TCM- Summer of Stars
« on: August 23, 2012, 04:48:42 PM »

So...yeah.  I know in the past, or at least once, I've posted links and/or schedules for TCM's annual Summer of Stars, when they focus on one star each day of August.
I didn't reallyt his year because we basically cleared everything except Nora's kids shows off the DVR and then proceded to fill it back up with Olympics.

Now that we've cleared the last of the Olympics off the box, I have room for movies again.  Glorious old movies!

And, just in time for today,  Gene Kelly day!  :ninja: (pretend the ninja is swooning)  Today is also, what would have been, his 100th Birthday.  NPR had a really great piece on him this morning.

Tomorrow is Irene Dunn day, so another great day of movies tomorrow.  I'm sure there will be a ninja or two swooning over her too

I recorded THE APARTMENT from Jack Lemmon day yesterday. I'll have to look at the schedule and see what else is coming up soon. YAY!

Did you know about the TCM Cruise!?!?!?!

That is a freaking cool website.

Funny, can you image if these people were stars today?  Would Dan be all hot for Irene Dunne?  I hope so cause she was a million times hotter than freakin' Anne Hathaway, and maybe a trillion times hotter than Kristen Stewart.  Then again it seems like every actress was insanely beautiful back then.

60 years from now are people going to be watching Runaway Bride on TCM and saying, wow, that Julia Roberts was freakin' gorgeous?  Nope, because 60 years from now Runaway Bride will still be a shitty movie.  The old movies just had a timeless quality that modern film makers don't give a fuck about trying to achieve.  Yeah!  Fuckin' A, transforming robots make things go boom!  There's such thing as subtlety anymore.
