilco, Dean Wareham playing G500 (might suck but I'd still watch it) and Atlas Sound.

I wonder how this festival is going to manage the logistics issues that were seen when they did Tall Stacks those last couple of times.  I wouldn't be caught dead down there if they're expecting that kind of turn out for this.

You guys keep referencing that there will be 100 or 100+ bands at the festival ... is that coming from a quote?  Are there really supposed to be 30+ bands a day playing Sawyer Point?  That would be almost Lollapalooza-big.  I don't know if you guys are just exaggerating or what but I wouldn't expect something that big, especially with those fairly low ticket prices.

Cyclone, the below is from an interview last year with the organizer of the festival:

Quote
Donabedian: If someone picked up the Pitchfork festival and dropped it along the Ohio, then I think you might get a sense of Bunbury. There are six stages and just over 100 slots to fill

So if I have my math right: 108 bands playing, as in: 6 stages over 3 days, with 6 bands per stage per day.... 6X3X6=108

with 6 stages they'd have to use yeatman's cove too. and even then i can only think of five places for good stages.

which was the plan all along of course.

From the same interview with the organizer:

Quote
Donabedian: Cincinnati really needs an event like this. Sawyer Point and Yeatman's Cove are beautiful parks that are underutilized.

Thanks for the confirmation ... that just seems really bizarre to me.  I haven't spent a whole lot of time at Saywer Point (especially lately) but it doesn't come off like the type of place that would have the size to support something like that, especially given the inevitable fairly close proximity between the stages.  And as far as booking goes, I take it there will be a lot of local bands booked (just like with MPMF), and maybe even something like a smaller acoustic stage like some festivals throw in.  With already competing with P4K and Forecastle as far as booking goes, it will be interested to see how the rest of it shakes out.  I actively dislike the artists announced thus far and seeing who has been booked at the others, it will be interesting.

"actively dislike"? Seriously? I mean, maybe I don't care a whole lot for Jane's Addicition or Gym Class Heroes, but "actively dislike" seems like a very strong term to me. Let's keep perspective here. This isn't Lady Antebellum or Kate Perry, right?

I still predict that a lot of the 'lesser' names from pitchfork and forecastle will show up here too. It just makes perfect sense from a logistics and scheduling perspective.

And yes, there should be a healthy dose of local bands, which is fine with me.

so i'm looking at the forecastle for picks to come here and not finding a bunch i'd like and personally i could care less about wilco and my morning jacket.

my picks from forecastle:

Sleigh Bells
Charles Bradley & His Extraordinares (seen recently)
Washed Out (seen recently)
Walk the Moon (seen recently)
JEFF the Brotherhood
Mike Doughty (even though i just saw him)

looking at it if bunbury wasn't going on i wouldn't go to forecastle.

No joke, Sleigh Bells, Washed Out and Walk The Moon would be in my tier of "skip at all costs."

But, just like our musical tastes are opposite, I have the opposite stance ... this Forecastle line-up really impresses me and if money wasn't an issue I would definitely probably do it over Bunbury.

Forecastle has 'only' 51 bands in their lineup.... Half of the expected line-up at BunBury...

Looking at the Forecastle line-up, I fully expect quite a few of the "lesser" names to show up on BunBury.

now from Pitchfork i'd take

Feist
Hot Chip
Cloud Nothings (even though they'll be here 3/22)

of course there are more to be announced, but pitchfork seems pretty weak.

i haven't seen anybody in this line-up that i am interested in, but i do hope it is a huge success. last time i was at a sawyer point concert it was at tall stacks (heartless bastards/ wilco), which was pretty good. i like the idea of having shows there a lot, as long as security is good.

I don't know what is with the music snobbery that seems to be lingering among some about the quality of the BunBury line-up. They are not putting on top-40 pop acts. Nor it is Radiohead. It's somewhere in between. Will it blow the mind? Prob not, but so what?

I for one am "all in" for this, for no other reason that I want this to be a success for Cincinnati. If Cincy people on these boards are not attending, who will? Do you want this to be a one-off promising Desdemona event that dies the next year? This festival has got to start somewhere, and this is it. I've seen most of the bands announced so far, and are they my "favorite" acts of all time? No. But I do look forward to, say, watching Weezer rock out on a sweet summer evening on the riverfront.

$93 for 100+ bands over 3 days. How bad can it be?

I'd go for sure if Hot Chip, Washed Out, My Morning Jacket and Wilco were on the line up. :)

I too really want this to be a success but a $100 is a lot of money for bands I am not that excited about. When you have other things you want to spend something like $100 on (like say Radiohead), you might pick and choose how you spend that money. I'll definitely be watching the line up and if I don't do all 3 days, I am hoping that there will at least be one day that has a few bands I'd like to see.

this.
i don't think it's music snobbery if one can't afford it, it's a matter of choices. got to choose your spots....for instance, if they announce that this is the venue where catherine wheel reunites, i'm there in a heartbeat!! i liked exactly one weezer song (say it ain't so). if i had the benjamins to make it rain whereever i went i'd be there just to support it.....

why did they choose the name bunbury? what does that mean? is there something uniquely cincinnati about buns and/or berries?
