I can stand behind Howler and Milagres for putting on a good show, but I'll have to envy you for seeing Friends and Grimes. I should listen to Ema since Shake It had her album in the new release section for a few months.

Friends and Howler are going to be at Reading as well, later on in the year, but as I'll be volunteering my shifts might not allow me to see them, so that poses another dilemma. I think Friends will be a much better experience in a more intimate venue, though.

I've never seen a band using tumble dryers as a stage before!
A few of the locals here can tell you about Sudsy Malone's. Legendary indie venue. There were many times I'd seen bigger-name acts across the street at Bogart's only to stroll across the street after the show and see much better shows at Sudsy's afterward.

That is an epic name for a launderette, too! How come it's closed now?

Sudsy's was never a cash cow and had to close temporarily a few times. I think the two major reasons for closing is that they changed from alternative (as was the term in the day) to metal and the neighborhood took a huge downturn. Other clubs along that strip have closed down or are a mere shell of their former selves. Of course the music and kids (and some of the same businesses) will always find someplace to go . . . in this case Northside.

I like The Royal Concept.  If it's the band I'm thinking of, they are a fun, poppy-dance act from Sweden.  Like a catchier and better version of Phoenix.

Yeah, I kinda miss the old vibe of club-hopping on Short Vine back about 25+ years ago. Even back then rumors floated that UC wanted the block for redevelopment and paid the local gendarmes to look the other way.

So far I've seen (highlights in bold):

Thursday 10th
Big Wave Riders
We Were Evergreen - Really cute, original, French band. Never heard of them before, loved them.
Farryl Purkiss
Ben Salter
Avalanche City
Friends
Mystery Jets (really meh - only went because there was an enormous queue for Django Django)

Friday 11th
Half Moon Run
Ben Caplan & The Casual Smokers - Awesome live gig - brilliant fun. Hilarious monologues.
Rich Aucoin
Rae Morris
Velvet Engine
Jumping Ships
Odonis Odonis
Mmoths
Chew Lips - Been waiting 2 years to see them, and they didn't disappoint. Tigs is gorgeous. I would totally go homo.
Lianne La Havas - Look out for her in the future. Sensational voice, and the things she did with that guitar... Amazing.

I think Friends will be a much better experience in a more intimate venue
Truer words were never typed. I think there was a camera filming, so if the video goes up online I'll post it here.

I didn't actually want to see Mmoths, but I wanted to make sure I got into the venue for Chew Lips. Some of the queues have been horrendous this year.

Saturday 12th
Inland Sea (only caught the last 3 songs, but they sounded great)
Paula & Karol - Adorable Polish folk-pop. In a word: fun.
Juveniles - Really cool, French synth-rock.
French Films
King Charles - Their frontman looks like the lovechild of Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix and Jack Sparrow.
Amics Del Bosc
Me And The Bees
Aiden Grimshaw
Husky
Jodie Marie
Theme Park
We Are Scientists - Absolutely killed it, as always. Their new stuff sounded pretty good.

Throughout the weekend I saw not one, but two Glockenspiel-cum-accordionist-cum-violinists. The level of talent on display was astounding.

Favourite shows (in order): Ben Caplan, We Are Scientists, Friends, Lianne La Havas

If any of you's get the chance to see Lianne La Havas live, definitely do it. She was incredibly sweet and humble as well as an amazing musician.

For those with access to UK-restricted content (I know some of you proxy iPlayer, etc), Channel 4 have a brief highlight show up on 4oD: link. It's a bit weirdly edited and fails to get across just how loud and lively the whole experience is, but it's not a bad snapshot of an awesome weekend.
