The Great Escape 2012
« on: March 03, 2012, 10:45:38 AM »

This is the line-up so far. To be honest, I think it's pretty weak compared with the festival I attended two years ago. I also dislike having to pay extra to see the "headliners" (Maximo Park? - come on.)

Don't know a lot of these bands but for 45 Pounds, how wrong can you go?

Where do you see you have to pay extra for the headliners? And yea, that's the first I've ever heard of that. (Can you imagine at Choachella: pay $300 for the festival, but pay another $40 if you wanna see Radiohead. That would cause an uproar methinks.)

Howler, Porcelain Raft . . . I thought of Hot Panda, but I'm more familiar with Gold Panda. If I had the time and a mere 45 pounds I'd spend all day checking out bands I don't know. Headliners be damned.

You're right, euro, £45 is very reasonable, although it doesn't include accommodation (well, a campsite) like the big field festivals. I think I was massively spoilt in 2010 - the line-up included Surfer Blood, The Sunshine Underground, Blood Red Shoes, The Joy Formidable, Warpaint, Groove Armada, The Cribs, The Ruby Suns, Ellie Goulding, Marina & The Diamonds, Band of Skulls, Wild Beasts, Broken Social Scene, Japandroids, Real Estate, Anna Calvi, Best Coast, Esben & The Witch, Everything Everything, Frankie & The Heartstrings, Goldheart Assembly, The Fiery Furnaces, The Walkmen, etc etc...

Not to mention all the unknown bands I saw who were great. I'm slowly working my way through the myspace pages for this year's bands, and the standard doesn't seem to be as high. Not to say that they're all rubbish - some are pretty good -  just nothing that really stands out.

Friends are really growing on me. And I can't believe Chew Lips are so low down the billing - I'm sure they were much higher two years ago.

Full line-up announced. It looks a lot more solid now, I'm really excited!

Should I see We Are Scientists again? They were pretty damn awesome at Reading 2010.

Let's have a competition to see how many lines of that first poster you have to read before you recognize a band.

I got 4!

Mystery Jets are reasonably well-known over here - I'm guessing they never made an impression in the US, though?

Dry The River was talked about last night on NPR. We Are Scientists are very well known to me. I've seen them 3 times. Alabama Shakes were just at MOTR and mentioned to be a huge hit at SXSW. I've ordered my Grimes album. I have a Ben Kweller toothbrush. Friends has a cool single out. I have my ticket to go see Howler and dying for the new Temper Trap album. I'd have no complaints about the first 4 lines.

Ben Kweller's on line three... who hasn't heard of Ben Kweller?

Not saying I like Ben Kweller... I don't.
