Holy cow! What another outstanding line-up for MusicNow! I have been wanting to see Steve Reich in concert for AGES!

Can't wait to see Glen Hansard on Saturday. I'm going to be in "folk singer heaven" with Glen on Saturday and Josh Ritter on Sunday at the Taft.

I'd love to see Josh Ritter sometime. I really like his music.

I just got back in town from a business trip in Europe, and missed it all... How was the Steven Reich set?

And here it is:

Wow, I can't help but feel a bit underwhelmed. It's completely evolved towards "just another" CSO weekend with some weirder choices of classical music, with one additional evening, this time the Punch Brothers at the Masonic Center.

And what is the Masonic Center Auditorium? Isn't the Taft within the Masonic complex?

It's definitely within the same huge, larger building/complex. I think the Masons own the Taft but I'm not sure.

The Masonic Center would be an interesting place to see a show.  The only events I'm aware of them having recently are Ring Of Honor pro wrestling cards.  Wonder if they've ever used its auditorium for music before--it seems likely they would have.  I guess it's a substitute venue for the festival while Memorial Hall is undergoing renovations.

On edit:  Just looked it up--the Taft Theatre is definitely part of the Masonic Temple Building, and it is owned by Scottish Rite.

I refuse to shut up about Johnny Dowd until the world recognizes his musical genius.  I may lose my voice before that happens but at least I can enjoy the man's music while going mute.

Don't feed trolls by responding to or acknowledging them.

Totally agree.  I hope the Dessners get this CSO stuff out of their system and get back to up and coming acts like they've had in previous years like Grizzly Bear, Perfume Genius, Sharon Van Etten, Glen Hansard, etc. It's much more interesting to see up and coming indie rock acts then a orchestral piece.

Got my CSO 2016-17 subscription renewal papers in the mail a few days ago. (This is the year that the CSO will play at the Taft, due to renovation work at Music Hall.)

Next year's MusicNOW is already announced in the 2016-17 schedule of concerts as taking place on January 13-14, 2017. In other words, the CSO having absorbed MusicNOW is not going away anytime soon.

Not sure if we should setup a new topic called "Homecoming Festival" but from the people that put on MusicNow we have a new festival coming in April.  The National will headline each night.  20 artists in Smale Park.

It seems that this is what was announced/alluded to in early 2017, when it was noted that there was no MusicNOW date on the CSO's 2017-18 schedule.

I personally love the Smale Park. They have the jazz series there during the summer that I go check out regularly, since it's a stone's throw from my office.

So you think they could have a fairly solid stage setup down there?  I guess I'm trying to figure out where there is a lot of room for a stage like Bunbury has.
